Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to explain more reason why my performance is under satisfactory
in these two semester. Given that I have present the Faculty meeting to explain my
reason on it mostly, I still want to give more elaboration in order to make sure all
presentative from different faculty understand my case and kindly give me this every
last chance.
There are two main problems that I encountered resulting my unsatisfactory
performance, the one is my family issue, the another one is my poor time
management. I have mentioned that my main problem is my family issue in
semester2 when I was year 1. I was very regret that I got influenced so much due to
this issue. I was almost mentally break down at that period, while I didn’t look for
help at that time. After my first faculty meeting, I understood that I can’t be like this
anymore and I adjusted my emotion and try my best to pull my self out of the
shadow. I also mentioned that I plan to take 6 courses in my semester 1 when I was
year2, but I finally took 5 courses due to the disapproval of an elective course and I
found it after the add-drop period.
When I was year 2, I fail one of my courses due to my pool time management. I
did find some part time job which is private tutor for kids and mostly took my 2-3
hours for each and I joined the lacrosse team in HK Lacrosse Association, such that I
need to join the practice three times a week. That is the reason why my time
schedule was so tight that I didn’t have enough time to do my revision and prepare
for my tutorial. The reason why I found part time job was to reduce the burden of my
family. I always can see their pressure in financial and I don’t want them to bear all of
it. Also, I thought 2-3 hours each job won’t affect me in the first place. The another is
my adherence in lacrosse team. In fact, I was quite interested in this sport and don’t
want to give up easily. That results the unbalance between my job and daily life. I
was overestimate my ability to balance my work and life and underestimate the time
consuming of these activities. Besides, the strategy in choosing elective is not wise
enough. As I want to pursuit and explore more in math, I choose Math 1013 when
semester1 in Year 2 while I have fulfilled the requirement in math already and I failed
in this course finally.
After considering the suggestion from the board of my faculty committee and
academic advisor, I will have wiser strategy in choosing course instead of continuing
the course that I am not good at and I have quitted my jobs and the lacrosse team as
well. Therefore, I can improve my GPA through some course that I am good at and
gain more time to focus on my study.
Lastly, the referring letter from my warden did mention that I took up a post in
hall, but actually this not affected me too much as my workload in hall was not heavy
as other cabinet members will cover my job. They knew my tough situation and all
are willing to help me. Instead, it is beneficial for me to live in hall as I live far away
campus.
In addition, I did make progress in my semester 1 in my Year2. Actually, in the
progress of my studying, I found the courses not difficult and I can handle it actually.
It is just my poor time management and wrong strategy on choosing courses results
my poor performance in academic. I believed that I can make great progress in this
semester and I will put my 100% effort on studying. I promise that I won’t make that
same mistake again and please kindly give me one and the last chance for me to
improve my grade and performance.
