Company.
In this lesson we are going to explore topics:
 Start menu / Start-up menu

By the end of this lesson, Learners are supposed to be


familiar with most MS Windows features.

Start Menu

The start menu is GUI element that provides a central launching point for
computer programs and performing other tasks.

To show the start menu,


i. Click the Start button
at the left of the
Taskbar.
ii. OR Press the windows
logo key on your
keyboard.
In the Start Menu, you can
access, Applications, Files,
Settings and Power button.

Start-Up Menu

The start menu is a menu that appears when the computer is turned on or
restarted. It is accessed by pressing a specific key, such as F2, F8, F10, or F12,
during the boot process.

Using Window-based Programs

 Window based programs/ application are used to complete different task in


windows operating system.
 Example are : Windows File Explorer, Microsoft Office Applications, Microsoft
Edge, etc.
 To open any Window-Based program, type its name in the Search button
 The interface of the program will vary depending on its function. Most
programs will use menus, toolbars, ribbons and other buttons to access its
different features.
 Close the program by clicking on the Close Button on the top left Corner of
the program

Changing Taskbar Options
 The Taskbar is the long horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen.

To change the taskbar options, customize the look and functionality of the
taskbar:
 Right-click on an empty space on the taskbar
 Chose Taskbar settings from the menu that appears.
 Under Taskbar settings window, choose any settings. These include
Notification Area, Multiple displays, Taskbar location on screen.
 Once the changes are made. Click the close button.

Working on your Windows Desktop

The windows desktop is the onscreen work area and


the taskbar.
Activities that can be done in windows desktop
include:
 Managing files and folders.
 Customizing your desktop background. WINDOWS
 Organizing your icons.
 Using desktop gadgets.
 Adjusting display settings.

Find Command

 The Find command on Windows is used to search


for a specific file, folder or text within a file.
 To use the find command, press Ctrl+F, or on the
Edit menu select Find.
WINDOWS
 Enter the search term and click Find or Find Next.
Search results are highlighted. Close the Find
Feature when you finish searching.

Changing the Regional Settings

 Windows allow its users to customize dates, time,


currency and other regional specific settings.
 To do this, search control panel in the search bar,
click on the Clock and Region icon, from that
settings, customize the time, region and on the WINDOWS
additional settings change the format to your
desired one.
 Apply the changes by clicking OK and Restart your
computer to effect the changes.

Efficiency in Using Windows Help

 Use the Windows key + F1 shortcut to open the


windows help centre.
 Use the search function to quickly find information
about a particular topic or issue. On the search bar,
type help and click on that function command to
get help.
 Most Window Based application have windows Help WINDOWS
button. Locate the help button on far-right end of
the menu bar. It can also be indicated by the
question mark label in some programs.
 In cases where online help would be needed, search
Microsoft Support from this web address
