PROCEDURE: For determination of the galvanometer Constant K:
() Conectionsare made as shown in fig.1
(1) A current is set up to obtain full scale deflection of the light spot.
Now the curent is suddenly broken up by moving the [Link] KT and the time period of oscillation Tof the
coil in the open circuit is noted.
(GThe resistance r in the galvanometer circuit is mide zero and the corresponding steady deilection is
noted. Now, r is increased from zero to sone valie r io Imake the deflection half of the initin! value.
This paticular value r gives the value of the galvanometer resistane.
(iv)The resistance R in the battery circuit is chengcd by keeping the shunt resistance R, constant and the
oneration (i) is repeatei two times.
(V)The emf of the batterv is noted before and ater the exneriment and the inean value of E is found out.
(vi)Then Kis found out from the reiation (8).
For studyirg the variation of magnetic field H:
()Connections are made as shown in fig.2
(i)A high resistance (greater than the critical daraping resistance of the galvanomete") s put in the
galvanometer circuit.
(iii) To draw (i H) curve, the distance d betweern the iwo pole pieces is notedard th: current i is
reversed with the help of Pohl's com1utato: Corresponding deflection is noted.
(iv)Keeping d coStant, operai ion (üi) is repeated for different i
(ý?5raw (d-H) curve, current (i) and separation (d) #re, noted.
Then cuirent iis reversei with the help of Pohl's comutatcr.
Correspordirg deilcction is noted.
(vi)Keeping i constant, opertion (v) is repeateci fr different d.
