BT08 electrical power & avionic system
Reading & interpret electrical schematic & wiring diagram
1. Interpret simple wiring diagram in WDM
2. Interpret & read electrical schematic & associated wiring
3. Define cable coding
● Combination of letter & number to provide the necessary information to
identify the cable, circuit to which it belong, cable size, and any additional
information necessary to relate it to a circuit diagram/ routing chart.
● Code is either manufacturer’s own specification or follow ATA 100 spec
● ATA 100 spec
○ Consist of 6 position combination of letter & number - printed on the
outer covering of the cable
○ Identification code is printed at interval along the length of the cable/
printed on non metallic sleeves and position along the cable length
○ Basic code system [1| E F| 6| B| 22| NMS V]
■ 1- unit number (used where component have identical circuit)
■ 2- circuit function letter & circuit designation letter (indicate
circuit function & associated system)
■ 3- cable number (to differentiate between cable that dont have
common terminal in same circuit)
■ 4- cable segment letter (identify the segment of the cable
between 2 terminal/connection & differentiate between
segment of the circuit when same cable number is used
throughout)
■ 5- cable size
■ 6- suffix data ( to indicate type of cable & identify its connection
function)
Replace range of avionic LRU & apply associated BITE
(LRU - modular component that can be replaced quickly at an operating location) - LRU
contain micro-circuit & sensitive devices that can be damaged internally by eletrostatic
discharge
1. Precaution, visual check, operational & BITE test
● Only use wrist straps that have ground lead resistance of 250 000 Ohms
minimum to 1.5 MegaOhms maximum. Contact between low resistance wrist
strap & high voltage is a shock hazard and will cause injury to the person
● Dont use staple staple to close conductive bag - damage to bag will expose
sensitive component to ESD
● Dont touch the electrical pins - can cause damage to the internal ESDS
component
● Disconnect system electrical power to LRU before removal
● Visual check pin damage (bent/broken/corrosion) & LRU connection
● BITE test - some LRU comes with build in test in their front face / some LRU
can be tested from cockpit
2. Replacement of LRU(black boxes)
● Make selection of a wrist strap & do wrist strap test
● Disconnect system electrical power to the LRU
● Make selection of conductive bag
● Plug the jack end of the wrist strap to the electrostatic ground jack of the card
file - put the wrist strap on
● Remove LRU from the rack
● Put dust cap on the connector of the LRU / put in ESDS container - label
container
3. Replacement of cockpit instrument
● Open CB & install safety tag
● Make sure hydraulic power is removed from the flight control before move the
control column - depressurised
● Remove display unit from instrument panel
● Release the quarter turn fastener on the handle of display unit
● Pull the handle to approximately 90 degree from the face of the display unit
● Pull display unit out carefully to remove it from the instrument panel
● Put protective cover on the electrical connector
4. Step in removal&installation of rack mounted component (amm 20)
● Pull applicable CB
● Remove connection from E/E box if necessary
● Turn knob on the front holddown extractor counterclockwise to disengage
clutch - then lower front holddown extractor to be clear of the T hook
● Remove box out from tray & put conductive dust cap
● Install in reversed sequence
5. LRU BITE
● LRU will have panel/LCD with push able buttons to initiate BITE
● Refer to AMM for steps/follow instruction on the panel/LCD
Remove/refit power distribution control & protection equipment
1. Precaution of removal electrical equipment
● Disconnect the system electrical power
● Pull applicable CB & install safety tag
● Observe condition
● Remove,loosen any locking mechanism
2. Test for verifying proper operation
● Refer to AMM
● Power ON system
● Operation test
Generator power check/voltage adjustment
1. General guide to checking procedure
2. Voltage output check
● Set the AC meter selector switch on the forward overhead to GEN 1(eng1) /
GEN 2(eng2)
● Momentarily set GEN1 switch to ON
● Make sure applicable GEN OFF BUS light goes OFF
● Make sure that AC meter on P5 show
○ AC volt = 110-120
○ CPS frequency/Hz = 395-405 (cycle per sec = hz)
3. Ac generator phase sequence test
● Close the generator field control relay (GCR)
○ Momentarily set the GEN 1/GEN 2 switch to ON (at P5)
● Start the engine (amm71-00-00)
● Make sure the phase sequence is correct for the generator output voltage
○ Get access to the generator breaker (inside the R/H of nose wheel
well) & Open the generator breaker
○ Connect the phase sequence indicator to terminal A1(phase A),
A2(phase B), A3(phase C) of the generator breaker
○ Make sure the phase sequence is A-B-C. If phase sequence is not
correct, 2 output wire are connected to the incorrect terminal
● Normalized & shutdown engine
● Closed the generator breaker
