Lab 5
Description. In this lab, you will learn the basics of using word processing software, such as
GNU LibreOffice, Google docs, and MS word, to create, edit, and produce text documents.
Task 1 (Writing a formatted word document)
On GNU/Linux, you may have to install LibreOffice. Install it and launch it. If you are using a
Windows machine, then open Microsoft Word. Google docs is also an option. Using one of the
tools, reproduce the provided PDF document. Your output should be a PDF file with the same
content and formatting (☞ don’t make just a copy of the provided document).
Task 2 (Microsoft Word — Interesting Tips & Tricks) Try these:
1. Change the theme to dark mode (Hint: File>>Options>>Office Theme).
2. Turn your word document into interactive web-page (Hint: File>>Transform>>Style).
3. Convert a pdf or text-based photo into text (Hint: File>>Open).
4. Copy and past multiple items on clipboard (Hint: Home>>Clipboard).
5. Use formula to compute values (Hint: Layout>>Formula).
6. Sort list of text, numbers, or dates (Hint: ).
7. Collaborate with others (Hint: File>>Share).
8. Pin document to find it quickly (Hint: File>>Backstage).
9. Rewrite a sentence (Hint: rewrite option on main menu).
10. Built-in translation (Hint: translation option on main menu).
11. Format-painter (Hint: Home>>Format painter).
12. Digital signature (Hint: Insert image signature, adjust brightness and remove background).
13. Dictating and Read aloud (Hint: Review menu).
14. Convert text into table (Hint: Select text, go to Table>>Convert into table).
15. Hyperlink: You can link text to documents (Hint: click on hyperlink).
16. Smart lookup: You can search on for a specific word.
17. Add-ins: You may install adds-ins, e.g., qr4office.
18. Embed spreadsheet (Hint: Insert>>Object>>MS Spreadsheet).
19. Shrink to one page (Hint: More commands...shrink to one page).
20. Macros: Record a set of instructions and automate them (Hint: View>>Macros).
