ELECIT

Before we proceed to our new lesson, what was our past lesson
all about? Is there anyone who wants to answer? (students are raising their hands)

Yes, Andrea In our previous lesson we discussed about the two

types of charges.
Very Good!
Again what are two types of charges?
Yes Marco Positive charge and negative charge
Excellent!

Now class, can you tell me how the objects can be positively
charge?
Yes Audrey By losing its electron ma’am.
Very Good.
How about if the object gain an electron? What will happen to
its charge?
Yes Erika
If the object gains electron from another object it
will become negatively charge.

Very good. It seems that you have learned a lot in our previous
discussion. Do you have any question or clarification on past
lesson?
None ma’am
If none, now let’s proceed to our new lesson.

(Establishing a purpose or motivation)

ENGAGE -5 MINUTES

Now I will show you something.

Do you know what object is this?

Very good! Yes ma’am that is a globe.
What does it represents?
-globe is the visual representation of the earth.
Very good.
Now what is the use of the globe?
Yes Jamaica -the globe helps us to study the whole earth
Excellent. accurately.
Other idea?
Yes Grace -it helps us to locate cities, oceans, rivers, and
other places.
Very Good.
Now what can be seen in the globe? We can see the horizontal lines, vertical lines,
cities, oceans, etc. in the globe.

Class anyone who can point where is the Philippines using this
globe? (students will volunteer to point the Philippines in
the globe)
Very good.
It seem that you already have an idea about our topic for today.
But before we proceed to our discussion who wants to read our
objectives first?
(The student will read the objectives)
Yes Ivan.
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be
able to:
a) Identify the globe and its parts;
b) Demonstrate how Philippines is
located using coordinates system;
and
c) Value the importance of globe in
locating places on Earth through
the use of coordinate system.

Thank you. Please be seated.

Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills

EXPLORE (10MINUTES)
Now I will group you into 4 groups. Row 1 will be the group row
2 will be the group 2, row 3 will be the group 3, and lastly row 4
will be the group 4. Are we clear?
Yes ma’am
We will have a game which is called “label me” using the image
and manila paper provided, each group will label the parts of
the globe. The group who got most of the correct answer and
finished faster will be the winner. Is the mechanics of the game
clear? Are you ready to play?
Yes ma’am
Okay. Now please proceed to your respective groups

(the students will proceed to their respective

Are you ready to play? groups)

Yes ma’am
Okay your timer starts now.

North Pole

Time is up please post your answers on the board. Let’s check

If your answers are correct.

Latitude

Prime Meridian

Equator

South Pole Longitude

Developing mastery leads to assessment
(EXPLAIN – 15 minute)
Now that you already labeled the parts of the globe. Let us
define each part.

-latitude are the lines that extended horizontally

from east to west on a globe.

Very good. Latitude are the horizontal lines that runs from east
to west. It is also called parallel. Why do you thinks so?
-because all the circles formed by it are parallel to
the equator and do not meet to each other.

-lies at the zero degree of the zero degree latitude.

It is also called the “starting point” for the latitude. Equator is

the best known parallel of latitude. It divides the earth into two
equal parts which is the “hemisphere” it comes from the
word “hemi” which means half
and “sphere” which means earth.

What do you think is the -the equator divides the earth into Northern and
relationship of the hemisphere to
southern hemisphere.
the equator?
-northern hemisphere is the northern half of the
world and north to the equator.
-southern hemisphere is the southern half of the
world and south to the equator.

Other than equator we have special types of latitude.

3. Trophic of Capricorn
4. Antarctic circle

Now class based on the red lines on the image what do you
think is the definition of longitude?

Very good. It is also called “meridians”.

Why do you think these are called the meridians?
-longitude are the vertical lines that run from the
north to south of the earth.
Excellent.

One of the special type of longitude is what we called the “prime

meridian” it lies at the zero degree longitude. It is also called
the “starting point for the -because all of these lines are passed through the 2
longitude. poles. And they are not parallel to each other.
They do not form circles but they have the same
length.

Prime meridian divides the

earth into eastern and western
hemisphere.

What is the difference between

east and western hemisphere?

-eastern hemisphere is the eastern half of the

world and west to the prime meridian.
-western hemisphere is the western half of the
world and west to the prime meridian.

Now class
based of the
image can
you define the north and south pole?

North pole- the northernmost point of the world,

which is 90 degrees away from the equator.

Lastly is the degree, what do think is the relation of degree to South pole-the southernmost point of the world,
the location of places in the globe? which is -90 degrees away from the equator.

-latitude and longitude are measured in degree to

determine the coordinates.
Excellent. Great job everyone.
Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living

particular
place. GPS receivers take this information and use
trilateration to calculate the user's exact location.
Class are familiar with GPS (GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM)
-yes ma’am

How to read the coordinates?

When outlining the coordinates of a location, the

line of the latitude is always given first followed by
the line of the longitude.

Three common formats:

1. degree, minutes, and seconds (DMS)
Examples. 41˚24’12.2”N
[Link],decimal, and minutes (DDM)
Example. 41˚24.2028, 210.4418
3. decimal degrees (DD)
Example 41.40338, 2.17403
Now class
for your last activity choose your 5 groupmates.

(the students will do the activity)

Good job every one. Now let see if you learn something today.
What is latitude?
Yes Ivan -latitude are the horizontal lines that run from the
east to west of the earth.
Very good.
How about the longitude?
Mika -Longitude are the vertical lines that run from the
Excellent. north to south of the earth.
Now class what do you think is the importance of globe in
locating the places?
- A globe shows the distribution of land and water
on the surface of the planet earth. It represents
the shape, size, and location of the oceans and
continents. It is a three-dimensional sphere that
acts as a model of the earth.
How it can help on our daily living?
- Knowing the spherical coordinates of a location
is useful for people when hiking, diving, or
surveying an environment.
Very good class. Now do you have any question or clarifications
on our discussion today?
-none ma’am
Okay. If none please keep all your notes, we will have a short
quiz.
