Ge 1 Assignment 2

This document contains a student's responses to activities about understanding the self. The student provided pictures and descriptions of themselves from elementary school, high school, and currently in college. They characterized their past and present selves. The student then answered questions about their self-concept. They found it easiest to describe how they characterize themselves and what makes them unique. They found it most difficult to answer what will happen to their self after death and if one can truly know themselves fully. The student is still learning about their identity and aims to better understand their purpose.

now that you are in college. Below the picture, list down your salient characteristics that
you remember.

My Elementary Self

 Pureness
 Eager to understand new
things
 Contentment

My High School Self

 Developing a community
consciousness.
 Striving for excellence
 Slowly adapt changes

My College Self

 Developing confidence
 Risk taker
 Takes new normal normally
Activity 2. Do you truly know yourself?
Answer the following questions about your “self” as fully and precisely as you can.

1. How would you characterize your “self”?

I would portray myself as a simple person who lives simply in this world. Always
have a good outlook in life. Always gives hope to others who worry about anything,
because there is hope whenever there is life. Sometimes, logical when clear-minded,
but when stressed or not using the brain, tends to become emotional. Nevertheless, I try
hard to improve every single day.

2. What makes you stand out from the rest? What makes your “self”?

By being myself and giving my best. By taking myself seriously and being
competent at the things I do, constantly honing and developing my skills in every way
possible because I believe that when you take yourself seriously, so do the others.

3. How is your “self” connected to your body?

To answer it straightforwardly, our self is connected to our body because we

have mind, soul and emotions, that three things is within our body that explains why self
is connected to our body. And our body is the one that portray whatever it wants us to
show and this is how they are connected.

4. What will happen to your “self” after you die?

It seems a lot of people do believe that after death we may be trapped in some
cloud-strewn heaven, or we may face everlasting hellfire. But in relation to medical
perspective and in my own opinion all parts of our body will stop working and we will
have a lifeless body but intellectually speaking, there is a life after death. Even with the
lifeless body, our soul still exists and reincarnation occurs.
5. Can one truly know the “self”? Do you want to know more about the self? Why
or Why not?

No. I don't think anyone does and I would consider "knowing myself" to be a
major failure. Its hard to deeply know ourselves, it resembles in attempting to look into a
light that is so brilliant that anyone who will stare would be blinded. At best, you can
pass the light through a prism and be awed by the colors, but even that doesn't really
qualify as "knowing thyself". Nevertheless, I am striving to know myself deeply to
understand what is really the meaning of my existence.

Activity 3. Analysis. Were you able to answer the questions above with ease? Why?
Which questions did you find easiest to answer? Which ones are difficult? Why?
