SUMMARY
Here is the setting and main characters for the story Daydream and Drunkenness
of a Young Lady. She was born to a Jewish family in Podolia, which is in Western
Ukraine. Her mother passed away when she was nine years old, and she was raised
in northern Brazil. When she was in her teens, the family relocated to Rio de
Janeiro. "Why did Maria Quitera returns from dinner and feel lost in sadness “, it is
because she still plays by the rules of the superficial, fluctuating from self- righteous
disdain and indignation to humility and shame at going out to dinner without a hat
like that which the slim socialite is wearing. Why is this book interesting? It is
because even though Maria is a drunk, she still tries to be a good mother to her
children and a wife who is like a lady out there.

RECOMMENDATION
Opinions, ideas, and suggestions will be discussed in this section so basically the
book is about three intoxicating tales of three women their secret desires, fears
and madness from a giant of Brazilian literature.
Opinion 1 : My favourite parts of the book is the character, Maria Quiteria she’s a
mother and wife who struggling with her purpose in life. With her children away,
and her husband visiting, she sleeps through his visit without bothering to prepare
his meals or help him in any way. This story keep me on guessing what will
happened to Maria if she continue with her attitude of not care or help her
husband. What will her husband do to her ! The favourite part of the book is also
from the story collection, where Maria goes with her husband to a business dinner
and she drinks wine that can make her drunk that make she didn’t realize her
actions. To be honest this book mixed feelings because in the short story daydream
and drunkenness of a young lady it gives a feeling of anger and despair, in the love
part there is a feeling of romance and the last part of this short story is family ties
which more to sadness . Honestly said it make me keep on turning the pages
especially in the family ties section because the story line is really slow and there
are various sad incidents that don’t suit me. This book didn't work for me because
I expected the characters in this story to be uncomplicated but they turned out to
be so complicated and I hope that the girl named Maria is thankful to have a
husband who is very patient and understands her grief, she didn't care at all and
stayed with her stubborn.

Opinion 2 : Also that, this short story is suitable for age group 15 to 18 years old.
For me, I like this short story because sometimes I think its related to me or others
who in relay just because a few of partner must try to do things that are romantic
and make their partner feel appreciated. But sometimes, I dont think some
individuals is related to them because a few of partner do not tried to do things
that are romantic . I would like to recommend for the readers to read The Hours Of
The Star by Clarice Lispector itself. The Hour of the Star deals with the problems of
the rural Northeast versus the urban Southeast of Brazil, poverty and the dream of
a better life, and, of an uneducated woman's struggle to survive in a sexist society.
This is a novel of about eighty pages but it reads like a big novel, Lispector drew on
personal experiences from her childhood in northeast Brazil as well as her life in
Rio de Janeiro. The book's eight brief chapters were compiled by Lispector and her
friend and assistant, Olga Borelli, from notes Lispector had written on scraps of
paper. The majority of the information in each collection in this book has to do with
contemporary women, therefore if the reader wants to read this short story, I
would advise relating it to current situations and using it as a lesson from the book.
