Design population
DRAIN CALCULATION MEMORY

To calculate the future population or design population, the following

relationship was used:
Pf = Po * (1 + r * t / 100)
where:
Pf = Future population
po = Current population
R = Growth rate, assume 1.3%
T = Design period in years, HEassumes 20 years.

1 .02 FLOW:
Endowment

Considering that the study area is rural and is located above 3,500
meters above sea level in the mountain area, for the supply of
drinking water, through a system it has been considered convenient
to adopt an average supply of 100 lt/inhabitant/day, thereby
guaranteeing the daily supply for consumption and is with which the
following design flows have been calculated.

The formulas used to determine water consumption or water demand

are shown below:
Average Demand = ( Pfuture * endowment ) / 86400
Dmd = 1.30 * Average Demand
Dmh = 2.6 * Average Demand

Domestic Flow.- It is 80% of the water consumption flow.

Infiltration Flow.- The following is estimated to calculate the infiltration flow:

Infiltration per linear meter of pipe: 0.00075 Its/sec x ml.

1.02.01 DESIGN CRITERIA

DRAINAGE NETWORK OR SEWER SYSTEM

CALCULATION BASIS
DRAIN CALCULATION MEMORY

The hydraulic design of the network is based on the suggestions of the

RNE and the National Technical Building Standard S-100 “Health
Infrastructure for urban populations” that are indicated, as well as on
bibliography related to the topic:
System Capacity.- The pipes must be designed to conduct the
maximum flow with a flow height (draft) of 75% of the pipe diameter. In
no case will they work under pressure.
The lines will be designed maintaining minimum flow speeds of 0.60
m/s to avoid sedimentation due to low drag speed and maximum of 3.0
m/s in order to avoid erosion due to excessive speeds; The maximum
allowable speed in PVC will be 3.00 m/s. There is a criterion that when
the minimum speed is not met, it must be designed to achieve a
minimum tractive force of 0.1 kg/m2 or 1 Pascal.
Pipes.- In streets 20 m wide or less, a sewer line will be projected,
preferably in the axis of the street.
On streets or avenues more than 20 m wide, a sewer line will be
projected on each side of the road, unless the installation of a single line
is justified.
The distance between the property line and the vertical plane tangent
to the pipe must be at least 1.50m.
Minimum diameter.- The minimum diameter of the collectors will be
160 mm for housing facilities and 200 mm for industrial use facilities.
The minimum design slopes according to the diameters will be those
that satisfy the minimum speed of 0.60 m/s with the design flow.
The collectors will be projected at a minimum depth such that it
ensures the drainage of all the lots facing the street.

FORMULAS USED IN HYDRAULIC CALCULATION

The RNE stipulates that the hydraulic calculation of the pipelines

sewage will be done using rational formulas; Consequently,

Manning's formula, continuity equation and partially filled
section relations will be used:
21
R 3
×
V
h

S 2

Manning equation:

Continuity equation Q = V × A

W × R h

⇒ Q = × S 12

The hydraulic elements for runoff at different ties in circular

HYDRAULIC CALCULATION
DRAIN CALCULATION MEMORY

Circular sewers will be designed for conduction with a flow height

of a maximum of 75% of the collector section, with the excess
section being sufficient to ensure adequate ventilation.

Having the terrain data, we determine the slope that guarantees a

runoff speed of 0.6 m/s or, where appropriate, a tractive force of
0.10 kg/m2 (1 pascal).

S =
3
I R
h

T=R* γ*S
Then, the final slope is the one that best adapts to the slope of the
land, always taking into consideration the slope determined
previously.
It should be noted that the minimum slope at the beginning of a
section must in no case be less than the minimum determined
below;

MAILBOX INSPECTION CAMERAS

Inspection cameras are provided to clean and inspect the sewers.
These will be located in the following cases:
❖ At the beginning of every collector.
❖ In all joints.

❖ In collector slope changes.

❖ In changes of direction.
❖ In diameter changes

❖ In material changes

❖ In any place that is necessary for inspection and cleaning

reasons.
DRAIN CALCULATION MEMORY

The maximum separation between the inspection chambers (mailboxes) is in

direct relation to the diameter of the collectors:

Maximum
Diameter -------- clearance ---------------
150mm. 80 meters.
200 to 250mm. 100 meters
300 to 600mm. 150 meters.
> diameters 250 meters.

The characteristics of these mailboxes are regulated by the RNE, including:

- In inspection chambers in which the pipes do not reach the same

level, a drop device must be designed when the discharge or drop
height with respect to the bottom of the chamber is greater than
1.00 m, it is not a design issue.
- At the bottom of the inspection chambers, a half-round should be
designed in the direction of flow, and a slope of 25% between the
edge of the half-round and the side walls of the chamber.
- The interior diameter of the mailboxes will be 1.20 m for pipes up
to 800 mm in diameter.

The project inspection cameras are assumed taking into consideration

everything mentioned above.

HOME CONNECTIONS.
They consist of facilities that transport wastewater from homes to the collector
that passes through the street. This connection must adhere to basic
sanitation recommendations to achieve efficient operation. This connection
consists of three parts:

Meeting element.

Prefabricated concrete manhole box whose shape is rectangular

of dimensions as shown in the attached table.

Its walls will be plastered with cement mortar: sand (1:5) 15 mm thick,
at the bottom it will have a half-round with a slope of 2%. They will
have a cast iron lid.

Driving Element

They will be with 4” pipes for home connections in family homes and
6” in home connections corresponding to public institutions or
buildings where the domestic contribution justifies it.
It will have a minimum slope of 1.5% and no more than 10%, they
must be at the necessary depth so that the upper part of the pipe
passes under any drinking water pipe with a minimum separation of
10", the minimum depth of the pipe. Driving distance on the sidewalk
will be 80 cm. Measured from the top of the tube, the maximum will be
1.10 m.

Splicing Element
It refers to the way of connecting to the conduction element collectors.
In our case, the PVC HOUSEHOLD SPLICE (Tee Silla) will be used,
welded with plastic glue to the collector pipe, secured on both sides
with clamps.
More detail is presented in the plans and technical specifications of
home connections.
