Type of lesson: communication of new knowledge

Aims of the lesson:

 to introduce vocabulary related to imaginary situations


 to talk about asking and giving advice
 to develop the student’s reading, listening, writing and speaking skills
Objectives: By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to:
 to ask and give advice
 to use personality adjectives in sentences
 to employ the correct verb tense in the conditional sentence (second type)
Vocabulary: personality adjectives;
Function: Talk about personal dreams and ambitions, express personal opinions
Skills: reading, listening and speaking.
Teaching methods: explanation, conversation, exercise.

Resources required: students’ textbooks, blackboard, CD player, CD-s, worksheets


Evaluation of pupils’ learning:
- Initial: Homework check-up
- Continuous: Through activities and error correction
- Final: Through oral and written feed-back and homework
Anticipated problems:
Ss may have problems in expressing their hopes and dreams in English.

Activity 1: T greets the pupils;

T writes the example „If I were you I’d buy a


mountain bike” on the board and checks the

Activity 3 T gives Ss a matching exercise: cut up 7’ T – Ss


sentences, so that Ss have to match the “If
Matching sentences clause” to the result clause. Ss match these Pair work
sentences in pairs. Ss read their answers
aloud.

Activity 4 T hands out worksheets explaining the Ss they 5’ T – Ss


have to put the words in order to obtain
Practicing the second correct conditional clauses. Individual
conditional

Activity 5 T writes on the board „Your hopes, dreams 7’ T – Ss


and ambitions” and checks vocabulary. For a
Speaking few minutes Ss think of their own hopes/
dreams and compare ideas.
Activity 6 T asks Ss to read the text at pages 76, 77. The 10’ T – Ss
text is a dialogue. Ss read it pairs. T explains
Reading and writing the unknown words, if any. Ss have to Ss – Ss
complete a chart regarding Amy and Mel’s
Comprehension Pair work
dreams.

T writes “time capsule” on the board and


explains the idea to the Ss. T also asks Ss

Listening 10’ T – Ss
What would you put in one? T tells Ss they
are going to listen to a radio program in which
Helen and Phil talk about things they would
put in a time capsule. T hands out worksheets
with a chart where Ss must make notes about
the two characters. Ss listen to the CD and T
checks the answers with the whole class.

Activity 8 T assigns homework. Ss have to solve 3’ T – Ss


exercises from the Activity Book page 53.
