VI. Concept Notes:
Entering Text
When the user starts a blank
PowerPoint presentation, an empty
slide appears in Normal view. The
Title slide has two text placeholders.
The top placeholder holder on the title
slide is the title placeholder, labeled

“Click to add title”. The bottom text placeholder is the subtitle placeholder labeled
“Click to add subtitle”.
To enter text in a placeholder,
click the placeholder and type the
text. After the text is entered on a
placeholder, the placeholder
becomes a text object. An object is
any item on a slide that can be
modified.
When typing text in the placeholder, PowerPoint automatically resizes the text to fit
the placeholder, this feature is called AutoFit. Clicking the AutoFit dropdown arrow
will show options for adjusting the text in the placeholder.
Adding Text Using Textbox
Another placeholder may be added to
the current slide by inserting a text
box.
1. Go to Insert button
2. Click Text Box. Draw a box on the slide
3. Type in the text.
Formatting Text
Formatting Text may be done using the Home Tab.
1. Select the text first.

Formatting Paragraph Commands

Working with Bulleted and Numbered Lists
Users can add bulleted and numbered lists in PowerPoint, they can also
customize the style, color, and size of the bullets or numbers, change the number
that they want to start from, increase or decrease indents, and increase or decrease
the spacing between a bullet or number and text.
PowerPoint does not support multilevel lists, but the user can add indented
lists within lists.
Bullets Numbers
To Insert a Bulleted or Numbered List:
1. Click in the text box or placeholder where to add bulleted or numbered text.
2. On the Home Tab, in the Paragraph group, click the Bullets icon. To insert
a numbered list, click the numbering icon beside the Bullets icon.
To Change the Look of a Bullet or Number:
1. Select the text listed in bullets or numbers that needs to be changed.
2. On the Home tab, click the dropdown arrow next to the Bullets or Number
button.
3. Select from the list of available bullets or numbers.
To Use a Picture as a Bullet:
1. Go to the Home tab. Click on the Bullets dropdown arrow and choose Bullets
and Numbering.
2. In the Bulleted tab click the Picture button.
3. The Insert Picture window will appear. Select to find a picture icon to be used,
either from saved files, through Bing or One Drive.

To Add a Character from the symbol List:
1. Go to the Home Tab
2. Click on the Bullets dropdown arrow and
choose Bullets and Numbering.
3. Bullets and Numbering dialog appears.
Click Customize.
4. Select a symbol then click OK.
To Remove the Bullets or Numbers:
1. On the Home tab click the Bullets or
Numbering icon and choose None from the
dropdown menu
