TRO 3062 Addendum

By Major Johannes Mohr

Publication Year 3062

Avalon Press Inc.

This Addendum to Technical Readout 3062 features the new developments from Orion Aerospace’s Research
and Development division. Most of these are based on revived 21st century Terran technology. In my endless hours
in the NAIS library stacks, I found many items that were “forgotten” over the centuries. The technology involved is
not really all that advanced, which made it possible to create these items fairly easily.

All are weapons or weapon-related systems. These items will be incorporated into our vessel designs beginning
in 3063. As mentioned in TRO 3062, none of the design specifications or schematics are stored on-site for security
reasons. Only the CNC machine code for the machines and robots is on-site. It can be erased in a matter of minutes
with the turn of a key, rendering the machinery inert.

Again, these products are meant to give the Federated Commonwealth and it’s allies a technological advantage
over their enemies, real or potential.

( AFFC Reserve )
TargeTrak II TTS
This “plug-in” module installs between the standard targeting and tracking systems and the HUD of a ‘mech or
aerospace fighter. It provides a 2-5 zoom factor to the image, enabling more accurate targeting. With this system,
“called shots” are possible with no penalties to hit. Needless to say, this gives the pilot a serious advantage over his
foes.

MASS: 1 kg ( Epoxy Encapsulated )

DIMENSIONS: 10 X 10 X 6 cm
POWER REQUIREMENT: 25 Watts
ZOOM FACTOR: 2,3,4,5 ( Pilot selectable )
MODES: Visible light, Infrared
COST: 10,000
AVAILABLE: 3063
USE: Battlemechs, Aerospace Fighters
DuoTrak FCS
This device lets a dropship or jumpship take advantage of it’s overlapping weapon arcs to simultaneously fire
on two targets at the same time. The gunner selects two targets on the radar display, and assigns weapon bays to
each. It is essentially a second radar unit, linked to the fire control system on the vessel. This allows the gunner to at
least deter two attackers at the same time. It requires no additional gunnery skills, and imposes no penalties to hit.

MASS: 1 Ton
DIMENSIONS: 5 m Hemisphere, hull mounted
POWER REQUIREMENTS: 1,000 watts
RANGE: Same as original radar system
USE: Dropships, Jumpships
COST: 200,000
Arrow V Missile
This upgraded version of the Arrow IV artillery missile
makes use of a second type of plastique explosive called
Pentaglycerine. ( Source: Mechwarrior 2nd Edition,
Mechwarrior Companion book ). It is five times as potent as
C-8, has no “splash”, but is far more dangerous to use. Even a
fall from a significant height can set it off. Thus, it cannot be
used in a ballistic weapon due to the sudden acceleration
profile. However, missiles have a much shallower acceleration
profile. As a precaution, the warhead is cushioned.

This gives the Arrow V a damage potential of 100 points,

five times that of the standard Arrow IV. All of the damage is
confined to the impact hex, causing no damage in adjacent
hexes. There are two versions: Laser Guided ( requires a Laser
TAG unit to “paint” the target ) or Imaging Infrared ( locks on
to heat signature and shape of target ). Note that an Anti-
Missile System (AMS) can “shoot it down”.

TYPE: Long Range Capitol Missile

DIMENSIONS: 4m Long, 0.25m Diameter ( with fins )
MASS: 400 lb ( 182 kg )
HEAT: 15
WARHEAD: 20 kg Pentaglycerine, impact detonator
RANGE: 10 km
VELOCITY: Mach 1.5
LAUNCH PLATFORM: Vehicles, Dropships, Aerospace Fighters,
Jumpships
DAMAGE:100 ( Small Scale ) 10 ( Capitol Scale )
GUDANCE: Laser Homing or Imaging Infrared
COST : Launcher ( As Arrow IV ) 450,000
Laser Guided 15,000 / Ton ( 5 )
Imaging Infrared 20,000 / Ton ( 5 ) Image source: Wikipedia. USA built AGM-65 Maverick Missile,
specifically Lockheed-Martin. 20th century tech.
AGM-114 Hellfire Missile
This missile weapon is based on 20th century Terran
technology. It weighs 100 lb ( 45.5 kg ), and also uses a
Pentaglycerine warhead. It is much more suitable for use on
aerospace fighters and aircraft due to it’s lower mass. While it
causes less damage than the Arrow V, more of them can be
carried.

The warhead is 9 kg of Pentaglycerine, for a damage

potential of 45 ( small scale ), 5 ( capitol scale ). The warhead
has an impact detonator. The launcher is little more than a rail,
weighing 200 lb. There are two versions: Laser Homing ( which
requires a Laser TAG unit to “paint” the target ) or Imaging
Infrared ( locks onto heat signature and shape of target ). The
range is 10 km, the same as the Arrow V. Again, note that an
Anti-Missile System (AMS) can shoot it down.

TYPE: Long Range Missile

DIMENSIONS: 1.6 m long, 18 cm diameter ( including fins )
MASS: 100 lb ( 45 kg )
HEAT: 5
RANGE: 10 km
VELOCITY: Mach 1.5
WARHEAD: 9 kg Pentaglycerine, impact detonator
DAMAGE: 45 ( small scale ) 5 ( capitol scale )
LAUNCH PLATFORM: Mechs, vehicles, aerospace fighters, fixed
mounts, aircraft, dropships, jumpships
COST: Launcher 2,500
Laser Guided 120,000 / Ton ( 20 )
Imaging IR 125,000 / Ton ( 20 )

LRM-X / SRM-X Munitions
These munitions use Pentaglycerine warheads, giving an LRM a damage of 5, a SRM a damage of 10. The cost,
however, is double the book price. Worth it for the serious mechwarrior. All other specifications remain the same -
rounds per ton, range, etc.
Hawkeye FCS
Similar in most respects to the Artemis IV Fire Control System, the Hawkeye adds +3 to the missile hits roll,
not the usual +2. It can also be “slaved” to two missile racks of the same type. It weighs 0.5 tons, but costs 150,000
C-Bills. It will work with Artemis capable munitions. It occupies one critical slot, the same as the Artemis IV.
Black Knight EWS
Similar to the Guardian ECM Suite, the Black Knight goes beyond it’s capability. The range is increased from six
hexes to nine, eliminating Line of Sight ( LOS ). It also jams radar and communications frequencies. Best of all, it
only weighs 0.5 tons, and occupies one critical slot. It costs 225,000 C Bills. Again, worth it for the serious
Mechwarrior.

The airborne version, an under-wing pod, weighs 250 lb, and has a range of 0.2 km. It costs 275,000
Laser TAG Units
Necessary for laser-guided munitions, these come in
two types: man-portable and under-wing pods. The laser is
infrared, not visible. The man-portable version has a range
of 12 hexes ( 360 m ), the airborne version a range of 10
km. The man-portable version uses a satchel battery as the
power source, the airborne version the fighter’s power
system.

MAN PORTABLE
RANGE: 360 m ( 12 Hexes )
MASS: 10 kg ( including battery )
COST: 15,000

AIRBORNE
RANGE: 10 km
MASS: 250 lb ( 114 kg )
COST: 300,000
Laser Cannon
The first new energy weapon to be developed in centuries, the Laser Cannon more closely resembles a pulse
laser. Based on the powerful Blazer rifle ( CBT:RPG pg 153 ) it uses two stacked large laser tubes in a common
cooling jacket, with a common collimating lens, power supply, control circuit, and housing. Using Carbonax ©
materials, the mass was held down to 7.5 tons. It generates 16 heat, 15 damage, to a maximum range of 25 hexes.

Instead of firing a steady beam, it fires a single burst of intense coherent light. This is what keeps the heat
down. With nearly twice the damage potential of an ER Large Laser, and greater range, this weapon will be used in
our jumpships and dropships. It boasts 50 % more damage than an ER PPC, but only weighs 0.5 tons more. My hat’s
off to the R & D folks on this one.

TYPE: Pulse Energy Weapon

MASS: 7.5 Tons
HEAT: 16
DAMAGE: 15 ( Small scale ) 2 ( Capitol scale )
RANGE: 8 / 17 / 25
MIN RANGE: 5
COST: 375,000
