I saw that you have knowledge about division.

Now let’s deepen what you know.
c. Pag-uugnay ng Presenting the lesson (The students will analyze the problem)
mga halimbawa
sa bagong aralin
(Presenting Jose and Almar love to share their toys and
examples/
food with their friends and relatives. Jose has
instances of the
new lesson) 36 marbles. He wants to share the marbles
equally with his brother. Almar has 42 marbles
and wants to share these equally with his
friend. How many marbles will Jose’s brother
and Almar’s friend get?

Ask: (The students will answer the question

a. What do Jose and Almar love to do? accordingly)
b. Do you also share your things? Why is
it good to share? Cite instances
wherein you have shared your food or
toys to others.
c. How many marbles does Jose have?
How about Almar?
d. After they share their marbles, how
many marbles will each of them get?

(The teacher will show the illustration of

Jose’s and Almar’s marbles and she will call
someone to count the marbles and they will
group it equally)

Jose’s marbles
18 marbles are there in each group.
Ask:
How many marbles are ther in each group? The brother of Jose will get 18 marbles.
How many marbles will his brother get? The number sentence or quotient is 18.

What is the number sentence or the quotient?

Very good! Now let’s analyze the marbles of

Almar.

21 marbles are there in each group.

The marbles that his friend will get is 21.

How many marbles are there in each group? The number sentence or quotient is 21.
How many marbles will his friend get?

What is the number sentence or the quotient?

Solving the problem using renaming method

(The teacher will call someone to call a student

to solve the problem in Jose’s marble)

Jose’s marbles 36 ÷ 2 = ____

Ask: What will we divide?
Very good! I’ll show you the dividend into a
sum of two numbers where the first number is
a multiple of 10 that can be divided easily by
the divisor.
36 ÷ 2 = (20 + 16) ÷ 2
= (20 ÷ 2) + (16 ÷ 2)
=10 + 8
= 18

Ask: If we divide the 20 in to 2 the answer is 10

How many twos are there in 20? In 16? and if we will half the 16 the answer is 8
The brother of Jose will get 18 marbles.
How many marbles will his brother get?

Awesome! 42 ÷ 2 = ___
Now let’s solve the Almar’s marbles
Ask: What will we divide?

Very good! I’ll show you again the process of

dividend into a sum of two numbers where the
first number is a multiple of 10 that can be
divided easily by the divisor.
42 ÷ 2 = (40 + 2) ÷ 2
= (40 ÷ 2) + (2 ÷ 2)
= 20 + 1 If we half the 40 the answer will be 20 and
= 21 if we will divide 2 in to 2 the answer is 1
How many twos are there in 40? In 2? The friend of Almar will get 21 marbles.

How many marbles will his friend get?

Now, I’ll show you the steps in long division

1. Write the division sentence using

. Example
2. Start from digit with the highest place
value in the dividend. If the digit with
the highest place value in the dividend
is smaller than the divisor, use also the
next digit. Divide the digit/s by the
divisor. Write the partial quotient right
above the digit.

Example:

Ask: How many 2s are there in 3? (The students will listen to their teacher)

3. Multiply the partial quotient and the

divisor and write the answer right
below the digit.

4. Subtract

5. Bring down the next or last digit.

6. Repeat the previous steps (division,

multiplication and subtraction and
bring down) until all the digits in the
dividend are used up.
Let’s try the long division in our example

Joe’s marbles
Ask: What will we divide?
36 ÷ 2 = ____

Almar’s marble
42 ÷ 2 = _____
21
2 42
-4 . Yes, ma’am. Our quotient is the same.
02 The long method is easier than the other
-2 because it is common to use.
0 No, because it Is time consuming.

Ask: Did we get the same answer using the

three solutions? Long method or the renaming method.
Which is easier to use? Why?

Do you think it is easier to use the drawing

method if we are going to divide bigger
number like 192 ÷ 6?
What method should we use if our given is
hundreds?
