I.
Introduction
What is Project Scoping?
It is a detailed outline of all aspects of a project such as
resources, timelines and deliverables, project’s boundaries, and
all related activities.
It outlines key stakeholders, processes, assumptions, and
constraints, as well as what the project is about, what is
included, and what isn’t.
It includes project goals, deliverables, features, functions, tasks,
deadlines, costs
II.Discussion
First Step in Project Scoping is…….
---Contact the municipality and EIA ((Environmental Impact Assessment)
Review Committee for a scope meeting.
Scope Meeting
The purpose of setting up a scope meeting is to avoid any unnecessary
extra works
It determines the required scope, acceptability, of the access
locations, methodology, and EIA’s expectations and requirements.
It determines whether TIA is required or not.
It determines the scope for the upcoming TIA.
It is where the Traffic Engineer and the reviewer discuss whether EIA
and municipality are prepared to consider a change of use in a
particular or new access.
A scope meeting with the municipality and EIA Review Committee is
helpful to discuss the following:
Proposed Development Plan
Future Highway and Municipal plans
Existing and Proposed Access Locations
Access Management
Setback Requirements
Expectations
Assumptions
NOTE:
The purpose of a scope meeting and discussions is to ensure a well-defined
scope in order to minimize extra works and time for possible revisions
requested by the reviewer. You can save time, effort, and costs and ensure a
smooth process of application.
ASSUMPTIONS ON TIA
TIA is often based on assumptions in order to minimize the number of
possible revisions.
The common assumptions are:
Traffic Growth Rate
-- Increase in traffic volume due to an increase in transport vehicles
Trip Generation
-- estimates the number and types of trips originating and terminating
in zones
Trip Assignment
--the process of computing the number of trips between one zone and
all other
Staging
-how the project is designed, arranged, and facilitated
Project Scope Management
Project scope management is a process that helps in determining and
documenting the list of all the project goals, tasks, deliverables, deadlines,
and budgets as a part of the planning process. In project management, it is
common for a big project to have modifications along the way.
Three things to do:

Controllin Closing
Planning
g
Planning
– The project is defined and the work (or processes) needed to deliver the
project is determined.
Controlling
– This involves tracking, managing and monitoring the progress of a project,
including tracking documentation, scope creep, tracking the work during
each phase, and disapproving/approving any changes along the way.
Closing
– This is the “wrap up” part of the process, which involves an audit of the
project deliverables and accessing the results of the final product against
the original defined plan.
How to define Scope of Project?
1. Use obvious language
2. Breakdown the project
3. Solidify objectives and deliverables
4. Use visual designs and diagrams for representations
5. Sign-offs
Why is Project Scoping important?
With a distinct scope, it helps everyone to stay on the same page throughout
the life cycle of the project. A well-defined scope can help to avoid common
problems like:
Requirements that constantly change
Requirements that need a rethink mid-project
The final outcome not being what the client expected
The budget overrunning
The project is way behind schedule
PROJECT SCOPE STATEMENT
--Creating an accurate document that outlines the goals, deadlines and
relationships that shape the project is called the scope statement. The
following are some must-haves in the scope statement:
Project Case
Project Description
Success Criteria
Limitations
Assumptions
III. Learning Activity
