Nationwide Earthquake Drill
Our country had been bombarded with number of disasters such as territorial issues, evasions
and the undefeated natural calamities which always left millions of damage properties and sometimes lose
hundreds of lives. And recently we had been alarmed by the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology
(PHIVOLCS) of the upcoming enormous earthquake named ”The Great One” which will possibly greatly
affect some areas of Luzon as predicted.
Because of this, several actions had been already taken by the government to minimize its
possible damages and prepare the Filipinos for this hazardous occurrence. And one of this was the full
implementation of the nationwide conduct of an earthquake drill last September 8, 2022 for all public and
private institutions and establishments.
In line with this our school created a task committee to respond immediately during a
calamity. And early morning last September 8, 2022 the teachers oriented the students for the importance
of the conduct of an earthquake drill as well as the do’s and dont’s during an earthquake. And in each
classroom the advisers assigned Marshall whose task was to direct the flow of the evacuation to avoid
stampede after an earthquake or fire.
Around 10:20 am as the loud buzzing of the bell echoed in the school campus which signifies
the occurrence of an earthquake everyone who heard it ducked from their seats and look for coverings
such as sturdy tables, chairs or anything that can shield them from any possible falling debris.
Unfortunately during the said conduct, the bell wasn’t loud enough for the section Peace which was
situated at the end part of the main building haven’t heard the bell and so they weren’t able to respond
immediately.
Then, after few minutes when the coast was clear everybody cautiously went outside towards
the assigned evacuation center/site wherein their were assigned personnel's who take charge for final
headcount to make sure that nobody was hurt or left behind and attend those who needed health assistance
during the calamity.
Before the students go back to their respective classroom it was first surveyed meticulously by
the assigned site security head who made sure that it was still safe to use and rescue if there were
casualties who were left behind .
Through the said activity everyone was endowed an overview how to save oneself or other lives
during unpredictable disasters. As Petra Nemcova had said “We cannot stop natural calamities but we can
arm ourselves with Knowledge: so many lives wouldn’t have to be lost if there was enough disaster
preparedness.”
