Presentation preparation:

ISSUE
The war between Israel and Palestine has been going on for a really long time. It's a big
argument that's been around for ages because of where they live and their history. Both sides
have suffered a lot from violence and sadness. Things are especially tough in Gaza, where
people don't even have basic necessities to survive. They don’t have enough food, medical aid
as well as their education system is completely destroyed.
That is why it is very crucial for the United Nations Security Council to step in and help the
people who have been suffering from this conflict.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The conflict between Israel and Palestine started around the middle of the 20th century. Balfour
declaration played a big part in this in 1917. It was influenced by movements wanting their own
nations in the 1800s and 1900s. This led to Israel being formed in 1948, which caused many
Palestinians to lose their homes and land Israel took control after winning the Six-Day War in
1967... The problem got worse with Israel building homes and communities in the West Bank
and Gaza Strip, where Palestinians live.

WORLD COURT
On January 11 and 12, the International Court of Justice assembled to discuss South Africa's
request for temporary relief. Since October 7, 2023, this was the first time Israel had formally
addressed allegations that it was causing harm to Palestinians. South Africa started legal actions
on December 29, 2023. They said Israel didn't follow the rules of the Convention made in 1948
about stopping and punishing crimes.

NATIONAL ISSUES
This conflict has caused many serious issues to both Israel and Palestine. The education system
in Palestine has been completely destroyed and many of the students are even killed. Habiba
will be further discussing this issue with you
Slide 1:
So, I’ll be continuing with what Alina just mentioned
The conflict has brought multiple issues to Palestine One of which is disrupting the education
system in Palestine.
• Due to lack of schools the classrooms are overcrowded and the schools that exist can’t
be expanded due to absence of money.
• The pay for teachers is quite low and that is why not many individuals seek this job.
• Students at university level also face problems after graduating as there aren’t many job
opportunities and the number of graduates is more. This can be a reason which leads to
unemployment in Palestine.
• Schools are closed for months due to the ongoing violence and most of them are also
damaged or destroyed, and this makes it hard for students to be interested in learning.
All these issue that I just highlighted are issues that directly affect the education system of
Palestine.
Slide 2:
UNESCO has played a part in deterring this conflict as they’ve asked for an end to attacks on
schools. But still, this makes it explicit that schools in Palestine and its students are under
threat.

Next, we’ve assembled these graphs to help u understand the effects of this issue through
firsthand data
This graph talks about how a total of 2,985 children most of whom were students were killed
across 24 countries in three consecutive years which is 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Now if you study the second infographic u will realise that the number of children most of
whom were students that were killed in Palestine in the last three months of 2023 is much more
than the total killed in conflicts around the world in every year since 2019. So, we’re comparing
five years of mass killings with three months of conflicts.

Assalamualaikum everyone! Do u guys know why we’re all gathered here today? So a few
months ago when me and my teammates were deciding on a project to work upon we had
questions in our mind like there has always been so many conflicts going around the world for
centuries? Is it likely that we will ever have a peaceful world. That’s when we decided that we
would work upon the topic “conflict and peace”. Under this topic we decided to explore the
issue of “how entrenched conflicts affect the well-being and the daily lives of people living in
conflict zones?” so we’re going to do that by studying the Palestine-Israel conflict as a case
study.
To explore this topic, we had to draw clear aims to reach our outcome, so our aims are as
follows:

everyone ‫السالم عايكم‬

I hope everyone doing well
Im alizay from grade 11 and my teammates Habiba and Aleena are going to
be presenting for our global perspectives project
Our topic is conflict and peace, and under that topic we have chosen the
issue:
How does entrenched
(rooted) conflict impact the well-being and opportunities of communities,
focusing on the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
Our aims for this project are
1- to promote awareness
2- Support peace-building initiatives through donation
3-And encourage people in our age group to join volunteering
programmes and fundraising events that donate to conflict-affected areas.

Slide 13:
Qatar has been supporting conflicted areas since years and these are the
recent intiatives

Last slide;
Relief efforts is an organisation that raises money for conflict related
incidents
Boycott im sure everyone has heard of boycotting israeli products,
boycotting their products will help make a difference
Raise awareness; Majority of you are using social media and you guys
could use it as a platform to raise awareness other than that you can guide
your own family and friends who still arent aware about the ongoing
conflicts

UNESCO has sought to mitigate educational challenges in conflict zones such as Palestine by advocating for an end to attacks on schools, thereby highlighting the threats faced by students and educational institutions. These efforts represent a broader international attempt to protect educational environments and ensure that children's rights to education are upheld, even amidst ongoing conflict .

The assembly of the International Court of Justice in response to South Africa's request signifies a critical evaluation of Israel's compliance with international human rights conventions, particularly those concerning the prevention and punishment of crimes against humanity. This legal action emphasizes global scrutiny on Israel's conduct in the conflict and could lead to diplomatic and legal repercussions should the court find violations. The expectation is that a ruling could pressure Israel to modify its policies towards Palestine, ultimately contributing to conflict resolution efforts .

The educational project on the Israel-Palestinian conflict uses the concept of "conflict and peace" as a lens to explore how entrenched conflicts affect community well-being and opportunities. The project's outcomes aim to increase awareness about the ramifications of the conflict, support peace-building initiatives through donations, and engage young people in volunteer and fundraising activities to positively impact conflict-affected areas. Through these objectives, the project seeks to foster a generation of informed and active global citizens willing to contribute to peace efforts .

The United Nations Security Council has been called upon to take a more active role in mediating the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with a particular focus on addressing humanitarian issues affecting civilians. This includes ensuring the delivery of essential services and aid such as food, medical assistance, and educational support. As the conflict has led to severe deprivation in Palestinian territories, especially in Gaza, international intervention is seen as critical to alleviate the suffering of affected populations and work towards a peaceful resolution .

The establishment of Israel in 1948 was largely influenced by historical factors such as the Balfour Declaration of 1917, which supported the establishment of a 'national home for the Jewish people' in Palestine. This was further fueled by the Zionist movement in the late 1800s and early 1900s, advocating for a Jewish homeland. These movements disregarded the native Palestinian Arab populace and resulted in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War that caused the displacement of many Palestinians from their homes. This displacement and the subsequent territorial disputes have been central to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine .

Qatar has been active in supporting conflict-affected areas through various initiatives, focusing on relief efforts and economic support. Recent initiatives include financial investment in humanitarian aid and infrastructure development, aimed at improving living conditions and supporting rebuilding efforts in affected regions. These contributions highlight Qatar's role in international efforts to alleviate suffering and promote peace in conflict zones .

The data indicates that the number of child casualties in Palestine during the last three months of 2023 surpassed the annual total of child casualties in conflicts across 24 countries in the previous years of 2020-2022. This stark comparison underscores the extreme intensity and disproportionate impact of the conflict on Palestinian civilians, particularly children, highlighting an urgent need for international attention and intervention to address the humanitarian crisis .

The conflict-induced unemployment among Palestinian graduates results in significant socio-economic challenges, exacerbating poverty and limiting economic growth. With insufficient job opportunities, the oversupply of educated individuals leads to frustration and disillusionment, potentially resulting in increased social unrest. This unemployment also hampers the development of a skilled workforce necessary for economic recovery and resilience in the region, thereby perpetuating cycles of poverty and limiting prospects for long-term peace and stability .

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has severely disrupted the Palestinian education system. Schools are often damaged or destroyed, leading to closures that last for months, while existing classrooms are overcrowded due to a lack of infrastructure expansion capability. Teacher pay is low, discouraging individuals from this profession, and resulting in a poorly resourced education system. University graduates face unemployment due to limited job opportunities, exacerbated by the oversupply of graduates. These factors collectively undermine the educational advancement of Palestinian society, hindering socio-economic development and potentially perpetuating cycles of poverty and conflict .

Social media users can employ strategies such as sharing verified information, engaging in discussions, organizing online campaigns, and promoting educational resources to raise awareness about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. These actions can help shape public perception by providing diverse perspectives and highlighting humanitarian impacts. As awareness increases, it can lead to greater public pressure on policymakers to facilitate diplomatic efforts and humanitarian aid, potentially influencing governmental and international responses to the conflict .
