1 Overview
This document details the function and usage of each key for CDM8240N diagnostic program. It
provides guidance for service engineers when they conduct routine maintenance or functional test for
the CDM. It can also be used as reference for related trainings.

2 PC Configuration
Operating system: WINDOWS 2000 / WINDOWS XP / WINDOWS 7 installed with the Dunite
software of the Company.
Minimum hardware configuration: PIII800, 256MB memory, keyboard, mouse, and serial port.

3 Related Software
GRGBanking Dunite Platform
CDM8240N.exe
GRGDTATM_CommCfg.ini
Code definition.mdb
CDM8240N main board and NV board USB driver (GRGUSB.inf, GRGUSB.sys)

4 Driver Installation
To communicate in USB mode, ensure that the system is subject to 32 bits, because a 64-bit system is
currently not supported by the Company’s USB driver. To communicate via an RS232 serial port, omit
this step.
When the PC is connected to the main control board of the CDM8240N for the first time, a message
will be displayed, showing that new hardware is found.

8.4.2 Self-calibration of thickness
The command of self-calibration is required only in the following case:
(1) Thickness sensor is maintained or adjusted. or
(2) The main board is maintained or replaced.
Before leaving the factory, each CDM8240N has already conducted the self-calibration. The function
of self-calibration is to test whether the thickness sensor can operate normally and to ensure that CDM
can correctly check the thickness of all notes.
Before executing “SelfCalibration” command, the operator should confirm the following situations:
(1) At least 12 standard cashes are prepared for the self-calibration (such cashes must meet relevant
requirements of the company for thickness calibration).
(2) Thickness sensor has already been adjusted to its optimal status.
(3) Permission of cash dispensing has already been obtained to ensure that the “SelfCalibration”
button is available.
After confirmation to the three points above, the operator may select the slot with standard cashes for
self-calibration, ensure correct value of thickness is entered (i.e., the thickness of standard cashes for
self-calibration), and then click “SelfCalibration” button to execute self-calibration function. During
self-calibration, the CDM will feed 12 standard cashes. After self-calibration, the result will be
returned to and displayed in “Result” box.
Note: (1) For some countries, the operator may use local notes for self-calibration, but he or she
should enter the thickness value with reference to relevant GRG documents. (2) The function of
self-calibration may be executed only once.
8.4.3 Factory settings

8.5 Performance test

8.5.1 Reading MTS value

Note: Before leaving the factory, the thickness sensor has already been adjusted to its optimal status.
Therefore, there is generally no need to use this command unless any of the following cases occurs:
(1) The thickness sensor is re-adjusted or re-assembled.
(2) The sensor is replaced.
(3) The main board is replaced. Or
(4) There are still many notes to be recycled after “self-calibration”.
There are two types of CDM8240N thickness sensor, i.e., eddy-current type and photoelectric type.
Eddy-current type thickness sensor is fixed and generally does not need to be adjusted, and its normal
range of reading is 650~950. If its reading is beyond this range, the operator may loosen the screw on
the metal plate support of thickness plate and do the trimming to make such value to be within the
normal range. Photoelectric type thickness sensor can be adjusted according to the following steps.
Its MTS value can be adjusted as below.
(1) Click “MTS Value” button to obtain real-time MTS value. Normal MTS value is within
“2800~3200”; otherwise, the thickness sensor needs to be re-adjusted.
(2) When the MTS value is within “2800~3200”, the operator needs to place a standard note under

Confidential material of GRG, No disclosure to unauthorized party 19-27

the thickness sensor to observe the change of such value. If the MTS value gets smaller, such as a
decrease of about 100~200, it means the adjustment is successful. However, if the MTS value
gets larger or is slightly changed, the operator should to re-adjust the thickness sensor.
(3) Click “Stop” to finish the MTS value display.
8.5.2 Reading thick value
Relevant details and operations are similar to those for MTS value.
8.5.3 Life state parameter
The operator may click the “Life State” parameter button to obtain the total number of dispensed
cashes and rejected cashes since the machine started to work.
8.5.4 Last dispense information
The operator may click the “Last Dispense Info” button to obtain the last dispense information. This
function can ensure fast analysis of the last dispense and provide the following information:
(1) In case of normal cash dispensing, the operator may obtain number of the last dispensed cashes,
rejected notes and presented notes, and cash dispensing of each slot.
(2) In case of sudden power off during cash dispensing, the operator may obtain number of the last
presented notes and rejected notes, and total number of fed cashes.
8.5.5 Getting sensor level
Before getting sensor level, the operator should ensure that no note blocks such sensor in the channel.
Then, the operator may click “Get Level” button to obtain level status of 17 sensors (If PES may be
ignored if it is a U-type sensor), for which green represents normal, yellow represents dirty, and red
represents failed. If the sensor level is displayed as dirty or failed, the operator should clean such
sensor and conduct initialization after cleaning. If the operator clicks “AutoGet” button, the software
will obtain the sensor levels automatically after each small period.

8.6 NV setting

NV setting requires the operator to start NV function of the CDM and ensure that the PC machine and
NV control board are connected via USB cable(s).

8.6.1 NV reject mode setting

Through the dropdown box to the right of “Selection” box, the operator may select whether to enable
NV reject or disable NV module. The operator may also select NV authentication level through the
dropdown box to the right of the “Level” box, for which higher level requires stricter NV
authentication.
After such selection, the operator may click “Set1” button to set NV reject mode. He or she may click
“Get4” to obtain actual setting(s) of such NV reject mode. Before NV reject mode setting, the operator
must obtain the permission for cash dispensing (refer to previous contents for details). It is
recommended that the operator first gets actual NV mode setting and then determines whether such
setting needs to be changed.
8.6.2 NV reject setting
The operator may set and get the maximum number allowed for NV OCR reject, NV hardware reject
and TY reject through the function of “Set NV reject parameter”. Generally, the operator does not need
to set the items concerned.

Confidential material of GRG, No disclosure to unauthorized party 21-27

8.6.3 Getting NV version
The operator may click “Get NV version” button to obtain detailed information of NV hardware and
