Donaldson Torit Preventative Maintenance Schedule for Vibra-Shake, Cabinet, Unimaster, & MIC Dust Collectors
Item Frequency Procedure
Monitor Exhaust of Fan Daily Monitor Exhaust from fan. The exhaust should remain visually clean. If dust is visible from the
to ensure filter fan exhaust, or an excessive amount of dust is building up in the clean air section of the collector
integrity. consult your Installation and Operation Manual for troubleshooting recommendations.
Dust Discharge Drums Daily Initially, monitor the level of dust in the Dust Drawer, dust pail, or 55 gallon drums every day.
Or Dust Drawers The amount of dust will vary depending upon the amount of contaminant generated, and the
frequency of collector pulse cleaning. The level of dust should be charted or graphed to
determine a more accurate PM schedule in accordance with your use. Frequency can be adjusted
to fit your individual requirements. Never allow dust in barrel to rise within 4 to 6 inches of top
of barrel.
Hopper Discharge Weekly Verify proper operation of hopper discharge system. Discharge system must be operational when
System the dust collector and fan are operating to collect dust. Make sure that the hopper discharge
(Rotary Airlocks, openings are airtight. Consult your Installation and Operation Manuals for troubleshooting
Screw Conveyors, etc.) recommendations.
Collector Filter Weekly Visually inspect and record the operating pressure drop across each dust collector. New filters
Pressure Drop may have a pressure drop of less that 1” w.g., however, as filters become seasoned, they will
reach an equilibrium pressure drop and not drop to the levels seen when the filters were new. .
Generally 1 to 6” w.g. is considered normal. An excessively high pressure drop seen after going
through a shake (cleaning) cycle could be an indication of a malfunction in the cleaning
mechanism, excessive airflow, or plugged filters. Consult your Installation and Operation
manual for troubleshooting recommendations. Always use Donaldson superior filters for better
performance and longer life.
HEPA Afterfilter Weekly Visually inspect and record the operating pressure drop across each afterfilter. A slight
Pressure Drop incremental increase in pressure drop is normal (approximately .25” w.g. per month). An
excessively fast pressure drop rise could be an indication of a dust collector filter failure.
Filter Pressure Drop Monthly To ensure correct pressure drop indication, remove one line at a time from the pressure drop
Pneumatic Lines indicating gauge barb fitting. Using a minimum 20 psi compressed air, blow through the line
back towards the dust collector. (Do not use more than 25 psi to blow through clear poly tubing
as damage may occur.)

Verify operation of Every 3 months For manually operated filter cleaning systems, inspect for proper operation making sure that all
Cleaning System. movable parts operate correctly and smoothly without binding. Inspect all bearings, bushings, for
easy operation and proper lubrication. Consult the Installation and Operation Manual for proper
adjustment settings and troubleshooting recommendations.
If the cleaning mechanism is automated, Check timers for proper settings and operation. Check
motors and the cleaning mechanism for proper operation and lubrication. Consult the Installation
and Operation Manual for correct settings and troubleshooting recommendations.
Verify conditions of Every 6 months If filter element pressure drop exceeds 6”w.g. after the unit goes through a shake cycle, verify
Filters proper system airflow according to original design recommendations. Remember that excessive
airflow can increase pressures drop. Change filters if necessary. Always use Donaldson
superior filters for better performance and longer life.
Check fan and motor. Every 6 months Check motor and fan for correct rotation by referencing the rotation sticker located on the motor
mounting plate. Check for smooth operations of fan wheel and motor. Inspect for and tighten
belts, nuts, and bolts as needed. Consult the Installation and Operation Manual for
troubleshooting recommendations as needed.
Adjust exhaust Damper Every 6 months Airflow should be adjusted to match original recommendations. Excessive airflow can shorten
as needed. filter life and cause fan motor failure.
Install filters correctly During filter Consult the Installation and Operation Manual for recommendations to correctly install new
changes. filters. Install new filters correctly and adequately tightened to prevent dust leakage. Improperly
installed filters or inadequately tightened filters can allow dust to pass though the dust collector.
Adjust exhaust Damper Immediately Because the pressure drop or restriction to airflow through the filters will decrease when new
after filter filters are installed, airflow through the collector will increase. Because of this, it is necessary to
changes. adjust the fan damper to restrict the airflow through the collector to the recommended level
immediately after installation of new filters. As the filters age and the pressure drop or
restrictions to air increases, you may need to open the damper to reach design conditions.
