Introductory Activity
They will identify the meaning of resolution, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution through
pasting in the diagram that I did.
Lesson proper
Begin the lesson by introducing Freytag's Pyramid, a graphical representation of the five essential parts
of a plot: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Explain each part of the pyramid
using examples from well-known stories or films. Provide background information about the author, Guy
De Maupassant, and the setting of the story. Introduce the main characters and the central conflict of
"The Necklace." Have students read the exposition of "The Necklace" either individually or in pairs. After
reading, lead a discussion about the exposition, focusing on key details such as the introduction of
Madame Loisel, her dissatisfaction with her life, and her desire for wealth and social status.
Activity/ Strategy
Divide the class into small groups and ask by group to make a plan on how will they hide the necklace
and after that they will act it in front.
Analysis
Provide students with copies of "The Necklace" and instruct them to read the story independently or in
pairs. As they read, ask students to identify significant plot events and jot them down on sticky notes or
index cards. Encourage them to consider how each event contributes to the development of the story's
plot.
Abstraction
Encourage students to consider how understanding the plot structure enhances their comprehension
and appreciation of the story. Emphasize the importance of recognizing the interconnectedness of plot
events in shaping the narrative arc.
Application
The students will share about what have they learn in the story.
Assessment
Encourage students to answer the following question, they will write their answer in one whole sheet of
paper.
Do you think Mathilde made the right decision by borrowing the necklace? Why or why not?
How did you feel when Mathilde discovered the necklace was a fake? What emotions did this
reveal about the character and her situation?
If you were in Mathilde’s place, what would you have done differently after losing the necklace?
Assignment
Read the story in title “The Small Key” by Paz Latorena and identify the resolution, rising action, climax,
falling action and resolution write in a one whole paper
