LANGUAGE PROFIENCY

The official instruction language of the “Conservatoire royal the Liège” is French. However, some
teachers might use another language (English, Dutch or German) for one-to-one courses and courses
taught in small groups like instrument or chamber music.

As Erasmus+ student the attending of the French course is mandatory. The lessons are provided by the
“ULG -Université de Liège” free of charge and receiving 5 ECTS by semester automatically add it to your
Learning Agreement, if you pass the evaluations successfully.

The French lessons are organized by semester:

o from September 2022 to February 2023 ;

o from February to June 2023.

The “ULG- Université de Liège” organize a preparatory training on French insertion during the first weeks
of September and before the academic start of the CrLg. The course has a charge of 100€ and it is not
mandatory but recommended. If you are interested, we encourage you to contact your international
relations department from your home institution to apply for a scholarship on language insertion.
Please, be aware that French is the official language of our region called “Wallonie”. It is very important
to improve your knowledge in order to be properly integrate in the school and in the culture. We
encourage you to prepare your French skills before coming to Liège.
In addition, we remind you that at ESACT there will not exist any lessons in English, and you are expected
to properly integrate yourself on the daily rhythm of the school by speaking fluent French.

HELTH INSURANCE AND VISA

Incoming students may not reside in Belgium – even temporarily – unless they are properly insured
against the costs of medical treatment and can provide their student visa. Students must make sure that
they have adequate health cover and visa. Incoming students who are privately insured in their own
country should bring with them a statement (in English or French) describing their health insurance.

1. Students from countries of the European Union (EU):

• You can obtain a European health insurance card (EHIC) from the relevant health authority in
your home country. With the EHIC, it depends on how students are insured in their home
country, how much for certain treatments, and for how long coverage is provided abroad. If a
medical treatment is not covered through the EHIC and there is no additional insurance that
would pay for the costs, students will have to pay for it themselves. Depending on the treatment
or situation, this could possibly result in high medical bills! In addition, coverage of the deductible
excess is not included. If students do not have dental coverage through their EHIC, they have to
pay for dental treatment themselves. Obviously, the EHIC does not provide coverage for liability,
accidents, legal assistance, repatriation, household effects, and travel.
• Incoming students from one of the 27 countries of the EU and with European Nationality usually
doesn’t need visa.

2. Students originating from non-EU countries:

• You will need confirmation of health insurance in your home country.
• If the health insurance provider decides that your insurance cover is not adequate, you will need
a Belgium health insurance cover.
• Incoming students from non-European countries or with non-European nationality must take
care of their visa and permission to travel and live in Belgium before arrival.

Please, contact your international relations office if you have more questions regarding this matter.

WELCOME TO LIÈGE “la cité ardente”

As the most important touristic city in Wallonia, Liège hides many beauties and treasures awaiting to be
discovered! The characteristic districts, the river Meuse, which transects from South to North, the abrupt
and wooded hills surrounding the city as well as its marked relief, providing a multitude of original
perspectives, give the city an exceptional charm.

The traditional folklore is kept alive by a positive-minded population. A lot of typical pubs and a large
number of restaurants contribute to make Liège an essential part of any trip to Belgium, not to mention
its vigorous cultural and artistic life and a considerable architectural heritage.
YOU MUST KNOW

ACCOMODATION
The “Conservatoire royal de Liège” does not provide accommodation for incoming students and they
should provide for their own maintenance and accommodation. Students are advised to start looking
from as early as June or July, if possible.

However, the International Relations Coordinator might help you to find your accommodation in Liège.
There are many different accommodation options depending of your wishes and budget.
Student Residence:
▪ Avroy Student House Liège
▪ Meuse Campus Liège (possible costs reduction for CrLg students taking the “Twin” room)

We recommend this two as the closest ones to the school but you can find more student residences in
Liège.

The student’s accommodations comprising a room and shared common spaces are called in Belgium as
“Kot”. Here you will find different networks where to find shared apartment, studios or “kot”:
▪ Kot à Liège
▪ [Link]
▪ LIEGE A LOUER - bouche à oreille (fb group)
▪ Erasmusu
▪ Immoweb
▪ Université de Liège - Base de données kots

We recommend this tools in order to find accommodation in Liège but you can find many other options.

Advice! Our outgoing students will leave their accommodation and perhaps they might rent it to you or
even exchange it in case they are going to your home institution as Erasmus+ students. Ask our
international relations coordinator to discover more information about the outgoing students from
Liège.

Another useful way to look for accommodation is advertising. In the CrLg, advertising boards are
available for that purpose or even the student’s fb group. Students who are already accepted as a
student at the CrLg can send an accommodation advertisement to the conservatoire before their arrival
to Liège, to be put on one of the advertisement boards.

You are welcome to contact the secret Facebook group of the CrLg students in order to ask for advice or
even introduce yourself - Conservatoire Royal De Liège (élèves). You can contact our student council as
well ([Link]@[Link])
Please note: in order to avoid unnecessary disappointments, students are advised to take care in
choosing their accommodation and to check the technical state of the accommodation, plus the tenancy
contract, before making a final decision.
Students should also check that it will be possible for them to register their new address with the
municipality, as this is required for all citizens who intend to stay longer than three months in Belgium.

“Erasmus is one of those adventures which can’t be forgotten - we don’t feel the same when we come back.”
