Book report of Macbeth

Sihoo Kim

Fair is foul and foul is fair

I read Macbeth, Shakespeare's four great tragedies. the story is about a

man named Macbeth who killed the king to get power. he received a
prophecy from witches that he will be the king of Scotland then he had
the ambition to become king. So he killed the king, and started killing
other people. in the end, the true hero Macduff kills Macbeth.

In the first scene, some prophecies that Macbeth received included the
words, 'fair is foul and foul is fair', and I think these words are the main
key words of whole Macbeth.

The fair, Macbeth was described as the good character in the beginning
of the book. but he become The foul because of his dark ambition. he
had to kill other people even he did not want to kill, because he was in
anxiety that may someone knows he killed the king. Through this
process, he becomes a greater foul, and at the end of the book, he
made himself as a complete villain. I think the goal of life and ambition
are alike to confuse them. Because that's what both of them ultimately
we want. So, many people often make their dark ambitions their life
mission without a realization of being bad. Macbeth shows that how the
trick of ambition makes terrible consequence. he made many tragedies
because he didn't recognize that his goal that to be the king of Scotland
turned into ambition to sustain his power. While looking at the character
Macbeth, I realized that my life's goals could turn into ambition at any
time, and dark ambition can lead me to destruction.

The character Macbeth is great example who shows fair turning into foul,
while his wife, Lady macbeth shows that foul also can be fair. She was
also ambitious as his husband macbeth was. She made the plan to
murder king, and she even prayed to the god so that she suppresses her
sympathy and warm mind. These make us to think she is the foul
character. But she has gone crazy because of her great guilty,
consiquently killed herself. I think her guilt means her fairness. Guilt is
directly related to fairness because guilt makes us feel that we did
something wrong and gives us the chance to correct that mistake.

While reading the book Macbeth, I thought and felt a lot about the
words “fair is foul and foul is fair” and about ambition and guilt. Also, I
would like to read more about Shakespeare's four great tragedies.
