Environment according to MacMillan dictionary means the natural world, including the land,

water, air, plants and animals especially considered as something that is affected by human
activities .Example of classification of environments such as aquatic environment (marine, such
as oceans and seas and freshwaters such as Lakers and rivers, Terrestrial environment such as
land and Atmospheric environment such as air.

Stakeholders according to the international standard providing guidance on social responsibility called
ISO 26000, defines a stakeholder as an “individual or group that has an interest in any decision or activity
of an organization”. Stakeholders may include suppliers , internal staff , members , customers(including
shareholders , investors and customers)regulators and local and regional communities .Additionally ,
stakeholders may include purchasers , clients , owners and Non -governmental organizations (NGOs).

Environmental stakeholders mean wealthy, environmentalist and or living in dense areas.

The following are the environment stakeholders in Tanzania and their specific roles in conserving the
environmental like womens, Government (local government), Indigenious people and their community
and Non-Governmental Organizations (CBOs&NGOs).

Non-Governmental Organizations (CBOs & NGOs)

Community based organization(CBOs)is a small organization that does not have the registered status of a
Non-Governmental Organization but is structured group of civil society , on- profits that operate within a
single community and Non-Governmental Organizations(NGOs)is a non-profit group that functions
independently of any government. The following are the roles of CBOs and NGOs in conserving the
environment as follows;-

They provide funding for environmental programme;-CBOs and NGOs provide fund for the
environmental program for the development of various projects including the environmental protection
project including of a national environmental policy for environmental protection including planting trees
in schools, offices and even at home as well, then as a result of this exercise the environment becomes
cleaner for human consumption.

They create awareness;- Due to the education they provide to people in the community it leads them to
understand the importance of the environment and also to be able to take care of the environment and also
each grows to be a protector for each other in caring for the environment.

They conduct research to facilitate policies development;-Due to the various studies conducted by people
in governmental and non-governmental organizations lead to the creation or establishment of various
environmental development policies, due to these policies leading to the use and observance of a special
day of global environmental protection.

Government

Is the government that is controlling power over a unitary state. A government is comprises different
ministries like health sector, environmental sector, and others sectors which are controlled and governed
by the government. The following are the roles of government in conserving the environment as follows;-

It provide environmental policy such as national environmental policy;-directed to contributing to


sustainable economic development and to the health and safety by maintaining, improving the quality of
the environment, also another role of the government is through the national policy to ensure that in
sector of economic, health and safety are well maintained by improving the quality of the national
environmental in general.

Government provides rules and law that guide environment;-one among of the role of the government
towards the environmental conservation is is through enacting different rules and law that guide the
[Link] the repealed Environment Act 73 of 1989 intended to provide for effective
protection and controlled utilization of the environment and for matters incidental there to.

Supervision of environment policies implementation;-Another role of the government toward the


environment conservation is through supervision of environmental policies and implementation where by
the government supervise which is National Environment Management Council (NEMC) and the
members within the communities they have to make implementation.

Women

Women in developing world are predominantly responsible for management and conservation of
resources for their families. Women spend vast amounts of time collecting and storing water , securing
sources of fuel , food and managing land be it forest , wetlands or agricultural terrain. The following are
the roles of women in environmental conservation as follows;-

Women have always been the principal conserves of bio-diversity;-Even today they perform duties such
as seed selection , multiplication and conservation , The onfam conservation traditions of rural and tribal
women with reference to agro-biodiversity are well [Link] dilemmas but they have
different relationship with environment including different needs, responsibilities, and knowledge about
natural resources , this is why women are affected differently than men by the environmental degradation,
deforestation pollution and over pollution.
Traditionally women have been responsible for subsistence and survival for water, food, fuel fodder and
habitat through they rarely get the credit for nurturing these life support system . Added to these
environmental destruction, exacerbates women’s problem in a way very difficult from that of men. The
challenge is to re establish the symbiosis between communities, women and natural resources and
reserves the trend of the negative impact of existing developmental paradigms.

Indigenous people and their communities.

These are distinct social and cultural groups that share collective ancestral ties to the lands and natural
resources where they live, occupy or from which they have been displaced and the community means
group of people living together in a certain area sharing problems and solve it together. The following are
the role of indigenous people and their communities as follows;-

Indigenous people help to protect climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution;- Indigenous people
protect the environment firstly through resisting occupation and deforestation in the area, secondly by
becoming increasingly aware of their responsibility in protecting the forest and the other protection that
has been made by the indigenous people is through biodiversity loss and pollution.

Indigenous people help to improve conservation , restoration , and sustainable use of nature;-another role
of indigenous people is through improvement of the conservation, restoration and the sustainable use of
nature through this it will help to conserve the environment better for the betterment and the use of
natural resources which can be founding in the environment.

Therefore environment stakeholder identify relevant environment roles in conserving the environment by
ensuring they plays a role part towards keeping the environment better and clean in order for the living
organism to be safe.

Research and awareness creation play a pivotal role in policy development by providing evidence-based insights that inform policy formulation. They help identify key environmental issues and trends, leading to targeted interventions. Awareness creation educates stakeholders, fostering public support and adherence to environmental policies .

Environmental policies enacted by governments improve the quality of life by ensuring sustainable use and maintenance of natural resources. They contribute to economic development while safeguarding public health. By implementing policies for environmental protection, such as maintaining clean air and water, communities experience better health outcomes and a more stable ecosystem .

NGOs in Tanzania play several roles in environmental conservation. They provide funding for environmental programs which aid in projects like tree planting, resulting in a cleaner environment. NGOs create awareness about environmental issues, educating communities on their importance and responsibilities. They also conduct research to facilitate policy development, influencing global environmental protection efforts .

CBOs differ from NGOs in that they are smaller and operate within single communities, without registered NGO status. Both provide funding for environmental programs, but CBOs are more localized, focusing on community-specific issues. NGOs, on the other hand, have a broader operational scope and influence, contributing to policy development and creating wider awareness about environmental issues .

Indigenous communities contribute to combating climate change and conservation by resisting land occupation and deforestation. They play a role in improving conservation efforts through the restoration and sustainable use of nature. Their awareness and actions in protecting forests and addressing biodiversity loss and pollution significantly aid environmental conservation efforts .

Stakeholder involvement is crucial in environmental conservation because it brings diverse perspectives and expertise, from suppliers to local communities, fostering collaborative decision-making. It ensures that the needs and interests of all affected parties are considered, leading to more effective policies and conservation strategies .
