Understanding Yahweh's Calendar

Yahweh’s Calendar: Why Does it Matter?
In the beginning, our Heavenly Father created the heavens and the earth, and He created the concept of "time." At that time He also established the concept of a
"calendar." The first mention of a month is in Genesis chapter 7:
Gen 7:11-12 - In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month-- on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and
the floodgates of the heavens were opened.
12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.
Already we have the concept of a month and a particular day of the month mentioned. For this reason, I don’t believe that this calendar is exclusively a “Jewish”
calendar. Our Heavenly Father established His calendar long before there was ever a Jewish man. In Genesis chapter 7, Abraham wasn't even born yet, let alone
Israel and Judah (from which we get the term “Jew”).
So the calendar that Yahweh established "in the beginning" is His calendar, not some calendar exclusively intended for a particular group of people. The calendar
used by the world today was originally developed by a demon-worshiping emperor of Rome named Julius Caesar, with a minor refinement by Pope Gregory. One
reason Caesar created his calendar was to honor the demons/idols he worshipped, and we structure our lives around this man's demarcation of time. We have
watches, computers and cell phones with Caesar's calendar programmed in it.
So in honor of Yahweh, this calendar was birthed out of a desire for us to get back to the calendar our Heavenly Father originally established. After all, He is the
one who invented the idea of having a calendar to begin with. Yes, it was His idea! Changing things appears to be offensive and arrogant in His eyes:
Dan 7:25 - He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to change times and law.
Suppose the world were to start following Yahweh's calendar. Wouldn’t most of the world see that as an act of homage to Yahweh? It would be a nod to His
authority on the earth. So how does our Heavenly Father see it whenever people ignore His calendar and follow Caesar’s instead?
I do not intend to condemn, but only desire to share why it seems that we ought to at least pay proper attention to His calendar. If possible, it would be good for us
to look for the new moon, and I suggest adjusting our birthdays to line up with when HE says we are another year older rather than Caesar. This can be difficult for
adults, but we can certainly start with our children!
I also wonder how He feels when we call days of the week after various idols. For instance, whenever we say today is “Thor’s day” (“Thursday”) or “Saturn’s day”
(“Saturday”), would that not seem to bother Him at all? He says:
Psalm 118:24 - This is the day Yahweh has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
For this reason, you’ll notice that on this calendar each day of the week is given a number rather than a name. Caesar’s calendar also names many of its months
after idols, such as “January” being named in honor of the Roman idol “Janus,” “March” named in honor of “Mars,” “April” after “Aphrilis,“ and so on. It seems to me
we shouldn’t be honoring idols in any way or mimicking those who do. So, numbers are used for Roman months as well rather than names.
I acknowledge it is tough to do in our modern world, but if we consider what Yahushua did for us, it doesn’t seem that hard at all. He deserves it! He is our King,
not Caesar! He is our authority in heaven and earth, and it is evident from scripture that Yahweh is going to ensure that everyone will soon be following His
calendar rather than Caesar’s:
Isaiah 66:22-23 - "For as the new heavens and the new earth which I will make shall remain before Me," says Yahweh, "So shall your descendants and your name
remain.
23 And it shall come to pass That from one New Moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me," says Yahweh.
Perhaps He will establish the New Moon day as a day of worship so that the world will learn His calendar and therefore pay proper homage to Yahweh as the
author of time and the originator of how one ought to measure it. Just as He created the seven-day week and we observe a day of rest on the 7th day of that week,
He also created the moon as a timekeeper and marker for the months.
Genesis 1:14 - Then Elohim said, "Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and
for days and years;
So I encourage everyone to make good use of this calendar. Teach it to your children, learn to love looking for the new moon each month, and share it with the
world. We might as well get used to it for it is our future!

EliYah Ministries also hosts a yearly Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) gathering in Steelville,
Missouri. This year’s feast dates are listed on this calendar (first page of the 7th-month calendar).
Each year as a group we build a life-size replica of the ancient Tabernacle in the Wilderness and
courtyard. Purely for instructional and educational purposes, we offer a tour that explains the
purpose and spiritual significance of each part of the tabernacle. At the place where the altar
would normally be located, we build a community campfire for the purposes of offering up praises to
our Heavenly Father every night. The inside of the tabernacle is a place for prayer and listening to
the Torah via audio 24/7.
Located on a 270-acre campground with rentable cabins, RVs, tent sites, and RV sites, the feast also
offers Hebrew classes, daily Torah readings, baptism in Yahushua’s name, horseback riding, a
group float trip, a tassel (tzit tzit) tying class, and a shofar-making class where you can sand and drill
your own personal free shofar horn. By Yahweh’s grace, many have described the feast as a life-
changing experience! Visit [Link] to learn more. Replica of the Wilderness Tabernacle, Sukkot 2017

Understanding Yahweh’s Calendar
This calendar is based on the understanding that each new month begins with the sighting of a
visible crescent moon, with the new year being determined by the condition of the barley
harvest in Israel. This year the barley will certainly be ready (“Aviv”) by 3/21/23.
On average the moon orbits the earth every 29.53 days. The picture to the left depicts how the
moon will look at different times during its orbit.
During a full moon, the moon rises at the same time the sun sets. Because the moon and the
sun are at opposite ends of the horizon, the sun shines on the part of the moon facing earth.
When the moon progresses in its orbit, it will eventually reach the point where the sun is
shining on the back of the moon. This is because the moon rises and sets with the sun. The
moon is not visible to us during this time.
As the moon continues to progress in its orbit, the moon will set a little bit later than sunset. It
is during this time that one will see a small sliver of light peeking around one side of the moon
(see graphic on the right).
This reappearance of the moon is what we call “a new moon.” The Hebrew word for “month”
is “chodesh,” which means “to be new” or “renewal.”
I know this seems strange to our culture, but the day will come when all nations will learn
His calendar: “And it shall come to pass that from one New Moon to another, and from
one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me," says Yahweh.” (Isaiah
66:23).
Thus, you have in your hands the calendar of the future!

How to Use this Calendar
When using the visible “new moon” to determine a new month, certain parts of the world will see the new moon before other parts of the world do. This is because not
everyone experiences sunset at the same time. Thus, in Israel the moon may not have progressed far enough along in its orbit for it to be seen, but in the Americas, we may
see the new moon because another 6 to 9 hours have passed allowing the moon to progress further along in its orbit.
Some believe we shoul d determine the new month according to the sighting of the moon in Israel. Others (like me) believe that if the moon is seen locally, but not in Israel,
we should not ignore it and still consider it a new month. This calendar can accommodate both understandings. Also, moon charts have their limitations, and some months
are hard to determine without physically seeing the moon.
For these reasons, each biblical month gives you the option of choosing two possible Roman dates for starting each month. Flip to the one that fits your situation locally or
your personal conviction.
To use the calendar go ahead and flip forward this calendar one page and look for the 1st calendar date of that
month. It will look like the graphic on the left.
The 1st calendar day lines up with the 5th day of the week (commonly called ‘Thursday’), with the large number 1
indicating that it is the 1st day of Yahweh’s calendar. This corresponds to what is commonly called “March 23” (3/23)
on the upper right-hand corner of the calendar day.
You can use and rely on this calendar just like you do a typical modern calendar, but this calendar places more
emphasis on Yahweh’s days of the month rather than the modern Roman/Gregorian dates. Thus, the
Roman/Gregorian dates are smaller and in the upper right, while Yahweh’s dates large and prominent.
If you look at the colored moon chart just above each calendar page, notice it says “Night of 3/22/23.” On the night
of 3/22/23, you can look in the night sky on a clear night and see the new moon. When the new moon is spotted on the “night of 3/22/23,” we consider that night to be the
beginning of a new month. Technically that night is 3/23/23, because Yahweh’s days begin in the evening. Just as people say “Friday night to Saturday night” is the
Sabbath, in this case, “Wednesday evening to Thursday evening” is the new moon day. Remember this for each month. At sunset of 3/22, the day of 3/23 (Nisan 1) begins.
Based on the moon chart on 3/22/23, the entire USA along with much of the western hemisphere is in a darker shade of green, while countries like Poland, India, and
Madagascar are in a lighter shade. If you look at the legend, you’ll see that it means the atmosphere will likely need to be very clear and free of clouds/haze/pollution for one
to see the new moon in Poland, India, and Madagascar. The moon will also be very low on the horizon, so a clear view of the horizon is needed to catch a glimpse of it. On
that night, moonset is within an hour after sunset, so your window of time will also be small if someone would want to see it.
If those in Poland, India, and Madagascar are unable to confirm a sighting, the 1st day of that month will begin on the following night after sundown. They can then flip the
calendar to the next page, and they’ll see the visibility chart for the night of 3/23. On that night it is easily visible all over the world, so they can begin their month at sundown
on the night of the 23rd going into 3/24. Each month offers two possible calendar pages to accommodate varying moon visibility different parts of the world.
To hear about new moon sightings and/or to report a sighting, tune into the New Moon broadcast. See [Link] for broadcast dates.
SOME NOTES:
• The 30TH DAY of some months will be listed on the following month’s calendar whenever there wasn’t enough room to place a 30th day.
• Day counts that bridge across two months may be off by a day or so, depending on whether there was a 30 th day for the given month in your area. For instance, the
flood was 150 days. We cannot know if the month in your area of the world will contain 29 or 30 days, so the flood day counts (e.g.14/150) may be off by a day.
The counting of the Omer (count to Pentecost/Shavuot), however, will be accurate.
Leviticus 23:10-11 - `When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest.
He shall wave the sheaf before Yahweh, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it.
Lev 23:15-16 - `And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths
shall be completed.
16 `Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to Yahweh.

1Ki 6:1 - And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's
reign over Israel, in the month of Ziw, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of Yahweh.
The day that Yahushua last appeared to His disciples (40 days after resurrection) may very well have been the same day of the month that Noah stepped out of
the ark and He heard the voice of Yahweh saying "Be fruitful and multiply" (Genesis 8:17). The waters of the flood had dried, and now it was time to multiply the
seed of Elohim upon the earth. This was the beginning of Yahweh's attempt to establish a seed of righteousness on the earth through Noah. Noah was "perfect
in His generations," but the earth had been corrupted with violence and wickedness.
Likewise Yahushua the Messiah, after having appeared to His disciples for 40 days, entrusted them
to spiritually “be fruitful and multiply” by proclaiming the good news through all the earth.

Zew = “Brightness”

This month marks some key events which all tie in together, particularly around Shavuot (Pentecost). The Torah was given, the decision was made by
Yahweh to allow Israel to have a King, He chose Yerushalayim, which became the dwelling place of His Spirit, and He poured out His Spirit on His
disciples and gave the message of Messiah to all Israel...that we might also be a dwelling place for His Spirit, a new Yerushalayim.
Rev 21:9-11 - Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me saying,
"Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb's wife." And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain and showed me
the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from Elohim.

2Ki 25:1-5 - Now it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his
army came against Jerusalem and encamped against it; and they built a siege wall against it all around.
2 So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.
3 By the ninth day of the fourth month the famine had become so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land.
4 Then the city wall was broken through, and all the men of war fled at night by way of the gate between two walls, which was by the king's garden, even though
the Chaldeans were still encamped all around against the city. And the king went by way of the plain.
5 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king, and they overtook him in the plains of Jericho. All his army was scattered from him.
This month marks a time of great judgment on Yerushalayim, and many people of the land were sent away into exile—to the land of Babylon. For this
reason, we see a fast is mentioned in Zechariah 8:19, which is still observed by many Jewish people to this day.

5 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king, and they overtook him in the plains of Jericho. All his army was scattered from him.
This month marks a time of great judgment on Yerushalayim, and many people of the land were sent away into exile—to the land of Babylon.
For this reason, we see a fast is mentioned in Zechariah 8:19.

4 Then the city wall was broken through, and all the men of war fled at night by way of the gate between two walls, which was by the king's garden, even though the
Chaldeans were still encamped all around against the city. And the king went by way of the plain.
5 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king, and they overtook him in the plains of Jericho. All his army was scattered from him.
This month marks another time of judgment. Aaron died in this month because of the sin at Meribah (Num 20:12,24), and the destruction of the Temple
and the rest of Yerushalayim continued. Ezra the scribe also arrived in Yerushalayim during this month with Yerushalayim’s former destruction during
this time likely to be heavy on his heart. Jeremiah had dealings with a false prophet during this month, 7 years before Yerushalayim’s destruction.

Elul = “Search”
Elul carries the meaning of “search” in Aramaic, and it’s an appropriate description for the biblical events in this month. In preparation for the
upcoming Feast of Trumpets, a feast that commemorates (in advance) the Messiah’s return, events connected to the sixth month have some things to
teach us:
1) Don't live your life as though Yahweh "sees not." (Ezekiel 12:18).
2) Those who cry out against the abominations are spared (Ezekiel 9).
3) Those who are His will have a mark on their forehead (Ezekiel 9, Revelation 7:2-3, 9:3-5, 14:1, 22:1-4).
4) We need to be building the house of Yahweh rather than focusing on our material things (Haggai 1:1-15).
5) Build the walls of your own Jerusalem (Nehemiah 6:15, Psalm 51:18, Rev. 21:9-10) by resisting the enemy’s attacks.
"Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?
Now therefore, thus says Yahweh of hosts: ‘Consider your ways’” Haggai chapter 1

Ethanim = “Enduring”
This month is called "Ethanim" (1Ki 8:2) which means "enduring.” It’s the plural of Hebrew "Eythan" which refers to perpetual strength. This is possibly named
after the streams that would give water in spite of the dry summer months in Israel. Spiritually, those who endure until the Messiah returns will be saved (Mat
24:13). Noah endured his time on the ark (Gen 8). Will we endure to the end as we dwell in Messiah…the ark that spares us from judgment?
Lev 23:24-27 - "Speak to the children of Israel, saying:`In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of
trumpets, a holy convocation …. "Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls,
and offer an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
Lev 23:34-42 - "Speak to the children of Israel, saying:`The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to Yahweh.
35 `On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it….on the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall offer an
offering made by fire to Yahweh. It is a sacred assembly, and you shall do no customary work on it….`You shall dwell in booths for seven days.

Ethanim = “Enduring”
This month is called "Ethanim" which means "enduring' and is the plural of Hebrew "Eythan" which refers to perpetual strength. This is possibly
named after the streams that would give water in spite of the dry summer months in Israel. Spiritually, those who endure until the Messiah returns will
be saved (Mat 24:13). Noah endured his time on the ark (Gen 8). Will we endure to the end as we dwell in Messiah…the ark that spares us from
judgment?
Lev 23:24-27 - "Speak to the children of Israel, saying:`In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing
of trumpets, a holy convocation …. "Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall
afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to Yahweh.
Lev 23:34-42 - "Speak to the children of Israel, saying:`The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to Yahweh.
35 `On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it….on the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall
offer an offering made by fire to Yahweh. It is a sacred assembly, and you shall do no customary work on it….`You shall dwell in booths for seven days.

Bul = “Increase”
This month is called "Bul" in 1Kings 6:38, a time when the House of Yahweh was completely finished in all its details. We are not given a day for this
event nor exact day for the prophecy of Zechariah in Zech 1:1. Thus, they aren’t listed on this calendar. This month has the sad distinction of being
the time when Jeroboam set up an alternative feast day (1Kings 12:25-33), run by an alternative priesthood. The northern tribes of Israel never
recovered from this, as every single one of their kings was wicked. Perhaps this was why Zechariah uttered this prophecy:
Zec 1:1-6 - In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,
2 "Yahweh has been very angry with your fathers.
3 "Therefore say to them,`Thus says Yahweh of hosts: "Return to Me," says Yahweh of hosts, "and I will return to you," says Yahweh of hosts.
4 "Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached, saying,`Thus says Yahweh of hosts: "Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds."'
But they did not hear nor heed Me," says Yahweh.
5 "Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?
6 Yet surely My words and My statutes, Which I commanded My servants the prophets, Did they not overtake your fathers? "So they returned and said:`Just as
Yahweh of hosts determined to do to us, According to our ways and according to our deeds, So He has dealt with us.'"

Nehemiah lamented and fasted during this month (Nehemiah 1), desiring to return and restore his homeland. The day of the month is not given, so it is not
listed on this calendar. Yahweh ultimately heard his prayer.
Ezra and the children of Israel likewise prayed during this month and repented for having taken foreign wives.
We also see in Zechariah and Haggai that Yahweh is attempting to reason with His people, calling them to repentance.
The Feast of Dedication, commonly called “Hanukkah” is also during this month. While the event that is commemorated by this feast is not mentioned
anywhere other than the book of Maccabees, the Messiah was at least present in Jerusalem during this month (John 8), and it’s called the “feast of
dedication.” The date of the rededication of the temple is probably historically accurate. However, there is no story of the oil lasting longer than usual in the
book of Maccabees, thus many are commemorating a treasured historical event, but also an unverified legend along with it.

Teiveith = “Goodness”
This month marks the day when Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, began his siege of Yerushalayim (2Kings 25:1-3, Jeremiah 52:4-6). For this reason, a fast
is mentioned in Zechariah. We also see that the waters finally decreased on the earth to the extent that the tops of the mountains could be seen (Genesis 8:5).
Also, some prophecies were uttered by Ezekiel the prophet in Ezekiel 29 and additional chapters.
2Ki 25:1-3 - Now it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army
came against Jerusalem and encamped against it; and they built a siege wall against it all around.
Zec 8:19 - "Thus says Yahweh of hosts:`The fast of the fourth month, The fast of the fifth, The fast of the seventh, And the fast of the tenth, Shall be joy and gladness and
cheerful feasts For the house of Judah. Therefore love truth and peace.'
Gen 8:5 - And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen.

Moshe also began to speak to Israel during this eleventh month as they were just about to enter the Promised Land. Those words ultimately became
the book of Deuteronomy. Likewise, the word of Yahweh was given to Zechariah the prophet on the 24th day of this month. In the book of Zechariah
we see many awesome promises for those who look forward to the restoration of Israel under the 1,000 year reign of Messiah.
Deuteronomy 1:3-8 - Now it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke to the children of Israel
according to all that Yahweh had given him as commandments to them…Yahweh our Elohim spoke to us in Horeb, saying:`You have dwelt long enough at this
mountain. Turn and take your journey, and go to the mountains of the Amorites, to all the neighboring places in the plain, in the mountains and in the lowland, in
the South and on the seacoast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the River Euphrates. See, I have set the land before you;
go in and possess the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers-- to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob-- to give to them and their descendants after them.' Now it came
to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke to the children of Israel according to all that Yahweh had given
him as commandments to them…”
Zechariah 1:7 - On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh came to

Adar = “Glorious”
A recurring theme in the events of this month seems to be deliverance from Gentile oppression. Esther and the Jewish people were delivered from
their enemies, a deliverance that resulted in the feast of Purim. Jehoiachin was delivered from Nebuchadnezzar’s prison and was allowed to eat at the
King’s table. Considering that the Passover marked the final plague upon Egypt, it is likely that some of the earlier plagues occurred during the 12th or
possibly 13th month of Yahweh’s calendar. The final touches were finally placed on the House of Yahweh in Ezra 6:15, bringing it to full
completion…marking a deliverance from the Exile and full restoration of the temple. Ezekiel 33 also speaks of judgment on Egypt, a gentile nation.
Esther 3:7 - In the first month, which is the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur (that is, the lot), before Haman to determine the
day and the month, until it fell on the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.
Esther 9:18-19 - But the Jews who were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day, as well as on the fourteenth; and on the fifteenth of the month they
rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.
19 Therefore the Jews of the villages who dwelt in the unwalled towns celebrated the fourteenth day of the month of Adar with gladness and feasting, as a holiday,

A 13th month occurs when the 1st month of Yahweh’s year falls during a time when the month following the 12 th month cannot be accurately called “month of
the Aviv.” We get reports from sources in Israel to determine if the barley is at least in a stage advanced enough for parching (roasting soft barley kernels
over a fire to dry them out). The High Priest would need to have harvestable barley for waving before Yahweh on the day of Firstfruits.
Deu 16:1 - "Observe the month of the Aviv (Hebrew “ha’Aviv”), and keep the Passover to Yahweh your Mighty One, for in the month of the Aviv Yahweh your Mighty One
brought you out of Egypt by night.
Lev 23:14 - `You shall eat neither bread nor parched grain nor fresh grain until the same day that you have brought an offering to your Mighty One
