I. Rationale

Project Context: The declining reading comprehension and vocabulary skills among Grade VI
students at ________________________ have become a pressing concern. This gap in
proficiency is particularly evident in Filipino language assessments, where only 12.5% of
students pass comprehension tests. Given the importance of language skills in academic success
and cultural identity, there is an urgent need for targeted interventions.

Purpose: This project aims to enhance the reading comprehension and vocabulary skills of
Grade VI students through the ____________________, which is specifically designed to
address their learning needs. The module is aligned with the Department of Education's goals of
improving literacy and ensuring educational equity.

II. Objectives

1. Primary Objective:
Improve reading comprehension and vocabulary skills among Grade VI students
at Sta. Filomena Central School.
2. Specific Objectives:
Increase the pass rate on Filipino comprehension tests from 12.5% to 50%.
Enhance students' ability to use context clues to understand unfamiliar words.
Strengthen students' skills in sequencing events and identifying cause-and-effect
relationships in texts.
Foster creative writing skills by encouraging students to apply newly acquired
vocabulary and comprehension strategies.

III. Project Components

1. Reading Passages:
A selection of culturally relevant narratives and informational texts, tailored to the
interests and experiences of the students.
2. Comprehension Exercises:
Embedded questions within each reading passage to assess understanding,
focusing on key areas like main ideas, inferences, and character motivations.
3. Vocabulary-Building Activities:
Exercises designed to expand vocabulary through the use of context clues,
synonyms, antonyms, and sentence construction.
4. Creative Writing Prompts:
Writing activities that encourage students to apply their comprehension and
vocabulary skills by crafting original stories or continuing existing ones.
5. Regular Assessments and Feedback:
Pre- and post-assessments, along with ongoing quizzes and feedback forms, to
monitor progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed.

IV. Implementation Strategy

1. Pre-Assessment:
Conduct baseline assessments using the PHIL-IRI tool to determine students'
initial reading comprehension and vocabulary levels.
2. Module Implementation:
The "Basa’t Sipat" module will be delivered during daily enrichment sessions,
integrating reading, comprehension, vocabulary, and writing activities.
3. Progress Monitoring:
Regular quizzes and teacher observations will be used to track student progress,
with adjustments made based on the assessment data.
4. Post-Assessment:
After the module implementation, post-assessments will be conducted using the
PHIL-IRI tool to measure improvements in reading comprehension and
vocabulary.
5. Feedback and Adjustment:
Analyze assessment data and student feedback to refine the instructional approach
and improve the module for future use.

V. Evaluation

1. Pre and Post-Assessments:


o Use the PHIL-IRI tool before and after the module implementation to compare
student performance and measure the module's effectiveness.
2. Student Feedback:
o Collect feedback through surveys and discussions to assess engagement and
understanding of the material.
3. Teacher Observations:
o Teachers will document student participation and performance, identifying areas
of strength and those needing further support.
4. Progress Quizzes:
o Regular quizzes throughout the project will provide ongoing insights into student
development and the effectiveness of the instructional strategies.

VI. Sustainability and Replication

Sustainability: The "Basa’t Sipat" module is designed for easy adaptation and replication in
other schools facing similar challenges. The detailed lesson plans, assessment tools, and
feedback mechanisms ensure that the project can be sustained and scaled.

Replication: The module, along with the supporting instructional materials, can be easily
replicated in other schools across the region. Training sessions and workshops can be conducted
to equip teachers with the necessary skills to implement the project effectively.
