Installation instructions

Seat heater for driver's seats 91.5


Model 129, lefthand steering

The wiring harness set for the driver's backrest (memory) must also be ordered for vehicles without seat memory.
Part number see under C. How-to-order note.

Volume 1 "Electrical circuit diagrams Model 129" function group 05-5 contains a circuit diagram for the seat heater.

The installation instructions are subdivided into the following sections:

A. Installing heater pad in driver's seat

A. Installing heater pad in driver's seat

1 Remove driver's seat cushion and backrest
upholstery (91-055).

2 Remove cover on driver's seat cushion


(91-180).

3 Cut off and remove the two foam rubber pads on


the rubber/hair pad.

4 Coat rubber/hair pad with MB universal cement,


part number 000 989 82 71 on side areas (shaded
area).

5 Position heating pads (1) for side areas with


textile side (heat conductor) pointing up and glue to
rubber/hair pad in correct position.

6 Coat front of rubber/hair pad (shaded area) with


cement.

7 Position heating pads (2) for seat cushion on
rubber/hair mat with felt side pointing up, align and
cement on at front.

8 Connect heating pads with plugs (X).

9 Wrap plug connectors in upholstery padding and


insert into tacking channels.

10 Install seat cushion cover so that electric wire


passes through punched hole in rubber/hair pad
(arrow).

11 Install seat cushion frame; fasten wire in cushion
frame with Omega holder (3) and position through
hole to rear. Install rubber grommet (4).

12 Hook in cover all around.

13 Remove cover for seat backrest upholstery (91-


182).

14 Cut off and remove the two foam rubber pads on


the sides of the rubber/hair pad.

15 Coat rubber/hair pad with MB universal cement,


part number 000 989 82 71 on side areas (shaded
areas).

16 Position heating pads (5 and 6) for sides with
textile side (heat conductor) pointing up and cement
to rubber/hair pad in correct position.

17 Position heating pads for backrest upholstery


with felt side pointing up, align and cement onto
rubber/hair pad at top (shaded area).

18 Connect heating pads with plugs (X).

19 Wrap plug connectors with upholstery padding


and insert into tacking channels (arrows).

20 Install backrest cover; pass connection cable for
heater pad through rubber/hair mat at bottom (arrow).

B. Installing switch and harness

1 Disconnect ground cable from battery.

2 Remove covers at both door entries.

3 Remove storage compartment in center console


(68-200).

4 Remove panelling on both A pillars and carpet


halves.

5 Open lower wire channels in front footwell on left


and right.

6 Remove foot supports on left and right.

7 Install control unit on baseplate in footwell on


right using KA 50 x 18 sheet metal screws.

8 Lay auxiliary wiring harness and connect to
control unit N25/5, to special equipment support point
X30 and to fuse D.

9 Recover lower wiring channels on left and right.

10 Install foot supports on left and right.

11 Install both carpet halves and panelling on


A pillars.

12 Pass the two 2-pole connectors C through the


openings in the carpeting on the left and right and clip
into holder a for safety package N32/7 in C1 and C2.

13 Install storage compartment in center console


(68-200).

14 Cut holes for switches in shift lever cover.

15 Insert switches in holes cut in cover, snap in
place and connect.

16 Install shift lever cover.

17 Connect ground cable to battery.

18 Install seats, left and right (91-100).

Note
When installing seat cushions assure that the
connectors for the seat heaters R13/1, left seat and
R13/2, right seat are connected.

19 Check function of seat heater.

C. How-to-order note

The parts required for installation are given in the microfilm group 82/15-1:

Wiring harness, driver's backrest (memory) left Part No. 129 540 11 09
Wiring harness, passenger backrest (memory) right Part No. 129 540 12 09
