This 3-sentence summary provides the key details about the science lesson plan: The lesson plan describes a 1-hour science class on sound waves, with objectives for students to describe how sound is produced, differentiate mediums from vacuums, compare sound speed through different materials, identify factors affecting sound speed, and calculate sound speed in air. A variety of hands-on activities and questions are outlined to help students explore these concepts and how sound travels through solids, liquids, and gases at different speeds depending on the material's molecular arrangement. The lesson concludes with an assignment for students to explain whether sound can travel in space.

SCIENCE 8

Lesson Plan

Name of the Teacher : ANGELVEB ASIÑERO

Learning Area : Science 8
Quarter : First Quarter
Date of Implementation : September 26, 2023

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 1-hour lesson, the students shall be able to:
1. Describe how sound is produced in different sources of sound;
2. Differentiate medium from a vacuum;
3. Compare the speed of sound through solids, liquids, and gases;
4. Identify the factors that affect the speed of sound on a medium; and
5. Calculate the speed of sound in air.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic : Sound Waves
Strategy : Socratic Method of Questioning and Hands-on Demonstration
Reference : Science in Today’s World: First Edition
: MELCS
Materials : book, laptop, bottles, chairs, chalk and marker
Values Integration: To appreciate and value the importance and uses of sound in
daily life

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Review

B. Engage
1. Activity 1: How Good Is Your Hearing?
a. Blindfold a volunteer.
b. Some of the students will form a circle around the volunteer.
c. The students will take turn making noises using their voices.
d. After each sound, the person with the blindfold should point to where
they think the sound is coming from.

2. Activity 2: Creation of sound

The teacher will ask the student the create sound using available
materials such as books, pens, chairs, plastic bottles, etc.
1. What happens when you create a sound using the materials you
chose?
2. Based on the activity you performed, what is needed for sound to be
produced?

C. Explore
The students will be given different situations where sound is produced.
1. Banging of the table with their ear on the other end
2. A scenario when they went swimming and tapped two stones with
each other
3. Shouting towards a friend farther from them
Then, the students will answer the following questions:
1. What are the different ways that sound travels?
2. What states of matter does the sound travel through?
3. In which medium does the sound travel fastest?
4. What are the differences of the molecule arrangements of solid,
liquids, and gases?
5. How do these arrangements affect the speed of sound?

D. Explain
The following concepts will be explained and discussed.
1. Sound waves
2. Production of sound
3. Medium and vacuum
4. Speed of sound
a. in solids c. in gases
b. in liquids d. in vacuum

E. Elaborate
The concepts will be further explained using the formula in calculating the speed
of sound.
v=f λ

Sample problems will be given for the students to practice.

F. Evaluate
The students will be given a 5-items multiple choice questions.

1. Which among the following medium will sound travel the fastest?
a. gas c. solid
b. liquid d. vacuum
2. Which of the following refers to a space without matter?
a. gas c. solid
b. liquid d. vacuum
3. Sound is produced due to _________ of molecules.
a. circulation c. refraction
b. friction d. vibration
4. Sound is slowest in __________.
a. gas c. solid
b. liquid d. vacuum
5. What type of wave is a sound wave?
a. longitudinal c. mechanical
b. latitudinal d. transverse

IV. ASSIGNMENT
The students will be tasked to answer the given question in their science
notebook.
 Do you think that sound can travel in space? Why or why not?
