1. A balloon changes its shape by blowing air in it. Is the balloon a solid or liquid? Give a reason in support of your
answer.
Ans. The balloon is solid. It changes its shape because it has elasticity and itsvolume changes according to the air
filled in it.
2. Our body has solid, liquid and gas. Explain how.
Ans. Our body has solid- body parts, tissues, muscles and bones. liquid- blood, urine, saliva etc. and gas-air in
the lungs.
3. What will happen if we keep ice cream at the room temperature for half an hour? Why does it happen so?
Ans. If we keep ice cream at room temperature for half an hour, it will melt and change its state from solid to liquid
because of the warm temperature in the room.
III. Experiment: Air occupies space.
Aim Air occupies space.
Materials required Two glasses, newspaper, one bucket, water.
Procedure Take an empty glass. Place a dry piece of newspaper in it. Push the glass
straight downwards in a bucket filled with water as shown in ‘A’. Keep the
glasspushed at the bottom of the bucket for a while. Then keeping the tumbler
in the same position, carefully remove the glass out of the bucket as shown in
figure ‘B’. Check the piece of paper.
Observation The paper remains dry because the glass which appears empty is actually
filledwith air.
Conclusion This proves that air occupies space and therefore has volume.
