Epicureism: Main Purpose

Epicureanism was a philosophy founded by Epicurus in the 4th century BC that focused on achieving happiness through balancing pleasures and eliminating fears of death and the gods. Epicureans sought to avoid both physical and mental pain by living simply and avoiding excessive luxuries. For Epicurus, happiness resulted from satisfying natural needs and desires while abstaining from unnecessary indulgences that cause pain.
