Biography

Rubi Perez is a fourteen-year-old female born on October 25,2009 at Pioneers Memorial

Hospital in Brawley, California. She is the Eldest sister out of two younger brothers named

Sergio and Santie. She is an 8th grader attending Barbare Worth Junior High school at Brawley,

[Link] is living at home with her great grandmother and two brothers. Her parents

separated when she was three and still has memories of both her father and mother in which they

are involved in her life. Rubi has been successful in school and is the favorite first granddaughter

and spoiled.

In her early years, Rubi had many struggles growing up. Her mother was only 18 years

old when she had her, and then at the age of 1 she had another baby which was Sergio. Her

mother suffers from bipolar disorder. Rubis father was 19 at that time and was a gangster, and in

n out of jail, and smoking weed. Rubis' household from birth to the age of 3 was physically

terrible. Her mother would smoke weed and forget to feed both Sergio and Rubi and would

starve them, she had jealousy issues and would fight with the father. Rubis mother at some point

left and would leave both of the kids unattended at the house. The father at that time would work

and not know what would happen until he would get home. Until one day child services came to

their house and took away both Rubi and Sergio and put them into a care home, both of Rubi's

parents went to court and lost full custody of the children.

Rubi and her brother Sergio stayed in a care home, until Rubis great-grandmother fought

and won for their custody and are now in a loving and secure home. She enjoys hanging out with

her friends and family, she likes to play sports, and watch movies. As to this day, Rubis mother

is getting treatment for her bipolar disorder at a clinic located in San Diego and her father is out

of prison and is currently working and getting help to be able to get closer to his kids.

Physical Development
Although adolescence is the period of transition between childhood and adulthood it

includes some big changes to the body and to the way a young person can relate to the world.

Physical Development for teenagers is an important part of their teenage life which can come at

different ages. In which Rubi is being affected by gaining weight and being diagnosed with

obesity. In the article of orthoinfo “ Children diagnosed with obesity often have difficulties with

their coordination called developmental coordination disorder in which may include clumsiness,

Problems with gross moto coordination such as jumping, hoping, or even standing on one foot.”

The food that Rubi eats impacts her ability in gaining weight because she eats pizza, juice

,chips, ice cream. When she is with her great-grandmother she only wants to eat junk food

because she is spoiled and doesn't want home cooked meals but eating this junk food increases

blood pressure, and behavioral changes. This causes her to have a hard time to maintain a healthy

lifestyle. She is also tall for a girl and her age and this causes her to get more attention from her

classmates but in the article “ when do girl stop growing, the age girl stop growing varies but

typically it is around 14 or 15 years old.

Rubi is suffering from all sorts of physical development but as well as acne, she doesn't

want to go to school because she feels she is being judged by how much acne she has on her

face. She Larissa in the article of teenshealth(2020)says “ teens get acne because of the hormone

changes that come with puberty, if your parents had acne as teens, it's more likely that you will

too. As well as eating junk food. By overactive oil glands in the skin and a buildup of oil and

dead skin cells and bacteria which leads to inflammation into the pores. This is noticeable in

Rubi and it's a great struggle for her

Another physical development trait is her sleep patterns. Due to her lack of sleeping late

because of doing her homework and having to wake up early for school. Teen and sleep(2023)

indicates that teens need 8-10 hours of sleep per night for their well being, sleep is essential for

teenages because it plays an important role in their physical and mental development.

Emotional Development

Not only is physical development important in teenagers but also the emotional

development stage plays a big role in teenagers and is also a difficult time. Rubi is an emotional

girl and she shows it by giving her opinion about the importance of school and how she does not

have to get good grades and do homework in order to be successful in life. In the article children

and youth (2023) low achieving adolescent students perceived daily school life interactions as

manageable and wont want to participate in their classroom activities. Another emotional

development she has is bad temper and aggression and believes its okay to act like that towards

her [Link] Pediatric (2024) Adolescence is a period of rapid physical and emotional

development teens often grapple with stressors like academic pressures, peer relationships,

identify formation which can lead to emotional turbulence and sometimes aggression in which

leads to hitting, pushing or any other form of physical violence and potentially cause problems in

their socials interactions with others.”

Another emotional development rubi has is fear, and anxiety she is scared of being left

behind and not fitting in with people. This all started when she entered 8th grade and had to

change schools and not fit in with other of her classmates and started to get an upset stomach of

how nervous she is . The American academy of child & adolescent Psychiatry(2024) Anxiety

during adolescence typically centers on changes in the way the adolescents body looks and feels,

social acceptance and conflicts about independence. When flooded with anxiety adolescents may

appear extremely shy and can avoid their usual activities or refuse to engage in new experiences.

Fear often involves both physical and emotional in which can cause chest pain, chills, nausea,

upset stomach.``Another important resource was [Link] (2022)says fourteen year olds want

to be accepted by their high school peers but many teens get anxious if they don't feel like they

fit in. It could take a toll on their self confidence and they may be at risk of seeking support.

Philosophical Development

Another development that is important is Philosophical development which is a

developmental process that occurs with respect to gaining moral reasoning or a philosophical

perspective about life and depending on the level of development life experience will be viewed

and explained in different and predictable way (Kohlberg, Piaget,1981,1930). Rubi in this case is

not able to use her moral reasoning in a lot of her decision making such as not wanting to do her

homework or following what her friends do and something impressive is that she doesn't always

agree with her friends and talks about how she isn't going to drink alcohol with them. Rubi

understands the concepts of what's right from wrong and listens very well, whenever it pleases

her and when she finds herself doing something wrong she will make sure her great-grandmother

doesn't find out so she doesn't get punished and gets her phone taken away. Rubi is aware of

other people's emotions and feelings and how not everyone is going to think or feel and share the

same ideas with her or even agree with [Link] she resolve conflicts with her peers it weakens

the children, this can help Rubi on her daily basis and will help her with her reasoning and her

problem solving, Rubi will continue to learn new things in the philosophical development if she

changes her pace and moral reasoning towards her peers.

Even though Rubi handles the stage of Philosophical development pretty well, she does

struggle in certain areas of the development and need improvement. Rubi is still ignorant of

things that she does not agree with and it could cause an issue with her friends or even peers.

Rubi is very passionate about what she believes and does not want to listen to other ideas. As she

continues to grow she will understand the value, and understanding of sharing her opinion with

others. In the article of everyday speech(2024) “ it is crucial for students to develop the ability to

share their opening and accept differing viewpoints by teaching students to express their

thoughts and feelings; it helps them engage in a better meaningful conversation and to develop

stronger relationships with others.

Social Development

Social Development is another important development: it's a critical ability to

motivate, teach, and successfully interact with students at various ages. Rubi is someone who is

shy when you first meet her until she feels comfortable with them she will be a very social teen.

In the [Link](2021) focus on themselves going back and forth between high expectations and

lack of confidence and experience more moodiness and will start to show more interest in

groups.” Rubi is slowly growing and practicing in opening up more to people without being shy.

Another social development that rubi has been working on improving is a relationship

with her peers. She might be antisocial towards her friends at first when they meet but they play

a big role in her daily life as a routine. Sherri Gordon(2022) stated “ Fourteen years old they

don't necessarily want to completely break away from their parents, but relying on friends or

confiding in them is a big part of their development.” Another resource is In the Educational

Psychology: Theory and Practice,13e it explains how adolescents increasingly turn away from

parents and toward peer [Link] believed that during adolescence the individual rapidly

changes physiology coupled with pressure to make decisions about future education and career.(

pg.59).

Another Social development would be self-worth and self esteem are important concepts

in the social development age of Rubi. Rubi is going through emotional problems and is going

through many body changes and her self esteem is affected in a way that could cause worry.

Emotional and Social Development (2023) Independence, Individuality, identity and self esteem

are important concepts in your child's emotional and social development at this age. Having

healthy self esteem helps protect adolescents from peers and group pressure.”

Intellectual Development

Lastly would be Intellectual Development which means the growth of a child's ability to

think and reason and how they can organize their minds, ideas and thoughts to make sense of the

world they live in. It expands their thinking to include more complex and futuristic.. Rubi is at an

age where intellectual development is important. The way she talks about the plans she has for

the future and who she wants to become. In the article Ezy Schooling (2021) At the age of

fourteen children start focusing on their future and start setting their personal goals and challenge

assumptions and solutions that are presented by the adults. But in Rubis future plans she doesn't

have any plans for education, all she thinks about is working, taking trips to Paris, and wasting

money on buying things, and having a famous billionaire husband. As she gets older she will

then realize the importance of maturing and having to finish her education to be successful in

life. Sherri Gordon (2022)But by providing plenty of supportive guidance and helping them gain

skills they need for a successful future they can weather this transition seamlessly.”

This is normal for others of her age and she is on the right track to expanding the way of

thinking about her and the world we live in, Rubi will realize more ahead that the world does not

always revolve around her and the effects of her thinking and with her family and friend it will

impact her on her growth in this area and she will see many new things. Dr. Jassey(2022)

recommends that you should get to know their friend group, show interest in their school life as

well as listening to them and having respect for the teenager and their expectation about privacy

and sharing on social media.”

Recommendations

My recommendation for Rubis Physical Development is for her to join any after school

clubs such as basketball, soccer, swimming, Tennis or even track would help her. I would also

advise the great grandmother to lower down on the junk food and start making more home made

foods which will become more healthier and will have a possibility of not having so much acne

and will make her feel better about herself..Making sure she drinks more water instead of always

drinking juice or soda.

My recommendation for Rubis Emotional Development would be to take it step by step

in opening up to other people in order to make friends, if that doesn't work maybe having one of

her friends accompany her to meet someone else so it doesn't pile on her and makes her feel

more anxious then she already is. As well as not copying what her friends say and taking her

tempered towards other people such as her caregivers.

My recommendation for Rubis Philosophical development would be to stop being in a

circle and only thinking that she is correct and that only her opinion matters. As well to telling

her why she is being disciplined instead of just screaming at her and making her understand what

the consequence of not hearing does.

My recommendation for Rubis Social development is to encourage her to focus more on

her education in order to be someone in the future and to be successful maybe not in a big way

but to be recognized and to feel proud that all that hard work was for something and not nothing.

As well as having her caregiver participate more into her school life and listening to her more

often so she could open up slowly but surely.
