Q37 Case Study:- 4 × 3 = 12
Force is an external effort in the form of pushing, pulling, compressing,
stretching etc. which may move a body at rest or stop a moving body or
change the speed of a moving body or change the direction of motion of
a body or change the shape and size of a body. These forces can be
divided into two types : Balanced forces and unbalanced forces. When
the resultant of all the forces acting on a body is zero, the forces are
called Balanced forces. If the resultant of all the forces acting on a body
is not zero, the forces are called unbalanced forces. Note that balanced
forces cannot change the state of rest or state of uniform motion or the
direction of motion of the body. However, the balanced forces can
change the shape and size of the body.
An unbalanced force is needed to move a body from the state of rest. But
no such force is required to maintain uniform motion of the body. An
unbalanced force is required to change the speed of the body and also to
change the direction of motion of the body.
1 When the resultant of all the forces acting on a body is zero? What are
the forces called?
2 Which force is required to move a body from state of rest?
6
3 What are the functions of balanced forces?
4 What are the functions of an unbalanced force?
Q38 Case Study 2:- 4 × 3 = 12
These are rod-shaped cells that provide energy to the cell organelle when
required, in the form of ATP. These organelles are strange as they have
their own DNA and ribosomes. Due to this reason, they are also able to
make their own protein.

(a) Ribosomes (b) Golgi bodies
(c) Lysosomes (d) Mitochondria
2 What is the other name given to this cell organelle?
(a) Powerhouse of the cell (b) Colour pigment
(c) Suicide bags of the cell (d) Protein factory of the cell
3 What is the full form of ATP?
(a) Alkaline Diphosphate (b) Adenosine Trisphosphate
(c) Adenosine Diphosphate (d) Adenosine Triphosphate
4 Name another cell organelle that has its own DNA.
(a) Ribosomes (b) Plastid
(c) Lysosomes (d) Golgo bodies
Q39 Case Study 3:- 4 × 3 = 12
Gases are highly compressible as compared to solids and liquids. The
liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder that we get in our home for
cooking or the oxygen supplied to hospitals in cylinders is compressed
gas. Compressed natural gas (CNG) is used as fuel these days in
vehicles. The liquid takes up the shape of the container in which they are
7
kept. Liquids flow and change shape, so they are not rigid but can be
called fluid. Solids and liquids can diffuse into liquids. The aquatic
animals can breathe underwater. The rate of diffusion of liquids is
greater than solid.
1 Why Compressed natural gas (CNG) is used as fuel these days in
vehicles?
(a) Due to its high compressibility
(b) Large volumes of a gas can be compressed into a small cylinder
(c) Transported easily
(d) All of these
2 Liquids have no fixed ______ but have a fixed ______.
(a) Shape, Volume (b) Volume, Shape
(c) Shape, Size (d) Size, Shape
3 The aquatic animals can breathe underwater due to
(a) The presence of dissolved carbon dioxide in water
(b) The presence of dissolved oxygen in the water
(c) The presence of dissolved Nitrogen in the water
(d) All of these
4 The rate of diffusion of liquids is greater than solid due to
(a) Liquid particles move freely
(b) Liquid have greater space between each other
(c) Both (a) and (b)
(d) None of these
