65 gr of the yarn, so if you'll use
YarnArt Jeans take two balls.

These materials are only a list of my

recommendations to help you create the toy
like mine. You can use any type/size of the
yarn and the hook, but you must understand it
will affect the toy's final look.

factors to define how much yarn you need
1. The first and the most obvious factor is a crochet hook size. If you use the
yarn mentioned in the materials list and a crochet hook size other than
recommended one, it will affect the amount of yarn necessary for your project.
If you choose a larger crochet hook, then you will need more yarn and if you go
for a smaller crochet hook - then you will need less yarn than it is specified in
the materials list.

2. The second factor - your typical tension when crocheting. The gauge and
tension is going to make a difference with the amount of used yarn because you
get more or less space between stitches. The tighter your stitches are, the less
yarn you need.

3. The third and very important condition - your stitches shape: V-shape, X-
shape/semi-X. The stitch shape depends on what crochet technique you use -
yarn over or yarn under the hook.

If you wrap the thread, placing the hook underneath the yarn strand (Yarn
Under - circular movement of the hook from the right to the left) - this makes
V-shaped stitch, if you put the hook over the yarn strand (Yarn Over - circular
movement from the right to the left) - this makes X-shaped stitches, and if you
make yarn under then yarn over, this technique gives us semi-X stitches. You
will need much more yarn for the fabric made in Yarn Over technique compared
with the amount needed for Yarn Under technique.

Why did I specify the yarn density in the materials list? If you don't have the
same brand that I recommend, you should use the yarn weight as substitution
with any risk of miscalculation for the toy and clothes sizes.

instructions
st = stitch inc = increase (with the
MR = magic ring same type of stitches which
ch/tch = chain/turning chain we use in rnd)
sl st = slip stitch BLO = crochet into back
sc = single crochet loops only
hdc = half double crochet FLO = crochet into front
de = double crochet loops only
t r = treble crochet CL = cluster stitch (4 de
dee = decrease (with the joined at the top)
same type of stitches which shift stitch - extra regular
we use in rnd) stitch

The number in brackets at the end of every round means a total number of
stitches in the round,
(... ) * n - means that you should repeat the combination of stitches n times.

In th is pattern we use US terminology.

Choose the correct hook size which is appropriate for the yarn you are going to
use. Your choice can be different from mine, but please pay attention to the
fact, that the size of the toy and the clothes will be different when you use other
yarn and another hook size.

Use a stitch marker for your convenience and rounds counting.

The toy is crocheted in semi-X stitches. Shift stitches are calculated precisely
for this technique. If you crochet the stitches with Yarn Overs, then You will
need to determine the symmetry of the pieces and the number of shift stitches
and their location by yourself.

Stuff all the pieces as you go, tight (unless otherwise stated), gradually adding
small portions of stuffing and forming necessary shapes of pieces.

About yarn change. I recommend to change color in the last stitch of a round,
before you start the round with a new color. Work this last stitch with thread of
a new color in the following way: pull up a loop with the yarn you're working
with and then finish with yarn of new color.

About decreases. I make invisible decreases - work in FLO, but it's easier to
make classic decreases in some stitches - in both loops.

The doll is 25 cm/9.8 inches tall in case of using the materials listed and
crocheting in semi-X stitch.

how to make an
invisible edge
Here I wanna show you how I end the crocheting in the rounds by making
invisible edge.

1. Insert the needle in stitch 2 stitches before your last one. Pull it out.
2. Insert the need I e between front and back I oops of the stitch before your
last one. Pull it out.
3. Make sure the thread is tight enough. That is all.

Use a thread of color and hook 2.5

2mm).

Make 2 ch after the end of each turning

row. Start with a chain of 42 ch.

18. (13 hdc, dee), (14 hdc, dec)*3, 13 hdc
(72)
19. In this round w e should join two pieces
together by crocheting through first 4
stitches and last 4 stitches together, total
in rnd w e must crochet 68 hdc.

You can check how the jumpsuit will fit your

Flip any time you want.

20. From this place work in rounds: (15 hdc, dec)*4 (64), put the marker.
21-22. 64 hdc (64), 2 rnds

11
Flipper The Frogs Hunter

Next we need to separate our work into two

trousers by 32 stitches each and put the
marker in the middle. Work with 1st (right)
leg. Crochet till the place of the marker if
you need to.

23. 32 hdc (32)

24-29. 32 hdc (32), 6 rnds

After you finish 1st leg, attach the thread to

the 2nd one, leaving a long tail. Make 2 ch
and repeat, like you did it for the 1st leg.

Please take to attention, depending of place where you'll start the leg quantity of rounds
can be different. Make sure both legs have the same length.

12
Flipper The Frogs Hunter

After you finish crocheting the 2nd leg you

may find a little hole between the legs. Sew
it with the free tail of thread of yellow color.

Now we need to crochet the sleeves.

Attach the thread of the yellow color to the
place for the sleeve and make 24 hdc: 10
hdc along the bottom part of the sleeve, 1
hdc on the side part, 12 hdc along the
upward part of the sleeve and 1 hdc on the
other side part.

Make 2 more rounds with 24 hdc and repeat

with the 2nd sleeve.

Next what we do is making the hood. Attach the thread of yellow color to the 1st
row, don't forget about 2 ch in the end of each row:
1.(4 hdc, inc)*8 (48)

13
Flipper The Frogs Hunter
2. 48 hdc (48)
3. (5 hdc, inc)*8 (56)
4-24. 56 hdc (56), 21 rows
25. 56 hdc (56), don't do here 2 ch in the
end of the row and don't cut the thread.

Fold the hood in half and here you have two

ways: crochet along its edge - 25th row,
through both part 28 sc or you can sew both
sides of the hood with the needle. Fasten
off. I prefer the sewing. Looks more neat.

All that is left is to crochet along the edge

of the jumpsuite with sc. The best place for
attaching the thread is the inner part of the
jumpsuit where w e have joined two parts in
the circle in rnd 18.

14
Flipper The Frogs Hunter

We start from that place and go on to the hood and finish on the bottom of the
opposite side of the jumpsuit. The jumsuit is ready, but it needs a couple of eyes
and a tongue.

The eyes includes two parts: a white one

and a yellow one.

PART 1
make 2, with the hook 2 mm and white color

in MR.
9. (2 SC, dec)*6 (18)
10. (sc, dec)*6 (12), stuff it
11. 6 dee (6), close the hole, pulling the
thread through the hole and fasten off.

PART 2

5-9. 24 sc (24), 5 rnds, leave a long tail for
sewing.
15
Flipper The Frogs Hunter

Insert the part 1 of the eye into the part 2.

Now you can make a couple of stitches with free tail of 11 yarn to conect
two parts together or make it later, when we will sew the eyes to the hood.

Attach the thread of orange color #31 to

uncrocheted stitch (before "tongue" of
the boot) in the left part of the boot.

Continue to crochet in turning rows:

1-4. 22 sc (22), ch, turn the work

5. 22 sc (22). fasten off.

Last we need to do with the boots - insert

the laces.

Make a chain about 10 cm lengh (I have

84 ch) from the thread of white color and
lace the boot up. You can choose any type
of lacing you prefer.

Insert the chain into the MR of the hand/leg

like on picture. Close the MR and hide the
threads tail from MR and one end of the
chain into the arm/leg.

Now crochet through the both edges of the

arm/leg with sc, fasten off.

21
Flipper The Frogs Hunter

You should have 2 arms and 2 legs with free

ends of the chain of the top. That ends we
will use for sewing.

Now we need to sew all parts together: the

cheeks and the eyes to the head, the head to
the body and the legs/arms to the body too.

Well done!

Your little froggy is complete and ready to

have fun with the flip on Easter.
