‭MYP Policies‬

‭Beaconhouse Newlands Mission Statement:‬

‭Promotion Criteria MYP 1 to MYP 4‬

‭For students to be promoted from one grade to another they must attain a score of 3 in‬
‭EOY in Mathematics, Language & Literature, Language Acquisition, Sciences, and‬
‭Individuals and Societies. Failing to do so will result in the student repeating the class.‬

‭ ased on the evaluation of the student's progress, a student who has failed in one‬

‭subject may be promoted to the next level on the condition that the subject will be‬
‭cleared in a retake in August before the commencement of the next academic year. In‬
‭addition , an undertaking will be signed by the parent that the student would pass in all 6‬
‭subjects in the midyear examination of the level to which they have been conditionally‬
‭promoted( Annexure 1) .‬

I‭n case a student does not meet the criteria outlined , the student will either repeat the‬
‭same class or leave the programme.‬

‭All above clauses are subject to adherence to the attendance policy, which is a minimum‬
‭of‬‭85%.‬
‭Promotion Criteria MYP 4 to MYP 5‬

‭For students to be promoted from MYP 4 to MYP 5, students must attain a score of 4 in‬
‭the EOY core subjects i.e Mathematics and Language and literature and 3 in Language‬
‭Acquisition, Sciences, and Individual and Societies. Failing to do so will result in the‬
‭student repeating the class.‬

‭ tudents once promoted to MYP 5 will be registered for the assessment and will‬

‭not be retained in MYP 5 even if they do not perform well in mid-year or mock‬
‭examinations.‬

‭Promotion from MYP to DP‬

‭ o be eligible for promotion from MYP to DP, students must satisfy the following‬

‭minimum criteria upon completion of MYP 5:‬

‭1.‬ A ‭ ttain‬ ‭a‬ ‭total‬‭score‬‭of‬‭no‬‭less‬‭than‬‭32‬‭out‬‭of‬‭56‬‭in‬‭the‬‭final‬‭grades‬‭across‬‭the‬‭eight‬


‭subject‬ ‭groups:‬ ‭Language‬ ‭and‬ ‭Literature,‬ ‭Language‬ ‭Acquisition,‬ ‭Individuals‬ ‭and‬
‭Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and Portfolio subject.‬
‭2.‬ ‭Successfully passed the mandatory subjects: Islamiat and Pakistan Studies‬
‭in the Cambridge IGCSE examinations in grades 9 and 10 respectively.‬
‭3.‬ ‭Achieve a grade of at least 4 out of 7 in the Core subjects (Mathematics, and‬
‭Language & Literature), and a grade of at least 3 in the remaining subjects (3‬
‭electives). A grade of 1 or 2 in more than 2 subjects will be considered a failure and‬
‭may lead to retention or dismissal from the programme.‬
‭4.‬ ‭Fulfill the completion and submission requirements for the e-portfolio by the‬
‭designated deadline, obtaining a satisfactory grade under MYP criteria.‬
‭5.‬ ‭Complete and document their service as action hours according to the MYP‬
‭requirements and school guidelines.‬
‭6.‬ ‭Demonstrate the attributes of the IB learner profile and adhere to the academic‬
‭honesty policy throughout the programme.‬

‭ tudents who fail to meet any of these requirements will not be promoted to DP and‬

‭will have to repeat MYP 5 or leave the programme. The decision will be made by the‬
‭ YP and DP coordinators in consultation with the subject teachers, the guidance‬
M
‭counselor, and the School Head.‬

‭Conditional Promotion to DP‬

‭Introduction and Purpose‬‭:‬

‭ his section of the policy is established to address the circumstances of students‬

‭who have at least attained a cumulative total of 32 points or more in the MYP‬
‭Assessment and have not met the passing criteria for one elective subject.‬

‭ he aim is to provide students with an opportunity for conditional promotion to DP,‬

‭subject to certain conditions and procedures. This approach ensures that students‬
‭possess the essential skills and knowledge requisite for success in DP.‬

‭Conditional Promotion and Resit Procedure‬

‭ tudents not meeting the criteria may be conditionally promoted to DP ( Annexure 2).‬

‭Students who have not achieved a passing grade in certain subjects will need to take‬
‭a retest in the November examination of the same year they complete MYP 5.‬

‭ tudents who resit in November may not be allowed to sit for the anticipated‬

‭assessment in DP 1 unless their internal grade is 5 in the subject.‬
