FIVE-DAY MID-YEAR BREAK IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS (INSET)


NARRATIVE REPORT

“Success is not an accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of
what you are doing or learning to do.” Following the amendment of the school calendar and activities for School Year
2023-2024 by virtue of DM-OUHROD-20240037, the Department of Education mandated the field conduct INSET
on January 24-46 & 29-30, 2024. The training program was spearheaded by our School Head Dr. Leziel B. Santos and
Mrs. Irene F. Monin, LAC Coordinator.
The INSET was started an opening program begun by singing of Philippine National Anthem and followed by
a prayer. Dr. Leziel B. Santos officially started the program by addressing the whole teachers in her opening remarks.
She expressed her gratitude for all the efforts of the teachers who participated in the INSET.
Mrs. Irene F. Monin introduced the facilitators for the first day event. Dr. Leziel B. Santos discussed the
overview of Mid-Year Review Form (MRF). Open forum was done immediately. A one hour lunch break given to the
participants. At 1:00-3:00, Mrs. Irene F. Monin facilitated the workshop on MRF and at 3:30pm participants had the
opportunity to present their output.
On the second day session, MOL was led by Mrs. Irene F. Monin followed by the lectures on National
Reading Camp by Mrs. Gina R. Morales and National Mathematics Camp by Mrs. Irene T. Narisma. In the afternoon,
discussed about National Learning Camp. She explained the purposes, features and the phase of implementation and
the desired outcomes of the said program. The context of this topic and its alignment with DepEd Order No. 13, s.
2018 and DepEd Order No. 25, s. 2022 were emphasized.
On the third day, a new set of learning has uncovered. Topics on the implementation of Catch-up Fridays (DO
No. 1, s. 2024) was discussed by Mrs. Irene F. Monin. She clearly discussed the importance of Catch-up Fridays
which is to address the low proficiency of learners in reading based on assessment and this is also to address the gaps
and reinforce foundational, social and relevant skills. In the afternoon, teachers were group according to their grade
level then participants the workshop on contextualized instructional materials making for Catch-up Fridays. Their
outputs were presented to the group afterwards.
On the fourth day, learning continues. Mrs. Bernardita F. Arciso, School ELLN Coordinator was the
facilitator talked about the importance of early childhood development and the significant role of
language, literacy, and numeracy skills in a child's overall growth. She delivered a comprehensive presentation
that highlighted the research and evidence behind the significance of early language, literacy, and numeracy
development. She discussed the impact of these foundational skills on academic achievement, cognitive
development, and future success. Participants actively participated by sharing their own experiences and
suggestions for fostering language development. The session was smoothly ended because of the active participation
and cooperation of the teachers.
On the fifth day, 5-Day Mid-Year INSET, a weeklong INSET filled with knowledge has reached its final day.
It started with a prayer, the MOL and session proper. Mrs. Arlyn D. Monteroso , School Child Friendly Coordinator
provided an overview of the DepEd Child Protection Policy (DO No. 40, s. 2012), emphasizing its importance in
ensuring the safety and well-being of children within the school vicinities. She focused on clarifying the roles and
responsibilities of teachers, pupils, parents as well as stakeholders in implementing the child protection policy
effectively. The emphasized the importance of their collaboration in addressing child protection concerns and
creating a supportive network for children. She ended her discussion on the overview of relevant laws, regulations,
and ethical considerations related to child protection, ensuring that all attendees understood their legal obligations.
Another facilitator, was Mrs. Mary Joy M. Cartagena, her topic was an overview of disaster risk, highlighting various
types of hazards that our region may face, including natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and storms, as well
as human-induced hazards. She added that teachers were encouraged to establish clear channels of communication
with relevant authorities, community partners, and parents to facilitate coordinated responses to emergencies. Lastly,
closing program and awarding of certificates followed, Mrs. Irene F. Monin, facilitated the closing program.
