Sensory Perception
A Descriptive Essay written by Michael Anthony Lagos

First, let's clarify what sensory perception is. The process by which a person finds,
identifies, describes, and reacts to stimuli in their surroundings is known as sensory perception.
Since every client is unique, it is important for nurses to be able to perceive things with high
sensory comprehension. Thus, how can we prevent clients who are susceptible to
overstimulation from sensory overload?

First, recognize their triggers and avoid them: Try to minimize their exposure to the
specific stimuli that often cause clients or patients to become overstimulated. Some strategies to
do this include avoiding loud noises and flashing of lights, limiting exposure to strong scents,
and reducing the amount of time spent in busy or noisy areas.

Increasing external stimulation for individuals who are susceptible to sensory deprivation
is the next step. The clients' unhappiness brought on by their disease will be lessened by having
a furnished environment with bright colors. Furthermore, opening the windows lets in natural
light and fresh air, which can elevate moods, boost energy, and facilitate better digestion for
clients. Using an interactive screen to interact with them is another option. Giving clients access
to television is one way to amuse them; nevertheless, bear in mind that prolonged use of
devices and televisions may have a harmful impact on the clients’ health.

In conclusion, as a future Centralian nurse it is my obligation to always prioritize my

patients’ needs. As caring is the central core of my service to the humanity. Among the
examples are prevention of clients who are prone to overstimulation due to sensory overload. It
is crucial for me to have excellent sensory comprehension. To prevent them, I must first identify
what causes them, such as limiting my exposure to strong smells, avoiding loud noises and
flashing lights, and so on. Increasing external stimulation is the best course of action for
individuals who suffer from sensory deprivation. This entails furnishing rooms, granting access
to televisions, and opening windows to let in fresh air and natural light.
