Chakra Meditation

According to traditional yoga philosophy the ‘CHAKRAS’ are subtle

force centers that vitalize and control the physical body.
In Sanskrit ‘chakra’ means wheel. Chakras are wheels of energies.
There are 7 important major chakras.. They are not visible in the physical
body; but located in the invisible energy body. All the 7 chakras are
connected to the endocrine glands. Each chakra has its own Colour,
Mantra and Element.

The seven chakras are

1--Mooladhara or Root chakra located at the tip of the tailbone.

It is Red in colour and the Mantra is ‘LUM’ & the Element is earth.

2--Swadhisthana or Hara chakra located below the navel.

Colour-Orange ; Mantra - ‘VUM’ ; Element - Water.

3--Manipura or solar plexus chakra located in the sternum.

Colour - Yellow ; Mantra - ‘RUM’ ; Element - Fire.

4-- Anahata or Heart chakra located in the middle of the chest.

Colour - Green ; Mantra - ‘YUM’ ; Element - Air.

5--Vishudha or Throat chakra on the throat.

Colour - Light Blue ; Mantra - ‘HUM’ ; Element - Ether.

6--Ajna or Third eye chakra on the forehead between eyebrows.

Colour Dark Blue or Indigo ; Mantra is ‘Oum’.

7--Sahasrara or Crown chakra on the top of the head.

Colour - Violet ; Mantra - ‘OM’.
These chakras are responsible for growth, behaviour, thought process
and proper functioning of all systems. They control every aspect of your
individual being, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. All physical
diseases have metaphysical causes. Imbalance in the chakras leads to
diseases.
We can restore our health by balancing the chakras through meditation.

Chakra meditation procedure

Sit comfortably on a chair or mat. Old or sick people can lie down on a
bed or mat. Relax the body from the top of your head to toes. Breath slowly
and deeply without any strain. Breathing should be natural and smooth.
Count from 10 to 1.
Now visualize roots forming from the soles of your feet, going deep into
the earth 10 meters down, forming branches and anchoring you strongly to
the mother earth.
Request Mother Earth and the Divine Light to cleanse and energise you
by affirming
“Thank you Mother Earth and Divine Light for cleansing and energising
my whole body.”

Now visualize the earth energy in the form of white light entering your
feet through the roots. It goes up and flows up into the Root Chakra and
fills it with red colour cleansing and energising it. Slowly breath in and
breathe out chanting ‘LUM’ for 2 to 3 mts.

Visualize red colour energy flowing into the spine, kidneys, urinary bladder,
large intestine, genital organs, hips and legs filling and energising them.
They fill your aura at that level.
They are energised. They are healthy.
Affirm: “I am strongly rooted to Mother earth. I am filled with happiness,
joy and prosperity.”

Then the white earth energy flows into Hara / Swadhisthana chakra at the
back filling it with orange colour.
Concentrate and breath for 2 to 3 mts. Chanting the mantra ‘VUM’. Now
orange colour flows into small intestines, genital organs, uterus and ovaries
for women and testis for men.and into the aura at that level filling and
energising them.
Affirm: “I am physically strong and I enjoy my life.”

Visualize earth energy reaching Manipura/Solar plexus chakra at the

back filling it with yellow colour. Chant ‘RUM’. Continue for 2 to 3 mts. Now
the yellow energy is filling the small intestine, liver, gallbladder at the right
side and pancreas and spleen at the left, stomach and upper part of the
abdomen and the aura at that level.
Affirm: “I am confident.I follow my gut feeling.”

Likewise earth energy flows into Anahata/Heart chakra at the back

turning into green colour. Chant the mantra ‘YUM’. Remain for 2 to 3 mts.
This green energy is filling and energising the thymus, physical heart,
lungs, chest area, upper part of the lungs, shoulders and hands and aura at
that level.
Affirm: “I love myself and others. I easily forgive myself and others.”

Now the earth energy is reaching the Vishuddha/Throat chakra at the

back filling it with light blue colour. Chant the mantra ‘HUM’. Remain for 2 to
3 mts. Light blue energy is filling thyroid, parathyroid, throat, jaws, mouth,
ears, neck, wind and food pipes, upper portion of the lungs, shoulders and
hands and the aura at that level cleansing and energising them.
Affirm: “I effectively communicate my thoughts and feelings.”

Next earth energy is entering the Ajna/Third eye chakra at the back filling
it with dark blue/indigo colour. Chant the mantra ‘OUM’. Chant and
concentrate for 2 to 3 mts. See the blue colour is flowing into the pituitary
gland, forehead, nose, sinus, ears and lower part of the brain energising
them.
Affirm: “I have faith in my intuition and telepathy.”

Earth energy is now reaching the Sahasrara/Crown chakra filling it with

violet light. Concentrate on the chakra chanting the mantra ‘OM’ for 2 to 3
mts. Violet light energy is flowing into the pineal gland, upper portion of the
brain and head, right eye and the whole nervous system and the aura at
that level.
Affirm: “I am strongly connected to God. God is fulfilling all my needs.”

Now all your chakras are cleansed and energised. Bring back the Earth
energy from the Crown chakra to Mother earth by passing it through all
front chakras to the Root chakra from where it flows back to the earth
through the roots.

Now invoke the Divine white light from the cosmos to fill your whole body
and aura. Feel the warmth. Now you are fully energised and protected by a
strong aura.
Breathe slowly and deeply for a few more minutes enjoying stillness and
peace and come out of the meditation, slowly opening your eyes.
Rub your palms and face, tap your head, shoulders, heart, liver and
kidneys.

This meditation can be done at any time except when the stomach is full.
If done before bath, have a half an hour gap for taking a bath.

Do not concentrate on a single chakra for a long time.

Refrain from attempting to awaken the ‘Kundalini’ prematurely.
Refrain from attempting to develop psychic powers prematurely by
meditating and concentrating on ‘Ajna chakra’ .
