WITH INCLUSIVE FOR PERSONS WITH BIPOLAR AFFECTIVE DISORDER
Excerpt 1:
Number of cases in Mental Health Disorders are slowly inflating. Despite the growth in the
statistics, it is the most understated burden in the Philippines. There is insufficient efforts in
improving the Mental Health state, it is also lacking in mental health facilities and even
professionals (Apellido et al,, 2020).

Excerpt 2:
The data suggest that therapists may benefit from prioritizing treatment approaches. They may
concentrate on cognitive-behavioral therapy and family psychoeducation for people with BD in
order to enhance self-debilitating cognitive processes and address family problems (Bertulfo et
al,, 2020).

Excerpt 3:
Forty-four of the participants have a diagnosis of at least one psychiatric disorder (10.50%). Of
these, the most common psychiatric disorders were major depressive disorder (3.58%) followed
by any psychotic disorder (1.91%) and generalized anxiety disorder (1.91%). Among the
population, 3.10% have suicidal behavior. Psychiatric disorders are more common among
women and people with low incomes. Among those with psychiatric disorders, mental health
service utilization is low with only 4.55-6.82%.
Conclusion. This study reports for the first time the prevalence of psychiatric condition in a
barangay in the City of Balanga, Bataan. Though the prevalence rate (10.50%) is low compared
to other community data, the findings emphasize the need for strategies to promote mental
disorder diagnosis and treatment. This study will influence and guide contextualized community
mental health services and policies. (Gapus et al,, 2024)

Excerpt 4:
Filipinos globally tend to avoid formal mental health assistance despite experiencing high
distress, preferring help from family and friends. In the Philippines, financial constraints and
service accessibility are key barriers, while overseas Filipinos face immigration status issues,
lack of insurance, language difficulties, discrimination, and cultural assimilation challenges.
Stigma, resilience, and self-reliance hinder seeking help, with formal assistance sought only as
a last resort. Recognizing distress, social support, financial capacity, and positive past
experiences facilitate help-seeking (Brown et al,, 2020).

Excerpt 5:
With the growing global movement for public mental health, the Philippines passed the Mental
Health Act in 2018, with a strategic plan for 2019–23. Despite the Mental Health Act's
acknowledgment of social risk factors for mental health, these are absent in the strategic plan,
which focuses instead on four pillars: mental health promotion, governance, service delivery,
and information and research. Consequently, the current Mental Health Act disproportionately
focuses on building resilience and individual coping, with an overemphasis on clinical mental
health (Arevalo et al,, 2022).
