Getting ready
One thing that I really like about my job is that I communicate with many
people. I also have a small home office and I hold my online classes there
so it takes me less than a minute to go to my office so no long commute
for me but my husband has a long commute to work and he usually runs
late. You know what the problem is? Getting dressed!
He usually takes longer getting ready than I do! After having breakfast, he
puts all his clothes on the bed and starts looking at them. And that’s the
time he asks me to help him. He’s terrible at color-coordinating and they
have no dress code at work and that’s why he doesn’t know what to wear.
I choose one shirt and a pair of pants that go well together and iron them.
Then I dress my husband. Yeah, just like a child.
He puts his wallet in the back pocket and his phone in his front pocket. On
the way out the door, he finds out that he forgot something. So he goes
back to the bedroom to fetch it and finally he leaves home.
Well it’s time for me to get down to business. I check myself in the mirror,
smile and walk into my office.
One thing that I really like about my job is that I communicate with many
people.
Sorry I’ve got to go.
I don’t have to work.
The space can be used as a home office.
And it takes me less than a minute to go to my office.
How long does it take you to get to work?
It took me ages to get here.
I need a shower. It won’t take long.
Women generally earn less than men.
You should drink less tea.
Take less sugar with your coffee.
So no long commute for me
She commutes from Karaj to Tehran every day.
I have a short / long commute to work.
But my husband has a long commute to work and he usually runs late.
I’m sorry I’m late.
They arrived late.
I’m running late for school / work.
All the trains are running late.
The train is running late / on time.
You know what the problem is
You know what?
You don’t know, do you?
As you know, she’s leaving soon.
Getting dressed
Get dressed = put on your clothes
Get undressed = take off your clothes
Come on! Get dressed, we’re running late.
She went upstairs to get dressed.
It takes her forever to get dressed.
He usually takes longer getting ready than I do.
After having breakfast
Have = eat, drink, smoke
Have breakfast / lunch / dinner
I’ll have the salmon.
I had a cigarette while I was waiting.
I just had a sandwich for lunch.
He puts all his clothes on the bed and starts looking at them.
I bought some new clothes for the trip.
They were dressed in designer clothes.
Maternity / baby clothes
A police officer in civilian clothes.
She’s wearing casual / smart clothes.
She has no clothes sense.
Bring a change of clothes with you.
I’m gonna take a set of clean clothes with me.
I quickly threw on some clothes and ran downstairs.
And that’s the time he asks me to help him.
They asked me to leave.
What can I do to help?
I was only trying to help.
He always helps with the house work.
I’m afraid I can’t help you.
Can you help me with my homework?
He’s terrible at color-coordinating
What terrible news.
I feel terrible = feel ill or unhappy
I’m terrible at math.
It smells terrible in here.
And they have no dress code at work.
The company has a strict dress code.
And that’s why he doesn’t know what to wear
I felt tired, that’s why I left the party so early.
He doesn’t know what to do / wear / cook / …
I choose one shirt and a pair of pants that go well together and iron them.
Pants = trousers
A pair of trousers
Go together = match
Those colors don’t go together.
That shirt goes well with those pants.
I need to iron that dress before wearing it.
My jeans need ironing.
That dress needs to be ironed.
Then I dress my husband.
She dressed the children in their best clothes.
You’re old enough to dress yourself now.
Yeah, just like a child.
She looks just like her mum.
She’s nice, just like me.
He puts his wallet in the back pocket and his phone in his front pocket.
He carried a photo of his children in his wallet.
He pulled a $50 note out of his fat wallet.
My phone’s in my back pocket.
The back pocket on a pair of jeans is the easiest one to pick.
A back / a hip / an inside pocket
On the way out the door, he finds out that he forgot something.
On the way out = as you’re leaving
Find out = understand = realize
I haven’t found out what he’s doing yet.
I don’t want them to find out.
I forgot my wallet.
Don’t forget to get some milk on the way home.
Hey, don’t forget me.
So he goes back to the bedroom to fetch it
Come / go back to work
Come / go back home
Fetch your coat
Fetch a doctor
Could you fetch me my bag?
He ran to fetch help.
And finally he leaves home.
Finally we got home.
Finally you’re ready.
Are you finally gonna tell me why I’m here.
Well it’s time for me to get down to business.
Let’s get down to business.
I cleared my desk of papers and get down to work.
Let’s skip the formalities and get down to business.
I check myself in the mirror.
He looked at himself in the mirror.
She stared at her face in the mirror.
Smile and walk into my office.
He never seems to smile.
she smiled at him and he smiled back.
He’s always smiling. He’s so positive.
