TITLE: FOCUS GROUP DISCUSSIONS WITH YOUTH CLUB MEMBERS
ON SEXUAL-BASED VIOLENCE AMONG ADOLESCENTS.
Our names are…………………………………, students from Lilongwe University
of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Bunda College Campus). We are
conducting a research on Knowledge, Attitude and Practice on Sexual Based
Violence among adolescents: a comparative study of youth club members and non-
youth club members. . We would like us to discuss some of the issues relating to
this topic. This is part of our partial fulfillment for our bachelor’s degree. This
discussion is not going to take more than thirty minutes. Your participation is
voluntary and your responses will be kept confidential.
Knowledge Assessment:
1. What does the term "sexual-based violence" mean to you? How would you
define it?
2. Can you identify different forms of sexual-based violence that you are aware of?
3. Have you received any education or information about sexual-based violence in
your youth club or elsewhere?
4. What do you know about the importance of consent in sexual relationships?
Attitudes towards Sexual-Based Violence:
5. How do you feel about the issue of sexual-based violence in your community?
6. Do you think sexual-based violence is a problem among adolescents in your age
group?
7. What role do you think youth clubs can play in raising awareness about and
preventing sexual-based violence?
8. How comfortable are you discussing issues related to sexual-based violence with
your peers or adults?
Practices and Experiences:
9. Have you or anyone you know personally experienced sexual-based violence? If
comfortable, please share your thoughts or experiences.
10. Do you think there are situations in which it is more likely for sexual-based
violence to occur among adolescents? Can you give examples?
11. Have you ever witnessed or heard about an incident of sexual-based violence
among your peers? How did you react or respond?
12. What actions or measures do you think can be taken to prevent sexual-based
violence among adolescents?
Youth Club Engagement:
13. How has your involvement in the youth club influenced your knowledge or
attitudes regarding sexual-based violence?
14. Do you think the youth club has been effective in addressing issues related to
sexual-based violence? Why or why not?
15. Are there any specific activities or discussions in the youth club that you found
particularly helpful in understanding or addressing sexual-based violence?
