 PROPER HAND WASHING
Good morning I’m_________, I’m going to perform proper hand washing
Gather all the materials that needed
1. Hand soap
2. Tissue or paper towel
3. Hand towel
4. Hand sanitizer

❖ Stand in front of the sink Widen your feet for support

❖ Make sure that your uniform or clothes is not touching by the sink
❖ Check your finger nails and hands assess for any cuts ot wounds
❖ Remove all your jewelries and put it on the safe place
❖ Get the first paper towel then turn on the faucet.
❖ Regulate the water temperature and water flow, the water
temperature should be lukewarm,
❖ Dispose the paper towel , wet your hand one at a time
❖ Make sure your hands are not touching the sink.
❖ Get the soap lather it to your palm
❖ Rinse the soap then drop it in the place
❖ Lather it palm to palm , back of your palm , and in between the
fingers
❖ Get the nail brush, rinse it then start scrubbing your finger nails
❖ Rinse it again
❖ And start cleaning the nails of the opposite hand
❖ Rinse the nail brush after using then drop it in a place.
❖ Rub the fingertips on the opposite palm in circular motion.
❖ Next rub each finger in a rotation motion, then in between finger ,
rub each knuckle together,
❖ Rub the wrist in a rotating motion going down to the fingertips.
❖ Rinse thoroughly
❖ After rinsing get the second paper towel to turn off the faucet then
dispose
 ❖ Get the hand towel and pat dry you hands
❖ Apply hand sanitizer

INFANT FEEDING
Good morning I’m __________ , I’m going to perform Infant feeding and
Infant burping.
❖ First you need to do proper hand hygiene
❖ Wear your PPE’s
❖ Gather all the materials needed :
1. Milk formula
2. Infant feeding bottle with distilled water
3. Infant bib
4. Burping cloth
❖ Check the specification of the milk formula
❖ Check the ratio of the milk formula 1:2 or 2:1 depending on the
prescription of the pediatrician
❖ Prepare the milk , put 2 scoops of milk formula cover the bottle
❖ Shake side ways or roll it to your palm wait for the bubbles to
disappear
❖ Get the infant bib and proceed to the infant
❖ Side rail down
❖ Put the infant bib in the infant chest
❖ Carry the infant into cradle position
❖ Check the temperature of the milk by dropping some on your wrist
❖ Do the routine reflex , start feeding the infant
❖ See to it that the nipple is filled with milk not with air , maintain
the vertical position of the bottle
❖ Avoid shaking the baby while feeding
❖ After consuming 2oz of milk formula , rest for a while , get the
burping cloth , put it on your shoulder
❖ Then put the infant in burping position , support the head and the
lower back of the infant
❖ After burping continue feeding
❖ Put the infant to sleep
❖ And return the infant to the crib
 INFANT BATH

Good morning I’m __________ , and I’m going to perform infant

bathing

❖ First prepare a sturdy table in line with 2 counters

➢ for the 1st counter is undressing and drying of the infant
➢ and for the 2nd counter is dressing
❖ lets gather all the materials that needed:
▪ For infant bathing we will need
1. Infant tub with rubber mat
2. Basin for shampooing
3. Basin for face and body washing
4. Basin for perinial washing
5. Tap water
6. Hot water
7. Cotton buds
8. Cotton balls
9. Tongue depressor with gauze
10. Several towel
11. Tympanic thermometer
12. Infant shampoo
13. Infant soap

▪ For the 1st counter we will need:

1. Receiving blanket
2. Rubber mat
3. Towel
 ▪ For the 2nd counter we will need:
1. Upper and lower garments
2. Mittens
3. Booties
4. Bonnet
5. Clean diaper
6. Clean towel
7. Lotion and powder is optional

❖ Perform proper hand washing

❖ Wear your PPE’s
❖ Regulate the room temperature
❖ Get the infant from the crib ( side rails down) and place the infant
to the 1st counter
❖ Check the diaper if its already soiled( always assume that the
diaper is already soiled )
❖ Check the temperature of the infant using tympanic thermometer
(37 degrees the average)
❖ Return the infant from the crib and prepare infant bathing
❖ Fill the basins with tap water and hot water 2 to 3 inches or
depending on the infant body build
❖ Check the water temperature using your elbow
❖ Get the infant from the crib and place it on the 1st counter
❖ Remove the botties and lower garment and place it in laundry
hamper
❖ Remove the diaper avoid touching the inner part of the diaper and
place it in the trash bin
❖ Start cleaning the perineal area get a cotton ball soak in lukewarm
water then squeeze
❖ Gently clean the perineal area going down to the anus then dispose
❖ Then Get another cotton ball gently clean the perineal area one
again going down to the anus then dispose
❖ Then remove the mittens , upper garments and bonnet
❖ Wrap the infant in receiving blanket
❖ Then carry the infant in football position and cover the ear
❖ Wet the hair of the infant
❖ Get an ample amount of shampoo lather it to your palm then start
shampooing the infants hair pay particular attention to the cradle
cap and fontanels then rinse
❖ Then return the infant to the 1st counter then pat dry
❖ Then start cleaning the face of the infant , get a cotton ball soak in
lukewarm water then squeeze
❖ Start cleaning the eye of the infant from the inner cantus going out
then dispose (repeat on the other side)
❖ Get a cotton ball soak in lukewarm water then squeeze. Then in
circular motion start cleaning the face of the infant from the fore
head , going to the cheek , to the bridge of the nose, to the chin , to
the neck , then back of the ear then dispose (repeat on the other
side)
❖ Then get a cotton buds then start cleaning the nose trill of the
infant
❖ Get another cotton buds then start cleaning the ear of the infant
from the inner canal going out
❖ Get the tongue depressor with gauze gently press the chin of the
infant then star cleaning the tongue to remove the milk curd
❖ Unwrap the infant in receiving blanket
❖ Then get a cotton balls soak in lukewarm water then squeeze get
an ample amount of soap then start soaping the body of the infant
pay particular attention to the creases and folds DO NOT SOAP
THE INFANT HAND
❖ Then get another cotton ball soak in lukewarm water then squeeze
then get an ample amount of soap then start soaping the back of
the infant up to bottom
❖ Then get another cotton ball soak in lukewarm water then squeeze
then gently clean the perineal area once again going down to the
anus
❖ Then carry the infant body to the infant tub , support the infant
head then rinse
❖ Then return the infant to the 1st counter then pat dry
❖ Then place the infant to the 2nd counter
❖ Cover the infant chest using towel
❖ Put on the diaper (avoid touching the inner part of the diaper)
 ❖ Next is mittens ,upper garments , lower garments ,booties lastly is
the bonnet
❖ Then carry the infant back to the crib or let the mother carry the
infant
❖ Do after care

BOTTLE CLEANING
Good morning I’m _____________ and I’m going to perform bottle
cleaning
❖ Perform proper hand washing
❖ Wear PPE’s
❖ Gather all the materials needed
1) 2 basin 1 for soaping and 1 for rinsing
2) Soiled feeding bottles
3) Dishwashing liquid or soap
4) Bottle brush
5) Nipple brush
6) Scouring pad
7) Tongs
8) 2tray with clean cloth
9) Bottle rack
10) And electric bottle sterilizer

❖ First fill the basin with water put an ample amount of soap
❖ Disassemble all the soiled feeding bottles
❖ Discard the left over milk then, put the bottles in the soaping basin.
Together with the tong
❖ Get the scouring pad , then start cleaning the outer part of the
bottles and nipple brush for the bottle neck
❖ Put a water solution inside the bottle, using the bottle brush clean
the inner part of the bottle from the bottom in circular motion
going out
❖ And then using the scouring pad clean the bottle cup the outer part
and the inner part
❖ next the bottle ring using scouring pad clean the outer part and
clean the inner part using nipple brush pay particularly attention to
creases
❖ then the nipple , using the nipple brush clean the outer and the
inner part , then put water solution inside the nipple and using
your small finger squish to remove the milk curd
❖ Then the tong clean it using the scouring pad
❖ Then rinse all thoroughly
❖ After rinsing , place the bottles in upside down position on the tray
to drain the excess water
❖ Prepare the electric bottle sterilizer
❖ Check the specification if it is 110 or 220 volts check also the cord
if there is rat bites
❖ Put small amount of water to the metal plate then place the
sterilizer
❖ Remove the cover
❖ Put the bottle in upside down position
❖ Put the nipples , bottle rings , bottle caps , and tong in the middle
then cover
❖ Plug and turn it on , wait until its done
❖ While waiting , clean the materials that you use
❖ After sterilizing unplug it and turn it off
❖ Let it cool for a while
❖ Then remove the cover and get the tong
❖ Get the bottle and place them at the tray in upright position
❖ Next is the bottle caps , bottle ring and nipples and assemble the
bottle
❖ Then get the distilled water and pour it to the bottle that is good for
24 hours consumption
❖ And place the bottle in the bottle rack
❖ Clean the area and do after care

❖ Check for the vital signs , your vital signs are all normal
❖ Get the bath blanket and place it on the patient body , spread make
a fan fold ,side rails up and go to the other side , side rails down ,
pull the blanket
❖ Ask the patient to hold the bath blanket ,
❖ Kindly hold the blanket for a while , thank you
❖ If the patient can not hold the blanket , tuck the bath blanket
under the shoulder side rails up
❖ Pull the regular blanket and place it at the laundry hamper
❖ Ask the patient to urinate (get the bed pan clean and sanitize it
then place it below the patients perineal area give a towel)

face of the patient

close her eyes and start cleaning the eye of the patient, from the
inner cantus going out. Do it on the other side, and pat dry

 ❖ and start cleaning the face of the patient, in circular motion, from
the forehead going down to the cheeks, to the bridge of the nose, to

in circular motion to facilitate good metabolism, pay attention to

dry.

under the upper extremities

put some soap and start cleaning the upper extremities(use the four
side of the wash cloth ) from the shoulder going down to the wrist
(3sides) wrist going up to the axilla.
❖ Then get the rinse wash cloth squeeze , make a mitten fold,
shoulder going down to the wrist (3 sides) wrist going up to the
axilla.
❖ Get your soaping basin to clean the hands, get the nail brush get an
ample amount of soap and start brushing the hands , pay

washcloth). From anterior thigh going up to the knee, lateral thigh
to the knee, medial thigh to the knee, popliteal to the buttocks.
❖ Then rinse, get your rinsing washcloth, repeat the same steps.
❖ Then get your soaping wash cloth and soap the knee to the ankle,
(3 sides) then popliteal to the Achilles tendon
 ❖ Rinse get your rinsing wash cloth Repeat the same steps
❖ Then get the soaping basin, get the nail brush and start cleaning
the foot. Pay particular to the toenails, in between toenails, and the
sole of the foot. And rinse thoroughly, then pat dry.
Repeat on the other side.

Perineal Washing

❖ Use the 7 form, from the mons pubis going to the inguinal area, to
labia minora, labia majora going down to the anus.
❖ Repeat on the other side.
❖ From mons pubis going down to the urinary meatus, vaginal
opening. going down to the anus,

Cleaning the back of the patient
