SAP Note

3302250 - Cloud Connector support strategy

Component: BC-MID-SCC (Basis Components > Middleware > SAP Cloud Connector On-Demand/On-Premise
Connectivity), Version: 7, Released On: 02.05.2024

Symptom
You are running a certain Cloud Connector version and need to know whether SAP is still providing support for it and what a new
version semantically means.

Other Terms
end of maintenance, support period, version, release

Reason and Prerequisites

SAP publishes regularly feature and patch releases of Cloud Connector. This note explains, which versions are still in support and
informs about when an upgrade should be done in order to still get support. All the information below is only about Cloud Connector
2 versions, support of Cloud Connector 1 version has already ended on December 31, 2014.

Solution
Currently, the latest Cloud Connector 2 version is 2.17.0. Any issue that requires a correction will be fixed on basis of this version
only. In case an exceptional preliminary patch/hotfix is required to be provided to you, an upgrade to this version is mandatory
before applying it.
Release types
Version change from 2.x.y to 2.(x+1).0: (e.g. 2.14.2 to 2.15.0) – a feature release
Such a version will contain new features compared to the previous version that will allow you to extend the scenarios in which
you can use the Cloud Connector. Also larger architectural changes only happen in feature releases. Furthermore, configuration
options might have been simplified.
Version change from 2.x.y to 2.x.(y+1): (e.g. 2.15.1 to 2.15.2) – a patch release
Such a version will contain only patches and small enhancements, but never a completely new feature. Known bugs have been
fixed.
Support strategy
In general, SAP will support the latest 2 feature versions in parallel.
Once the next feature release is provided, for a transition phase of 4 months the latest 3 feature releases will be supported.
An upgrade to the latest feature release is supported from the previous 2 feature releases, the same is true for restoring backups
created by older releases.
Within a feature release
the last 2 patch levels are supported, if it is the latest feature release.
only the last patch release is supported, once there is a newer feature release available.
it is recommended to upgrade to the latest patch release within 3 months after it has been released.
New patch releases will be provided only for the latest feature release.
SAP Connectivity service will ensure compatibility to all supported versions.
Once a Cloud Connector release gets out of support, you run it at your own risk. Compatibility with SAP Connectivity service is
no longer ensured and interoperability may be disrupted as newer versions of Connectivity Service might introduce potentially
incompatible changes to Cloud Connector versions that are no longer supported.
In case of issues with such releases, SAP expects an upgrade to a supported one before an analysis will be done.
In case the support strategy will be changed, this note will be updated.
