Physics Investigatory Project
Guidelines
➢ You may pick a topic of your choice, subject to the approval of your physics teacher. The more
original or new the project is, the better it would be. But it must be realistic in terms of the time
available and at a level attained in the higher secondary Physics.
➢ You must review the available literature to find out what type of work has been done. This will help
you to reject some of the alternatives, and possibly cause you to modify others. It may also be the
source of new ideas.
➢ By doing these investigatory projects you will gain experience of research besides providing
opportunity for new learning skills.
➢ Having identified a possible project, you should be able to identify and list the tentative objectives
you hope to attain by completing that investigation.
➢ The project report must be in A4 sheets and submitted in a stick file on the day of reopening of
school
CHEMISTRY
BIOLOGY
1. Preparation for the interview: Preparing for an interview that you will conduct is one of the most
important aspects to consider. The first thing to do is to decide whom you will be interviewing.
Depending on the field of psychology you want to explore, you can ask someone who is an expert
in that field and invite them formally for an interview through mail. Once you’ve confirmed
your interviewee, the next thing to do is to set up a date, t i m e and place of where the
interview will be held. Make sure the place you choose is perfect in conducting interviews. The
place should be public and not too noisy.
You will also have to multitask while conducting the interview, i.e., you will have to listen and
also take down notes of the responses given by the interviewee. Research the subject and use this
information to write down questions you want to ask, but understand you probably will need to
ask follow-up questions. Prepare for your interview ahead of time and tape your interview
w i t h c o n s e n t if possible, because you will not be able to write down everything your
interviewee says. As soon as you complete the interview, write down your thoughts and notes
from the interview while it is fresh in your mind.
2. Do some background research: Before conducting an interview, research the background
information of your interviewee so you know what questions to formulate.
3. Make some questions: Have a list of questions prepared beforehand. Possible questions could be: (i)
What kind of education is necessary for your particular job? (ii) Which college/university would you
recommend for the study of this discipline? (iii) Are theremany jobs available today in your area of
work? (iv) What would a typical day at workbe like for you – or is there no such thing as “typical”?
(v) What motivated you to enterthis line of work?
4. Stick to the subject of the interview: Make sure your interview has a purpose. Do not engage in
any discussion apart from the set agenda of the interview. Don’t forget to simplify your questions
to avoid confusion from your interviewee.
5. Prepare the required materials for the interview: Prepare the following materials you may use;
smartphone, tape recorder (record the interview only with the consent of the interviewee.) pen,
paper (for note-taking), notebook (where you keep your questions). Don’t forget to keep their
contacts and their phone numbers or e-mails just in case if you need some clarifications from the
interview.
6. Practice your interview: You may practice with a family member, a friend, or anyone who is
willing to sit down and help you out. This way you’ll get to see whether your questions make sense,
you’ll be aware of how you conduct your interview and make some changes to your pre-interview
questions. That way, you will be well – prepared for the interview.
7. Decide the format of interview report writing: You can choose any of these two formats– the
question & answer format or the narrative format.
• In the question and answer format (Q & A), you should begin with aparagraph about the
interviewee as an introduction. Write a brief background about the interview, the place
where you conducted the interview and the subject or themes of your interview. After, the
interview itself will be written out. Use your two initials as an interviewer, and twofor
your interviewee after the first question and answer. The initials of the person speaking are
written first then followed by what the person answers. There’s no need for quotation marks.
A brief concluding paragraph should also be written to wrap things up at the end of the
report.
• In narrative format, you can make use of the notes you wrote down before and after you
conducted your interview to flesh out the report. In the first paragraph of this format, write
a brief detail about what the report is about, who the interviewee is, and the location of the
interview. Then break up the interview into paragraphs, just like narrating a story and then
use the selected quotes that you think are important and have helped you understand the
topic better. Make a conclusion paragraph to end your report. In this format, you need to
use a quotation mark when quoting your interviewee.
8. Write an introspective report at the end: Start the introspective report by stating what was your
perspective about a particular field of psychology you have chosen to explore, later state your
experience of preparing for the interview (was the preparation phase exciting/nervous, what were
the hurdles, what were the new things you had to learn in the preparation phase, etc.). At the end
state the learnings of the interview in a comparative manner by stating the pre-interview and post-
interview viewpoints/paradigm shift that has happened.
Note: Write the assignment on an A4-sized sheet of white paper, using the blue and black penfor
differentiating the interviewer and the interviewee, and draw proper margins on the A4- sized paper. Also,
add a picture of you and the interviewee. Arrange the pages in a folder (youcan customize your folder
creatively according to the field of psychology you have chosen to explore).
WORKSHEET
Prepare your project for the Viva and assessment to be conducted after the vacation.
Students need to ensure the chosen topic is not already taken by another student. Final confirmation of the
project that need to be worked upon has to be done only after the confirmation of the teacher concerned.
