“Between Two Trees is a three storey residence that represents different levels
of privacy. “

Site and Design Ideology

The house is welcomed by two massive trees
which become the entrance gateway to the
building. In a general view, the home looks
like a composition of cubes while the space
is created under the lifting volumes. The first
storey is the common area with services while
the next two storeys function as semi-private
and private areas.

Client Brief
The client has a joint family, consisting of the elderly
grandparents, parents, and two kids with the explicit
wish to have a home filled with natural elements
while being able to improve the spiritual connection
between each family member.

Architecture Style
The entire language of the home is centralized
on the fusion between Indian and Balinese
architectural style that includes a lot of natural
materials spread across the house.

Interior Details
The interior material palette is kept to a
minimum with wood, concrete, Jaisalmer
yellow marble, Kota stone, exposed bricks
being the highlights. The furniture also is kept in
warm tones sourced from Bali to compliment
the spaces perceived.

Connection with Nature

The bedroom has attached sit-outs –
where nature is invited to flow inside. By
that meaning, natural elements are always
welcomed to be part of the home.

Facade
The main elevation indicates clearly the concept
of the geometry, while the volumes are mostly
covered by horizontal wooden slats that absorb the
south sun heat.

The Traditional Courtyard

The main feature of the home is the presence of the
Nandi statue in a courtyard. Located at the center of
the house with a central skylight above, it is flanked by
four wooden Chettinad columns which clearly define
the spaces to add warmth to the home.
