Some personal insights about me:

The significant educational opportunity that I have taken advantage of is the AVID program. I
have been in AVID since my 7th grade year of middle school. Avid has helped me in so many
ways that I would have never thought possible. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be in it for
my 6th year in a row. I have access to unlimited resources and tremendous support from my
peers and teacher, and that's what I like about the AVID program because we are like a family.
An educational barrier I have faced is my grades during my freshman and sophomore years.
During quarantine, I struggled to keep my grades up and I barely passed my first two years of
high school. But, once I went into Junior year, I decided that I wouldn't let myself fail. So I kept
my grades at A's and B's. I even got a GPA Proficiency award for having a 4.0 at the beginning
of Junior year. Having AVID throughout high school has really helped me overcome lots of
obstacles because of how supporting and understanding my teacher was for me, but also
because when I would miss a lot, I can always count on using my avid period as a place and
time to work on missing work or get help on things I didn't understand. Also having AVID has
helped me a lot on my pathway in high school because of learning about all the different
colleges and universities, but also made me fully realize what I want to do for a career, but also
for what I want for my future.

An academic subject that has inspired me is Math. Not just math from in high school, but just
math in general. Since I was young, math has always been my favorite subject in school. I have
always been good with numbers, which positively impacted my thoughts on what I want to do
with my life after college. After my 6th grade year of elementary, I decided I wanted to be a 6th
grade teacher, just like my 6th grade teacher. She inspired me to want to become one, but math
had a big part in it too. I loved math, especially 6th grade math in particular because it was so
easy to understand and explain, but also because I enjoyed doing it. If I ever decide to change
my path from being a 6th-grade teacher, I know whatever career I decide to pursue, it will
always have something to do with math. I know that by becoming a sixth-grade teacher I will be
passionate about my work and job, which is something that I always hoped for when choosing a
career pathway because I didn't want to pursue something if it wasn't something that I didn't
enjoy. I am glad that I have the opportunity to pursue a career that I will enjoy, but will still be
learning about it along the way. I can't wait for my career in education to start. I think I will be a
great teacher because I'm very passionate about working with kids and math, and can't wait for
what's to come.

In my past few years of high school, I have done lots of volunteer work for my community and
school. The things I have done to make my community a better place are volunteering my time
to help people and places. I helped with the cleanup of Planada after the flood. I cleaned up
trash on the sides of the roads and helped the clothing drive that Merced planned out. I have
volunteered with the City of Merced on multiple occasions, like Halloween and Christmas
events. I even volunteered to be a cabin leader for Atwater Elementary for when they went to
Camp Calvin Crest. I like to help my community because I like the feeling of knowing that I did
what I could to help someone. I have done so many volunteering opportunities to do with kids
because I am very passionate about working with kids. By being a cabin leader it helped me get
one-on-one experience with six sixth-grade girls, And I think it helped me see what it kind of
would be like working in a classroom as a sixth-grade teacher. I feel like a better person when I
volunteer for my community because I really enjoy making people happy and seeing that what
I'm doing is making someone's day better. I know I have over 100 hours of community service
because I really do enjoy helping out and I don't just do community service for the hours but I do
it because I am passionate about helping people.
