CHROMOTHERAPY
INTRODUCTION
• Chromotherapy is a method of
treatment that uses the visible
spectrum (colours) of electromagnetic
radiation to treat diseases.
• Light is energy and the phenomenon
of colour is a product of the
interaction of energy and matter.
• A specific wavelength, a certain
frequency and a particular amount of
energy in that wave have been
denominated as a distinct colour.
Electromagnetic Spectrum
consisting of visible spectrum
• Human eye → 380-780 nm (Visible
spectrum)
• This visible spectrum consists of
numerous electromagnetic frequencies
such as red, orange, green, blue etc….
HISTORY
• Avicenna (AD 980) described the properties of
colours and was the first to tell that wrong colour
given would have no result in specific disease.
• Pleasonton used CT for different experiments and
published his book; it lacked scientific proof though.
• Babbit was a pioneer of modern CT; was well aware
of the techniques and methodologies used in
chromotherapy.
• Ghadiali (1933) discovered the scientific principles
that explain why and how different colour rays have
various therapeutic effects on the body.
BASIC THEME OF CHROMOTHERAPY
• According to the doctrine of
Chromotherapy → The human body is
basically composed of colours.
• Each of our organs and energy centres
vibrates and harmonizes with the
frequencies of these colours.
• When these vibrations fall away from
their normal track → body is diseased/not
functioning properly…
• Aim of Chromotherapy:
The vibratory rates present in
chromotherapy are such that they
balance the diseased energy pattern
found in the body.
For in every organ there is an
energetic level at which the organ
functions best.
Any departure from that vibratory
rate results in pathology, whereas
restoring the appropriate energy
levels to the physical organs results
in a healed body.

PHYSIOLOGY OF CHROMOTHERAPY
• Warm colours increases:
Muscle tone
Blood pressure in hypertensive
individuals
Respiratory movements
Frequency of eye blinks
Cortical activation
Palmar conductance
• Cooler colours :
o Acts as a relaxant and tranquilizer for anxious
individuals
o Lowering blood pressure
o Providing relief from tension
o Alleviating of muscle spasms
o Reducing eye blink frequency

effective in treating neonatal jaundice.
