Hi Sarah,

I'm dying to tell you about a new friend of mine. Let me fill you in.

Last week, I came from school completely worn out. I noticed there
is much fuss around, a new family moved in. Anyway, I didn't
bother and when I was about to enter the building, so I banged into
a girl of our age. We looked into each other and burst into a laugh.
Painful but hilarious, isn't it? It goes without saying that we hit off
in no time and became friends. Her name is Jassmine.

I'm sure you'd definitely like her. She's a Chess maniac exactly like
you. Plus, she's a witty person. She cracks jokes that will make you
laugh so hard. And oh! Her voice is so angelic. You play the violin
and she sings – a perfect combination! It's amazing you both share
interests, right?

I've a mind-blowing idea. What if the three of us throw a sleeping

party at my place this weekend? We'll watch a scary film and shovel
down lots of mouthwatering pizza pepperoni first. We'll enjoy our
time to bits. What do you think?

Got to go and tell Jassmine all about the day at my place. Do

reply soon!

Model 6:
Hi Julia,

Hope you're having a great time with your cousins in Jordan. I

thought you'd be interested to hear about what I bought a couple
of days ago.

As you already know, I love to buy electronic devices so I decided

to get a new I phone with the latest features such as a better camera
and great office facilities.

Believe it or not, once I went home, I found out that there was a

tiny crack in the upper part of the screen. You'll never imagine how

furious I was when I saw the crack and I started shouting at all

dishonest people who deceive customers.

Fortunately, when I went back to the shop, the salesman from

whom I bought it was still there. To my surprise, he didn't deny the
incident and instantly gave me a new one.

That is all for now. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Model 7 :
Hi Mona,

I can’t wait to let you know about the fashion show my

colleagues and I organized last week .

As you know, we have got six students diagnosed with

diabetes in our school, so Ms.Nour , our class teacher and
the head of year 10 classes suggested raising money /
funds to Qatar Diabetes Charity by holding a sponsored
event . You can’t imagine that all girls went for a fashion
show. Amazing, isn’t it?

Do you still remember the sports hall behind the

classrooms? Since you left school last month this hall was
turned into a recreational area for a multitude of
activities. The principal gave us permission to use it.
Parents’ invitations were sent and honestly they paid
generously during the show.

What would you do if you were in my shoe? I know that

you are the best one to promote the event. To our
surprise, it was astonishing. Parents as well as guests not
only paid but also suggested holding other events like this.

17
That’s all for now. Looking forward to seeing you next
month during the mid-term break. Bring your coats as it is
cold here in December.

Lots of Love,

Huda.

addition to that , there is no doubt that the food taste and portion s
are not comparable with any place as we enjoyed each bite till the end
of the meal .As regards cleanliness , the whole place is super clean and
well- aerated with ventilation and insect sparks to make the guests
enjoy their time in a fragrant atmosphere .Moreover , the menu has
got its variety with dishes from different cuisines that are appealing to

20- Conclusion:
Opinion or judgement
+ one negative point + feedback+ recommendation How it
could be improved
Example:
All in all, it was a once in a life-time experience, eating at
that fancy restaurant. Therefore, I recommend the hotel for
families for the excellent special offers during peak times.
However, it would be better if they paid more attention to
the seating plan to give more privacy to customers.
1

The Positive Approach:

Restaurant Review
Are you much interested in eating delicious mouthwatering
seafood? If so, put “Red Lobster “on your must go restaurant list for
this week.
By and large, the restaurant is an architectural masterpiece in all
aspects as it is shaped like a ferry in the heart of the corniche in
which gives it a picturesque view. As regards the food, it came after
thirty minutes after ordering it which is really convenient for a
sitdown restaurant. The variety of sea food and the delicious
appetizers made the dishes more enjoyable than expected. The
culinary masterpieces cooked at weekends made the restaurant a
centre of attraction for those who adore sea food dishes. In
addition to the polite, skillful and well – trained waiters, the
arrangement of seats in the banquet hall is really amazing as it can
fit more than150 guests at a time. The well – trained staff including
receptionists, waiters and chefs were all up to standards. For further
elaboration, everyone working there does his / her fair share
skillfully, enthusiastically and honestly. In terms of cleanliness, the
whole area inside and outside the restaurant is super clean.
Ventilation systems are working properly alongside with the flying
insect sparks.
Overall, I really recommend visiting the place especially
families because of the special offers during weekends. However,
the only downside about the restaurant is that opening hours should
start earlier because some customers including me like taking lunch
earlier than others.
2

The Negative Approach

The Sea Shark
Restaurant Review.
Last week, my father took the whole family to one of the
newly – opened restaurants in the heart of the city centre .
When it comes to accessibility, it was really hard to park the
car as parking lots were all occupied, so we had to use the
expensive valet parking service in a private car park. Upon
arrival, we noticed that cleanliness level was not up to
standards. For further elaboration, electric sparks for flies
and mosquitoes were not working, so the whole dining area
was really full of flies. Moreover, ventilation was in its
poorest status and the result was stuffy overcrowded,
airless place.
Inspite of the fact that sea food dishes were delicious
and mouthwatering, the waiting staff were not well trained
as they weren’t used to working in the presence of too many
guests or customers especially at weekends.
All in all, we enjoyed the food but we had to leave as
soon as we were done because of the poor ventilation. Our
experience could have been more enjoyable if more
ventilators and air conditioners were installed. Besides,
well- trained waiters should be recruited to address the
quality of customers who come to dine in a 5-star restaurant
like the “Sea Shark “
3

The Positive Approach

Course Review
If you are keen on learning and mastering English then the
British Council Summer Course is a must go experience for this
coming long vacation.
What really grabbed my attention when I stopped in was the
warm welcome from Mrs. Jane., the head teacher, who guided us
gently to the placement test halls to put each student in his/her right
level. As regards teaching, the teacher used a contemporary
interactive approach to encourage all of us to practice the language
skills enthusiastically. It was an amazing means to learn from each
other. The six – week course was relatively adequate to enable us
improve our sentence structure and use rich vocabulary in writing.
In addition to the various learning resources in the British Council
Library, we were given free of charge extra hours to practise and
enhance our listening skills through watching newly- released films
and plays. What I really liked about the course was the transport
service included in the course price. This saved my parents the
trouble of driving me three times a week from the British Council to
my house.
All in all, the course was really useful as well as informative.
The only thing I really wished to change was the timing of the course
because it usually started early in the morning, a time which I
needed to sleep more.

4
4
An Interesting Course.

Last month, I went to an IELTS Course in the Educational Centre

which is one of the After School Activities Club. It was a twenty
hour- course mainly tailored for students whose levels of English are
above average.
The course was really advantageous in many ways. First of all, it
met all the requirements needed to make it successful including a
brilliantly – qualified teacher Mr. Peter San. Although I took the
course to get a score of 6.5 out 9 for my university, I really benefited
a lot from the group discussions which enriched my vocabulary and
boosted my self- confidence to speak in public. The teacher also
used state of the art methods such as youtube IELTS tests and
interactive websites. It was great to find all learning facilities
available in the centre which made the course more enjoyable what
made the course more useful than expected was that the teacher
used to correct our writings day by day and compared them with the
book model answers.
All in all, the course was a real success because I managed to get
an overall band score of 7.5 which was a leap in my linguistic level.
However, the only downside was the timing of the course which
should have been four hours later instead of taking it directly after
school which was really tiring.

5
5 The Positive Approach.

Documentary Review.

Are you much concerned about our environment and want to find
solutions for overcoming the catastrophic disaster of climate
change? If so, put “Before the Flood “on your must – see
documentary list for this year.
“Before the Flood” stars the Oscar winning actor and
environmentalist, Leonardo Dicaprio , who has spent three asking a
wide variety of people around the world about climate change. The
documentary shows that Dicaprio goes to every corner of the globe
to document the devastating impacts of climate change and to
sensitize people more about the issue by aiding them with scientific
evidences to clarify the seriousness of this danger.
Both the sound effects and the music played in the background of
the captured scenes from cities and villages worldwide are all
functioned properly and brilliantly that they make the audience cry
their eyes out and hope that they are capable of making the world a
better place in the blink of an eye. What makes the document a
success is that Dicaprio interviews such influential figures as
president Obama and tech inventor Elon Musk to ask their opinions
and solutions about how to withstand the catastrophe of climate
change.
Overall, the documentary is spectacular and makes me feel more
optimistic about the future but the only downside about it that it is
only hour and thirty minutes, where it should have been much longer
to interview more eminent figures at more working fields and to
capture scenes from more countries in the world.

A Visit to the Forest
Introduction:
Last week, a trip to the forest in the outskirts of our town was
organized by our school principal with the aim of sensitizing grade 10
students about the negative impacts of pollution and to back up what
we learnt in ecology class about deforestation.

Findings:
Upon our arrival, we were welcomed by the group of environmentalists
and conservationists there at the forest, whose only target was to
save what is left in there. They divided us into two groups, each
accompanied by a school teacher and their environmentalists. First,
we were shown a video about what the industrial factories and
companies are doing nowadays to have caused this pollution to the
forest and how harmful this is to the environment. It was so heart –
breaking to know that they contributed to the widespread of the
natural phenomenon of deforestation and animals’ extinction. We then
had a tour of the polluted forest to see most of the trees cut from their
deep roots due to logging. The place was suffering from an increase in
the concentration of carbon dioxide gas in air and a significant
decrease in the concentration of oxygen that we were hardly
breathing. We then were willing to make even a small contribution to
the improvement of that forest, so we had to plant some of the rare
seeds we got from Brazil.

Conclusion:
Overall, the visit was a great success since I knew many pieces of
interesting and new information about natural environment and their
conservation, but I hope that if this visit is repeated next year, we wore
protective masks, so as to carry out our mission properly.

October 2023 Exam – School Sports Competition – Sample 1

Introduction
Last week, Ms. Jane, head of Physical Education department in EGA
organized a Sports Competition to promote the idea of practicing sports on a
regular basis and draw students’ attention to take up sports as a profession.
37
Findings:
We were divided into 4 teams of eight students each to be able to take part
in all competitions held throughout the day. It was great to see that all
precautions were taken to guarantee a safe and secure day without any
injuries. The moto of the day was “Do sports and become healthy “to sensitize
students about the value of doing sports for both leisure and career purposes.
The highlight of the day was when teachers played against senior students
who won 4-1 in a football final tournament. Students’ communication skills
improved by talking to colleagues from other classes by talking and
exchanging ideas.
Conclusion:
The day was a real success but we needed much more time to practise more
games and have more fun.
October 2023 Exam – School Sports Competition
Sample 2 :

Introduction:
As requested by Ms. Jane, head of the Physical Education department, I
was asked to write a report about the Sports Competition held in our school
last week .After interviewing many students and teachers , they gave out
much positive feedback and only two negatives which the school should work
on.50
Positive aspects:
After asking many of my colleagues, they reported enjoying the day for the
variety of activities done during the day. The motto “Play, win, and earn “was
adopted by the principal to encourage the students to be awarded not only for
winning but also for participating. There was much interaction between
students and teachers who reported that they explored new talents in senior
students. As reported by students, the most enjoyable part was the
organization of the whole day.

Negative aspects:
The only downside reported by both students and teachers was the large
number of participants in all grades because there wasn’t much time to cater
for all the games.
Conclusion :
The day was a real success but we needed much more time to practise more
games and have more fun.

Practice : The School Art Exhibition Day

May/June 2019 v22

Hi Jane,
Sorry for not getting in touch with you last week, but I’ve been busy doing
mock exams. Let me get you updated with my latest news.28
As you know, I like taking part in charitable work, so I suggested raising
money for the “Young Diabetes Trust” by organizing a fashion show to
encourage parents as well as students to donate money to help these young
kids diagnosed with diabetes. I am sure you will love the idea, won’t you? 51
Do you still remember the Qatari traditional costumes shop in Souq
Waqif? If so, we bought 15 dresses to represent the Qatari Culture during the
show to encourage Qatari parents and expatriates to donate generously. This
was MS. Ann’s idea, not mine of course. Believe it or not! We collected 7581
riyals and many parents generously paid .56
Our feelings towards the success of the show were indescribable because we
managed to draw a smile and make contribution to the treatment of these
diabetic kids.
That’s all for now, looking forward to seeing you soon. Get me updated with
your news.
Love,
Sara
