I’m glad I forgot my book at home
It was one of the first days at university. For us, lawyers-in-training it was
common to take classes in crowded classrooms, for instance I remember
that almost all my first-year classes were always full of student. Oh…we
we’re so naïve on thinking that all of
us would finish the career. Not
bringing the civil code was their first
mistake...and also my mistake.
That day I had to learn a lesson, by
force…As soon as I realized I was
missing something, my confidence
changed into a vulnerable-state in
which I thought everything would go wrong.
But then, all of a sudden, a fellow student offered me to share his code
with me. At first I feel ashamed for my mistake, so the first thing that came
out of my mouth was a respectful rejection. Everything could’ve ended at
that moment, but he insisted on sharing it. So i had no choice but to
accept it and swallow my pride.
Later on we started chatting, sharing more time together and even
coincide on some classes from time to time. He told me that he was
seeking for friends and that’s why he approached me with good
intentions. I’m hardened to doing thing on my own, but that day things
went differently. Having met him really helped me to accustom to the
university life and Im glad things happened that way. Since then, our
friendship has only grown up and im glad it continues that way, so that’s
why I always say: ‘‘Im glad I forgot my book at home’’.1

GERUNDS - Vocabulary
Fight against your defense mechanism!
Picture this scenario. You have an important exam next Monday and for
some reason your brain can't concentrate at all. His job is to keep your
knowledge in there but it seems that things are not going the way you
want. Your hands are sweaty, your having a headache, your eyes feel
droopy, and every second that passes you can only think about what you
will do once you finish that one exam.
This situation you just imagined illustrates a possible case of anxiety
generated by the pressure of getting a successful grade. At times like that,
your mind becomes cloudy and you cannot think clearly, the only thing
that seems reasonable is to try to think about something else and escape
from that situation that causes you so much distress.
Look at it as a defense mechanism. It makes you want to scape from
situations that disturb you. That's why it's very difficult to fight against it,
because you fight against the desire to feel better. It may seem like the
right thing to do.
In this situation, I think the best advice I can give you is to give yourself
some time to rest, but without going overboard. A couple of minutes
outside, or getting your face wet and reminding yourself why it's important
to do that. Master your body! Say: ‘’I’ve convinced my brain to focus and I
will do everything on my own to pass that test!’’. Motivate yourself from
the bottom of your heart!
But keep in mind that people are different
from each other, so I don't guarantee that
things will turn out well, but at least you’ll
have done your best in order to achieve a
good result. It is the straightforward thing to
do!
I’ll be happy to hear the good news from
you, so don’t keep me waiting~2
