DINNERWARE
Dinner plate - 10 to 12, main dish
Fish plate - 8 to 9, fish shaped
Salad plate - 8 to 10, individual portion of salad
Bread and butter plate - 6, bread and butter for breakfast/dinner
Cup and saucer - hot bev, saucer is underliner for cup
Platters - 8 to 10, oval shaped
Soup plate - 9, curved shape for rim, not flat but deep
Soup bowl - 6, has an underliner ( platito )
GLASSWARE
Stem - handling, round base of a glass
footed - with stem
unfooted - without stem
Collins glass - taller but narrower, same volume as highball
Highball glass - short than collins, taller than oldfashioned
Shot glass - measuring or drinking liquor
Old fashioned glass - for branding, on the rocks (w/ ice)
Flute glass - champagne flute
Goblet- water Chalice - priest
Cocktail glass - cocktail
Red wine glass - red wine, wider bowl
White wine glass - narrower
Tulip glass - flower-like mouth/bowl
Champagne flutes long stem, very narrow bowl
FLATWARE
PRONGS - spikes in forks, helps hold food
Dinner fork - 4 prongs
Salad/Dessert fork - 4 prongs, shorter/broader than dinner
Pickle fork - 2 prongs, very small
Oyster fork - 3 prongs, small
Serving fork - 4 prongs, large
Serving spoon - large spoon, deeper bowl
Dinner spoon - oval bowl
Soup spoon - round bowl
Sugar spoon - small teaspoon, spreading bowl
Iced teaspoon - long handle, used for tall glass
Soup ladle - big round bowl, long handle
Pie server - short handle spatula, leaf shaped, serving pastries
Gravy ladle - small bowl, long handle, serving sauce
Dessert spoon - midway between tsp and tbsp
SERRATED - knives with spikes on one side
Dinner knife - straight/serrated
Steak knife - small table knife, spatula blade
Salad knife - hard nylon plastic, cutting fresh vegs, prevents browning of veg.
Butter knife - individual butter server, small broad server
HOLLOWWARE
coffee pot - tea service, tall and slender, handle lid spout
tea pot - serve tea
sugar bowl - store sugar
Pitcher - serve beverage
waiter tray - carries largest, heaviest piece of tea set
LINENS
Table cloth - covers table
runner - runs over table, long and narrow, arranges table app.
Silent cloth - or overlay, minimizes noise
Table napkin - protection for table cloth, prevents spoiling
