The point of view of the author/illustrator is not very positive towards the immigrants. The author uses
words such as torrent to describe the rush of people coming in. Torrent is commonly used to describe
a large flow of water. In this sense, torrent has a negative connotation, revealing the authors true point
of view towards the emigrants.
2. According to the article, what was once one push factor and one pull factor for Irish migration to the U.S.?
Most of the migration was caused by the great famine in Ireland. This famine encouraged many
people to emigrate to the U.S.
