Dagon

5/11/23 5:59 PM

Dagon
Demon Prince of Darkened Depths
"Drown in the deep, for you will never rise from it"

Description: Dagon appears as a massive conglomeration of shark, eel, and octopus. The bulk of his
body made up of long hooked tentacles covered in thick rubbery flesh punctuated with a myriad of red
unblinking eyes, armored with fish scales one would think are made of adamantine. He has two long arms
adorned with claws sharper than most magical weapons, and a large maw filled with thousands of teeth
just as sharp. Dagon is one of the fiercest beings that resides in the Abyss.

Profile

Personality: Secretive

Ideals: Dagon strives to unearth and horde the secrets of the multiverse and has more than enough
intelligence to do so, rivaling the likes of Asmodeus, Odin, and Vecna in cunning. He hordes knowledge
of all types, but no one knows why. The goals of Father Dagon are just as mysterious as his origins.

Bonds: Like the Great Old Ones and his Fellow Demon Lords, Dagon has a massive cult following,
dwarfing the cults of the other great old ones while competing with many of the most well known demon
lords and princes. But unlike his "sibling" great old ones, Dagon does have some regard for his cultists. He
will often make devout followers Voices of Dagon, or transform loyal souls into Wastrilith's once they
reach the abyss.

Flaws: The covetous nature of Dagon can often lead to him undermining himself, he has to constantly
weigh the loyalty of a follower against the value of knowledge he could impart upon them and often
struggles to grant his cult true power as Dagon believes they may spread this knowledge, lessening its
worth and power. Dagon is also feared among many of his fellow demon lords, only being able to number
The Demogorgon among his allies in the abyss, which is still quite the ally to have.

Legend: Dagon is ancient beyond measure, he existed in the primordial oceans of the proto-abyss that
existed before the Tanar'ri were even thought of. But even before this, Dagon had existed in a reality
wholly different from the current one he inhabits, and that reality was collapsing. Dagon numbers among
the Obyrith, ancient and alien beings of immense power from an alternate reality. The reality the obyrith
inhabited was collapsing, but Dagon had foreseen this and reacted accordingly by forcing himself into a
new one. Soon his kin followed, and those that did arrived just as the primordial beings that inhabited the
abyss were fighting each other for power. Dagon watched his kin squabble with what would become
demon princes like Baphomet and Orcus, but two of the Obyrith rose above the rest. Obox-Ob proved to
be the mightiest of his kin and was the first crowned Prince of Demons, but another obyrith found this
unsatisfactory and plotted against Obox-Ob. The Queen of Chaos had decided that she didn't like Obox-
Ob's rule and chose to make her own ruler, causing the birth of the Tanar'ri caste of demons. The first of
these creations was deemed a failure, and cast aside to fester in hatred that would soon be the undoing of
the Queen of Chaos. But, she soon created something that suited her, Miska the Wolf Spider. Dagon
witnessed first hand as Miska dove through the infinite layers of the abyss to reach the lair of Obox-Ob
and when he did, Obox-Ob didn't stand a chance and was forced to flee, crowing Miska as the second
Prince of Demons. Dagon wasn't a fan of this, he believed this granted the Queen of Chaos too much
sway in his new home plane and began to sow more hatred in that "failure" that she had cast aside all
while granting it knowledge and power, building a relationship of sorts with the soon to be Prince of
Demons. Eventually, this led to the rise of the current hierarchy of the Abyss, as Demogorgon took its
place after both Miska and the Queen of Chaos were laid low by the Wind Dukes of Aqaa. Now Dagon
lairs just beneath the layer of his "protégé", plotting all the while.

Exploration

Dagon lairs in the deepest portions of the 89th layer of Abyss, a realm that is nearly made up completely
of water known as the Shadowsea. This layer is inhabited by many dangerous aquatic flora, fauna, and
megafauna that all thrive in the environment. It is also inhabited by many malignant, demonic entities
such as the Wastrilith's and Uzollrus (detailed later in this document). This entire layer bends to the will of
the Prince of Darkened Depths, allowing him to cause the following.

Lair Actions
When Dagon is within the Shadowsea, he can choose to cause one of the following effects on initiative
count 20 (losing initiative ties) or take a mythic action if able but he cannot do both.
• Dagon causes a maelstrom to form around a creature of his choice that he is aware of within 300 feet
of him. The target must make a DC 26 Strength saving throw or become restrained until the next
initiative count 20, taking 35 (10d6) bludgeoning damage and having its oxygen supply reduced by 1
minute on failed save, or it take half as much damage and isn't restrained.
• Dagon attempts to covet the secrets of creature he can see within 120 feet. The target must make a
DC 26 saving throw based on its highest saving throw, losing the ability the cast a spell or use a class
ability of Dagon's choice until the next initiative count 20 on failed save, or taking 27 (6d8) psychic
damage on a successful saving throw.
• Dagon corrupts a portion of reality centered on a point of his choice that he can see within 300 feet
of him. Each creature within 20 feet of that point must make a DC 26 Wisdom saving throw taking
22 (4d10) force damage and be teleported to an unoccupied space of Dagon's choice that he is aware
of within 300 feet of him on failed saving throw, or take half as much damage and not be teleported
on a successful one.

Regional Effects
Dagon's otherworldly power manifests in the following ways across all of the Shadowsea.
• Dagon has complete control over the weather on this layer of the abyss, able increase or decrease any
incremental effects at will requiring no action.
• The waters of the Shadowsea bend to Dagon's will, causing a water elemental loyal to Dagon to be
conjured every hour.
• The fauna native to the Shadowsea serve Dagon unswervingly, causing any creature with a
swimming speed and an Intelligence score of 5 or lower is Charmed by Dagon and hostile to any
non-native creatures.

Allies

With as secretive as Dagon is, he does still manage to have some allies, many of which are servile lesser
beings but they're allies nonetheless. First and most numerous among these allies are the native aquatic life
in the Shadowsea, from Megalodon's to giant crabs any bestial creature is bent to the will of Father
Dagon. The next servile allies Dagon possesses are the Wastriliths that call the Shadowsea their home, it is
unknown whether Dagon had a hand in the creation of these wretched beings, but they serve him as if he
did. The final servile creature that allies with Dagon are the Uzollrus, a servitor species of Obyrith that
followed the obyrith lords to their new reality. Finally, Dagon's most notable ally is none other than
Demogorgon, the Prince of Demons. Dagon taught the prince of Demons nearly everything it knows
about the arcane and granted even deeper knowledge, granting Demogorgon further power. So if Dagon is
ever in dire need of assistance, it is likely that the prince of demons would answer a call for aid which
would spell ruin for almost anything assailing the Prince of Darkened Depths. The Uzollru Epic creature
is detailed below.

Mythic Effects
When Dagon is a mythic creature, he produces the following effects.

Secrets of the Drowned Deep

Dagon has horded knowledge for eons, and often puts it to use when forced into combat. Dagon can
choose to spend 3 Legendary Actions when appropriate to amplify his otherworldly magics until the end
of his turn after next. Whenever Dagon casts a spell using his Great Old One's Influence action, it gains
the following benefits.
• Its damage type is changed to Arcane unless it already deals arcane damage.
• The DC increases by 5, and its duration is doubled if it has one.
• Its range is quadrupled.
• If the target or targets are affected by Dagon's Form of Madness feature, it makes its saving throw (if
it forces one) with Epic disadvantage or Dagon makes his attack roll (if it calls for one) with Epic
advantage.

Mind Breaking Depths

When subjected to his full power, it is nearly impossible to leave an encounter with Dagon with a sound
mind. Whenever a creature succeeds on its saving throw against Dagon's Form of Madness feature, it
takes 45 (10d8) psychic damage and is only immune to it until the start of its turn after next. Additionally,
a creature that starts its turn within the area affected by Dagon's Form of Madness feature must make a
DC 32 Wisdom saving throw or be unable to concentrate on spells or magical effects so long as it is aware
of Dagon's existence.
