Name: Mikylla Clarrise B. Lobaton Date: 11/09/21

Section: STEM 12- Einstein

Direction: Answer the following questions correctly and write it on a separate sheet of paper.

1. Convert the following numbers into scientific notation:

a. 27000000 = 2.7 x 107
b. 0.00000712 = 7.12 x 10-6
c. 821 = 8.21 x 102
d. 0.000101 = 1.01 x 10-4
e. 81250000000 = 8.125 x 1010

2. When a golf ball is put in a measuring cylinder of water, the water level rises by 30 cm3 when the ball
is completely submerged. If the ball weighs 33 g in the air, find its density.
Given: Asked:
Volume= 30 cm3 Density=?
Mass= 33 g
Solution:
𝑀𝑎𝑠𝑠
Density=
𝑉𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑒
33
=
30
= 1.1 g/cm3

3. Find the component vectors (x, y) of the following:

a. 2.0 m, Ꝋ = 10 ‫﮿‬
Vx=V cos θ
= 2.0 cos 10‫﮿‬
= 1.97 Î
Vy=V sin θ
= 2.0 sin 10‫﮿‬
= 0.35 ĵ

b. 7.0 m, Ꝋ = 25 ‫﮿‬
Vx=V cos θ
= 7.0 cos 25‫﮿‬
= 6.34 Î
Vy=V sin θ
= 7.0 sin 25‫﮿‬
= 2.96 ĵ
c. 4.0 m, Ꝋ = 100 ‫﮿‬
Vx=V cos θ
= 4.0 cos 100‫﮿‬
= -0.69 Î
Vy=V sin θ
= 4.0 sin 100‫﮿‬
= 3.94 ĵ

d. 5.0 m, Ꝋ = 175 ‫﮿‬

Vx=V cos θ
= 5.0 cos 175‫﮿‬
= -4.98 Î
Vy=V sin θ
= 5.0 sin 175‫﮿‬
= 0.44 ĵ

4. In the figure, an 800 kg safe full of gold bars Is sliding down a 2.5 m ramp that meets the horizontal at
an angle of 21 ‫﮿‬. The kinetic coefficient of friction is 0.12. What will the safe full of gold bars speed be
when it reaches the bottom of the ramp?

Given:
d (distance)= 2.5 m
a= 21 ‫﮿‬
𝜇𝑘 = 0.12
m = 800 kg
Solution:
Fnet = mg sin Ꝋ - Ff = mg sin Ꝋ - 𝜇𝑘 mg cos Ꝋ
= (800) (9.8) (sin 21 ‫( – )﮿‬0.12) (800) (9.8) (cos 21 ‫)﮿‬
= 2 809 N – 878 N = 1 931 N
W = Fnet = (1 931) (2.5) = 4 827.5 J
W = Fnet = 4 827.5 J = ½ mv2
½ (800) v2 → 4 827.5 = 400v2 → 12.07 = v2 → √12.07 = 3.47 m/s
5. A soccer ball has a mass of 0.40 kg initially it is moving to the left at 30 m/s but then it is kicked. After
the kick it is moving at 55 ‫ ﮿‬upward and to the right with speed of 40 m/s. Find the impulse of the net
force and the average net force, assuming a collision time ∆t = 0.020 s .
Given: Asked:
Mass= 0.40 kg impulse of the net force,
V1= -30 m/s (to the left) average net force
Angle= 55 ‫﮿‬
V2= 40 m/s (to the right)
∆t = 0.020 s

Solution:
Impulse of the net force
Using cos 55° = 0.574 sin 55°= 0.819, we find the ball’s velocity components before and after the kick:
V1x= -30 m/s V1y= 0
V2x= (40 m/s) (0.574) = 23 m/s V2y= (40 m/s) (0.819) = 32.8 m/s
Jx = P2x – P1x = m (v2x – v1x)
= (0.40 kg) [23 m/s – (-30 m/s)] = 21.2 kg ∙ m/s
Jy = P2y – P1y = m (v2y – v1y)
= (0.40 kg) (32.8 m/s – 0) = 13.12 kg ∙ m/s
𝐽𝑥 21.2kg ∙ m/s 𝐽𝑦 13.12 kg ∙ m/s
(Fav)x = == = 1 060 N (Fav)y = == = 656 N
∆t 0.020 s ∆t 0.020 s

Average net force

Fav = √(1060 𝑁)2 + (656 𝑁)2 = 1.2 x 103

656 𝑁
Θ = arctan = 31.75°
1 060 N
